KAYLEE

I scream as Dad swings.

My hands fly up to my mouth, causing the sound to be short and clipped.

Silencing myself only allows me to hear the cracking sound of Dad’s knuckles against Austin’s jaw.

I watch as his head swings to the side from the force. I expect all hell to break loose.

I’ve never known a man to stand back and take a beating.

Worry consumes me.

I can’t jump between them if a fight breaks out. I’m pregnant and need to protect my baby.

And I refuse to call the police on either one of them.

Surprise washes over me when Austin turns his head back to look at my father.

He doesn’t jump on him or swing back.

He doesn’t even rub his reddening jaw. “I know you’re pissed about this, and you have every right to be.”

“Damn straight I do,” Dad says, his fist tightening at his side.

His chest is rising and falling as his breathing becomes labored.

His back is straight, his shoulders are squared, and his feet are planted.

He’s ready to fight.

I haven’t seen this side of my dad in a long time, and only when he felt the need to defend a family member.

When will he see that I’m not an innocent little girl anymore?

Austin didn’t walk into my life and trick me into bed. We’re adults who want to be together.

“This isn’t a game, Dave. I love her. We’re going to have a baby, and we’re going to get married one of these days. I know that the only thing you can see is how wrong this is, but think about it. You know that when I commit to something, I don’t turn away. I will be here every day of my life, raising my child and taking care of Kay. I’ll support her. You know she’ll have a better life with me than with some overgrown manchild. You know she’s better off with me than the loser who cheated on her with her best friend.”

The look in my father’s eyes tells me that he’s thinking about what Austin is saying.

It reminds me of all the times growing up when I talked my way out of getting grounded.

He knows what Austin is saying is true, but he’s still so angry about the circumstances that he can’t allow himself to be swayed either way just yet.

I know my father, and I know that he will need a few days to himself to think about this before he decides whether he’s okay with it.

In a few days, he’ll come back, and we’ll sit and talk.

He’s always been a swing-first, ask-questions-later kind of guy.

The worst part is out of the way.

“You know I’ll take care of them, Dave. You know I wouldn’t ever do anything to hurt her. She’s having my child,” Austin says, his eyes moving from my dad to me, and I see the way his eyes darken and fill with love.

I can’t stop myself from walking over to him.

I wrap my arms around him, smashing my cheek to his chest and hugging him, no longer looking at my father.

Austin wraps me up and buries his nose in my hair, inhaling deeply.

“I love her, Dave.”

I listen for my dad’s reply, but all I hear is the sound of his boots on the hardwood floor before the door opens and then slams shut behind him.

I turn and look up at Austin, who’s staring at the door.

His jaw is starting to bruise. I reach up, lightly touching the spot, and feeling heat radiating from it. “I’ll get some ice.” I pull away before he can stop me.

In the kitchen, I fill a sandwich bag full of ice and wrap it in a small towel. Then, I grab a bottle of water from the fridge and a couple of Tylenol.

I walk into the living room, finding him on the couch with his head back and looking at the ceiling. I climb onto his lap, straddling him. “Here. Take these.”

He lifts his head, looking at my hands.

He lets me drop the Tylenol into his palm. He tosses them into his mouth while I uncap the water.

I hand it over, watching as he washes them down. I put the cap back on the bottle.

I lean in, pressing my chest to his. I put my left elbow on his shoulder and hold my head in my hand as I move the ice to his jaw.

His eyes stay trained on the ceiling, blinking slowly but not moving.

“He’ll come around,” I promise.

“What if he doesn’t?”

“He will.”

His mouth tightens into a line like he isn’t sure.

“I have known the man my entire life. You think that’s the first time I saw that look from him?”

He looks at me, and I shake my head.

“I saw that look almost weekly for the four years I was in high school.” A giggle slips out.

“He’s my father. He loves me and wants to protect me from everything. He’s always had a hard time accepting that I was growing up. Trust me; he’ll come around. And when he does, he’ll see that everything you said is right. He knows you’ll take care of me and our baby better than any guy I would have found at college.” I lean in, pressing my mouth softly to his.

At first, our kiss is stiff and slow. But the longer I keep my lips against his, the more his body warms.

His lips become softer and more fluid. They begin to move slowly with mine.

They move a little faster, opening and allowing my tongue to slide into his mouth.

After a moment, they move even faster and our kiss grows harder and more urgent.

His tongue is now dipping into my mouth and he’s pushing the ice from his jaw as he tangles his fingers into my hair, pulling me closer.

My blood warms as it races around my body, causing my skin is break out in a light sweat as my need for him magnifies.

There’s something about watching him stand up to my dad that makes me love him that much more.

Scott never stood up to my dad.

If my dad had punched him in the jaw, I have no doubt that he would have curled up on the floor.

I know every word Austin said is true.

I know he loves me, and that he’ll protect me and support me and our child.

I know he is my forever.

I feel it in my gut, deep in my soul, and I’ve never felt this with anyone else.

I roll my hips against him, grinding myself against his stiffening cock. His hands fall from my hair, landing on my hips that he squeezes and stills.

He breaks our kiss, letting his head fall back as his eyes open and lock with mine. “Kay…” he groans.

“What’s wrong?” I ask, leaning in and kissing his jaw.

“It’s too soon. He just left, and there’s still so much unfinished between us.”

I nip his earlobe. “It’s not too soon.” I pull back, looking into his eyes.

“You think we can’t have sex until he’s okay with us being together?”

I grab the hem of my shirt, pulling it over my head. “That’s going to be a week, at least. And after listening to you talk about how much you love me, how you’ll always be here to take care of me and our baby, the only thing I want right now is you inside of me.” I place my hand on his throat, as I lean in and kiss him hard.

After only a moment, he’s back with me. His arms are wrapping around me, and he’s leaning forward, causing me to sit back.

He breaks our kiss and looks into my eyes. “You know I meant it, right?”

I nod.

“Every word.” Holding me against him, he lays me across the couch while staying between my legs.

He roughly grabs at the cups of my bra, yanking them down until my breasts spill out the top.

“I’m never letting you go, Kay.” His voice is thick and easy as he moves his mouth to my nipple, sucking it into my mouth before flicking his tongue against it.

My pussy throbs.

“God, you feel so good,” I whisper.

His mouth moves from one breast to the other while his hands dip lower to unfasten my jeans.

When he has them undone, he yanks them down my legs, discarding them on the floor.

Grabbing my thigh, he kisses the inside of my knee, working his way up higher.

“Mmmmm, always so wet for me,” he says, pressing against my core with his thumb. “You’re soaking your panties, and I’ve barely touched you.”

His thumb sweeps under the edge of the fabric, dragging my arousal up to my clit that’s drawn itself into a tighter, harder nub.

My body twitches when he brushes against it.

He bites my inner thigh and continues to tease my clit. “How badly do you want my dick right now, Kay?”

I whimper. “So bad. Please,” I beg.

He grabs my panties and yanks, tearing them from me. “You’re always ready to take my cock, aren’t you?” He drags his tongue between my folds.

I nod, my hips bucking. “Austin, please. I need you.”

Suddenly, he thrusts his fingers into my heat while he sucks my clit into his mouth.

I let out a loud moan as I reach between my legs to grab his hair.

My hips take on a mind of their own as I grind against his mouth.

He doesn’t push me away or make me stop.

In fact, I like he likes it, because after I fuck his face, he thrusts into me so hard that the couch slides backward.

I push against his chest until he rolls us over.

With him sitting on the couch and me straddling him, I fist his hair and kiss him while I ride every inch like I’ll never get the chance to again.
