Epilogue
T he bright lights almost blinded her, and she swayed slightly.
“Easy,” Abe said from behind her. “I’ve got you.”
She smiled over at him and wrapped her arms around his waist. “Yes, you do.”
He chuckled and then planted a kiss on her. “So, do you know how all this works?”
She glanced around and nodded. “You go out there, play a bunch of songs and have all those women dream about you, then you take me home and I get to have you.”
He laughed again. “Something like that.” He kissed her again just as he was introduced.
“Break a leg,” she said, thinking that he’d drop his hold on her and walk out onto the stage to thousands of screaming fans.
Instead, he wrapped his fingers around hers and pulled her out onto the stage with him.
In his left hand he held a microphone, and he spoke into it as they entered the spotlight.
“Good evening, LA,” he called out and had the entire stadium cheering.
It was deafening. Her heart skipped. Her entire body tensed.
She’d never stood in front of so many people in her life. Never cared to.
He stopped in the middle of the stage.
“Many of you might have heard that last year I was in a little… accident.” He glanced over at her. The audience booed and then clapped. Someone shouted, “We love you, Abe!” from the front row.
“I love you too.” He winked and cheers erupted again.
“Well, I’m here tonight, on my first tour since then, with a very special someone.
” He held up their joined hands and the crowd went wild.
When the cheering died down a little, he turned towards her.
The entire stadium gasped when he went down on his knee, his good knee, still holding her hand in his.
“Dylan Beck, we’ve been through a lot together—flying off cliffs, having guns pointed at us, moving homes, remodeling, buying horses together. ” He smiled.
“Get on with it,” someone shouted from the front row.
Dylan glanced over and saw Nate smiling up at them and laughed.
“Shut up, Nate,” Abe said with a chuckle. Then he turned his gaze back to her. “What I’m trying, but failing, to say is, will you marry me?”
She smiled and knelt beside him. As she cupped his face in her hands, the entire world faded away until all she could see was him.
“I’ve loved you from the moment you swaggered onto the beach during that bonfire,” she said softly. “I’ll love you until our end. Yes.” She laughed when the stadium erupted again. “I’ll marry you,” she finished as her lips pressed against his.
