Chapter Nine

Ionus

Dragon hearing.

Another blessing and a curse.

I heard every word of Alexander’s conversation with his Gramps and now my heart was on the fence. Was he only staying because his body forced him to or because he wanted to?

He’ll learn to love us.

Not the answer I hoped for.

He’s our mate, he has no choice.

Free will isn’t an option, Dragon, it’s a right.

Pfft.

I must teach him another reaction.

Time to face the piper.

“I, um, I didn’t have all the ingredients, but Raven had what I’m missing. Just waiting for her to bring them up.” That was as good of an ice breaker as I could conjure.

“Thanks.”

“Just for the record, your car isn’t impounded. It’s in the garage.” Alexander sat up too fast and winced. I was at his side in an instant. “You’ve got to slow down. You’re nowhere near healed.”

“Wh-how?”

“When you mentioned the possibility it was impounded, I called the chief of police and had him investigate it. It was still where you parked it, so I had it towed here.”

“Oh, um, thanks. But...” Alexander paused and his face morphed into realization. “You heard everything, didn’t you? Did you stand outside the door and eavesdrop?” He was angry and understandably so, though his assessment was incorrect.

“No, I was in the kitchen.” I pointed to my ears. “Gifted with heightened sight and hearing.” Amongst other things, but now wasn’t the time for that. “If you want to leave, you are free to go, as I’ve told you all along.” Though he’d take a piece of my heart with him…

For dragons when we found our mates, the connection was instantaneous. No questions asked, fate made the decision and so it shall be. Even though my head was cautious, my dragon and my heart were not.

Now for humans, who knew? They’d always been a unique breed, and my omega clearly was not onboard.

“I was coming back.”

“What?”

“I was trying to turn around when I got stuck. I felt this ache in my chest and all I could see was you and our dragon and it was like a punch to the gut when I saw how sad you both were. I was trying to get back to you.”

That changed…everything.

“So-so, you’ll stay?”

Get a grip, Ionus. We’re the stronger species.

If I get a grip you need to get a heart.

Touché.

“Yes, but I want Gramps to come visit and bring the rest of my stuff.”

“That will take a bit of ward reworking, but completely doable.”

“And I want to hike more. It’s therapeutic for me.”

“Not an issue but you are not to go alone. This mountain is treacherous.” I wasn’t about to say with good reason to keep humans and creatures out. But I was sure he’d figure that out on his own.

“I can agree to that.”

Wooing, Ionus. This is the opportune moment.

“Maybe, when you’re up to it, of course, we could try another date?”

“I never got the end of a date kiss,” Alexander panted. I knew it was the heat talking but his scent was incredibly strong, and it was hard to keep my hands to myself. Intoxicating. It drew me in like no other ever had.

I sat beside him on the bed and cupped his cheek. “Would now be an appropriate time for that?” My dragon wanted to dive in and claim what was ours. My hands shook as I fought him with all my might. This had to be done right and Alexander’s way.

“Yes,” he gasped as my lips neared his.

As soon as our mouths touched, the fireworks went off. Soul-deep bolts of electricity shook my core. There was no turning back for me now, I was all in and all it took to seal that deal was the simplest of things…a mere kiss.

Ours.

Yes, Dragon. Ours.

“Dragon, help me.”

“Anything, Alexander. Tell me what you want and it’s yours.”

Our hoard.

Not yet, Dragon. Wait until the time is right to reveal that secret.

“I need. I need.” Alexander panted as his hips thrust upward. “You.”

“You have me, Alexander, but this is the heat talking. You are not well enough. Please, be careful.”

“Dragon, help me.” His call out to our dragon didn’t go unnoticed as he fought to surface.

I’ll handle it. We cannot mate in dragon form, and we must be cognizant of his injuries.

Mate. Bite. Heal.

He had a point. With our blood in Alexander’s system, he’d heal near instantly. But would he later come to regret our quick mating?

“Dragon,” Alexander again pleaded as the internal war raged within me.

Do it now or I will.

That wasn’t a threat, it was a promise.

“Alexander, you must lie still and let me do all the work. Can you promise me that?”

“Yes. Anything. Everything.”

“I promise, there will be time for love making after you’re healed.” With a simple nod, I removed his clothing then mine. By the time we were both thankfully naked, my cock had hardened to a painful level.

Alexander had produced so much slick, it leaked through the linens. I slid a pillow beneath his hips as he writhed and moaned.

“Hurry, Dragon.”

“Mate, this is your first time and I’ll not be hasty and risk you further injury.” Lubrication was unnecessary at this juncture but working him open was a must. His muscles contracted and dilated as I slid the first finger in, widening at the intrusion to allow for more. The omega body was truly an amazing thing. How they could accommodate dragon cocks was beyond me as we were no small feat. Then to give birth, or in this case lay eggs. Every alpha should accept their omega as the gift they were meant to be and not take them for granted. Omegas were our source of life, ensuring there would be future generations.

As if to state the case, in no time I had four fingers in. Words escaped Alexander as he’d been reduced to moans while shamelessly riding my hand.

“Alexander, are you certain this is what you want?” Consent, for that I would not proceed without.

“Yes, please.”

I lined my cockhead at his entrance and slid inside without any resistance from Alexander’s body. It welcomed me, drew me in as if to say I’m home.

His body was meant for us.

Yes, Dragon. Yes it was.

I too was challenged with the English language as I filled our omega. Our mate . Words were no longer needed as we now communicated with our bodies.

Soon he’ll take our knot and lay our eggs.

