“What have I done?” Daehyunstared down at his hand, and Yul stood next to him on the empty street. “How could I have agreed to this?”

“She would have gone in, with or without your permission,” Yul whispered, her concerned stare on him. “Better that she knows we are here for her. It will give her courage.”

Daehyun could not move. Horror and despair tunneled through his chest. “I cannot bear the thought—” His voice wavered, and as he struggled to regain his composure, he whispered, “I fear for her safety.”

“She is a capable young woman; do not forget that,” Yul pressed. “And if you wish to reunite with her, then there is only one thing you must do, daegam.”

He finally looked up at the innkeeper, his lips pale and his face drawn.

“You must change the heavens. So go, daegam. Go and move the heavens for her.”
