Amethyst Storms (Primordial Protectors #1)
1. Prologue
Prologue
In the beginning, there was no man, only beasts roamed the Earth—dragons being the dominant species. They lived in clans and ruled their lands with heavy claws. Over time, accords were made and allegiances formed, strengthening their numbers in many kingdoms. Eventually, anger and greed consumed them and those who refused to choose a side met an untimely demise.
As war ravaged Denarius’ lands, Griffin, leader of the clan, the chosen protectors of the sacred gems, was forced to join his troops in battle to keep safe all that he loved and held dear. Luna, Griffin’s queen, gathered their five eggs and retreated to the sanctity of their hoard, a location only she and her mate knew of. It was there she waited for his return, which never came.
The eggs trembled, feeling her fear flow through their bond. “Be still, little ones. All will be well,” Luna assured them with far more confidence than she felt. She gathered what she could and erected a nest for her young. Once satisfied, Luna curled around her eggs to cradle and soothe them as she too drifted into a much-needed slumber.
These five heirs to the throne, each the color of the precious stones they represented, were the chosen ones to guard the gems. They would harness a power within themselves, bestowed upon by their birthright, and together they would rebuild what was lost and once more bring peace to the war-ravaged world.
Ionus, the amethyst heir and oldest of Denarius’ sons’ given gift was his ability to control the storms. Caro, the emerald heir, reigned over the element of earth. Sarcastic Odem, the ruby dragon, had an annoying gift for saying and doing the wrong things at the most inopportune times, but it was he who controlled fire. Mattias, the grand sapphire son, commanded the oceans and seas for his element was water. And lastly, Quintus, the deadly venom-spewing topaz was the brother whom all should fear.
Or was he?
Together, Griffin and Luna’s sons hold the power to right the wrongs of the world and bring peace amongst species.
Goddess, help us all…