How long had I waited to hear those words? To feel the depth of their meaning as I thrust inside my mate. Decades. Centuries. Eons. Through all previous couplings my dragon lay silent, only now, with Alexander, had he chosen to be present.

“Keep your sore arm down, love.” Though we were moments away from being fully mated, in which our life forces would merge, I didn’t want him to hurt himself in the interim. “Let your dragon pleasure you. Lie back and enjoy what I’ve waited so long to give you.”

Alexander came right away though his cock remained erect. Heats could last for days unless the omega was impregnated, then it stopped. It had been so long since I rutted that I’d nearly missed the signs. But once I entered Alexander it hit me full tilt. There was no turning back now as my knot expanded inside my mate, locking us together in an erotic stronghold.

Our dragon released with a roar as my cock pulsed inside Alexander, drawing forth another orgasm from our omega.

“Dragon. Dragon. Dragon,” he chanted.

It was time to seal our mating.

I bit into his shoulder and came again as his blood entered my system, my heartbeat an erratic tune as our vital fluids fused. I drew back and pressed my lips to his, released a single flame and watched as it worked its way through his body, toward his heart. The orange glow was such a beautiful sight to behold.

Alexander’s eyes opened, our mental connection while once faint was now undeniably strong. I could hear his thoughts and through it all the staccato beat of our hearts pulsing in tune was music to my ears.

“Can you hear that, love?” He nodded. “Our hearts. The bond is sealed and with that you’ll see and experience many changes. How does your head feel?”

His eyes darted around as he assessed. “Actually, pretty good. Is that from your blood?”

I nodded. “And from my flame. It burns inside you now. We are as one.”

Ours. Mate. Forever.

Yes, Dragon. Forever.

“I-I heard that. Is that our dragon?” Alexander asked, eyes wide with wild curiosity.

“Aye, it is.” Our dragon was giddy, flying loops and figure eights inside me. “He wishes to fly and take you with him.”

“You can do that?”

“I can, but not until this knot goes down and I’m completely certain you’re healed.”

“Then, my dragon,” he wrapped his arms around my neck without a single painful wince. “Make love to me, as you promised. I promise you I feel great.”

“Yes, love, you certainly do.”

Alexander pulled me down toward him as our mouths once again met, though not as gingerly as our first kiss. His lips parted on a breath, and I took the opportunity to slide my tongue inside. Would he know what to do? Follow my lead? Or would he freeze in surprise?

Ah, a momentary pause before a game of chase ensued.

One of the most wonderful things in life was learning what pleased a new lover. There were a few over the years I sought out more than once, but nothing long lasting. I was a loner by choice, a recluse if you will. That was until Alexander came along.

My knot showed no signs of going down, limiting the areas of Alexander’s creamy flesh I wished to explore. Though I took advantage of what was within reach. He writhed and moaned beneath me, riding my cock as I nibbled along his jaw, down his neck, and across his collar bone.

“Come for me, my love. Say my name as you reach the point of no return.”

I was giddy with joy. The throes of passion consumed me, and I lost track of how many times we climaxed throughout the day and well into night. Never had my dragon nor myself been more sated, more at ease. More…in love than we now were.

“Sleep, my love, for tomorrow is another day in our forever.” Whispered, heartfelt words said to my mate as we chased the sunrise until our eyes could no longer remain open.

“Dragon, hungry,” my sweet mate snuggled tightly in my arms.

“Snuggling will only lead to naughty things. Dare I ask what exactly you’re hungry for?” I inhaled his scent as I kissed the top of his head.

“Food. Then maybe more dragon.”

“Cheeky boy.” But Goddess, I loved it already. “All right,” he protested as I tried to get up. “I can’t feed you from the bed unless you’ve changed what you’re hungry for?” My dragon purred so loud there was no way Alexander hadn’t heard that.

“Dragon loves me.”

“Yes, he does and so do I.”

Alexander popped up, nearly clocking my chin in the process.

“You love me? Like, already love me? It’s only been a few days.”

Was he bothered by this? His panic screamed yes. “Deep breath, Alexander. You have to remember, it’s different for dragons than humans. In time, you’ll learn to love us.” I hoped. He nodded, though his eyes remained wide. “I’ll return shortly with food.”

Taking a few moments to myself would do me some good. I went from grouchy, skeptical Ionus to head over heels, batshit in love with my mate who obviously was not of the same mind.

Yet.

I hoped my dragon was right. My heart wouldn’t make it otherwise.

A note sat on the kitchen island, held down by a bag of sugar.

Cheeky mate. Cheeky mage. They’re cut from the same cloth.

I assembled a few sandwiches, grabbed a bag of chips and a couple of sodas, adding bottled water to replenish lost fluids, and loaded the tray to rejoin my mate.

He’d dozed off in my absence and looked so wonderful curled up in the linens. “Alexander, food is here.”

He murmured something unintelligible and rolled over. “Feed me?”

“We have no grapes, sir.” Though I’d promptly add them to the grocery list. The idea of feeding my lover grapes whilst in bed was an opportunity I’d not again miss out on.

Dining in bed was nearly as intimate as love making. Nearly. But very personal just the same. With our stomachs full, we fell into a deep sleep only to have his heat rear up once again. With my mate finally sated, I was hopeful the end of his heat would bring forth the family I longed for.

It was unknown how long I watched him sleep until my brother Caro’s voice came through our bond.

Brother, congratulations on your mating.

Thank you, but was it necessary to interrupt me?

I apologize, but yes. Meet us at the stones.

This couldn’t be good.
