Epilogue 2

DARK

Six Years Later.

Staring out over the canyon, the onyx night lit up with stars and a full moon, makes me think how much my beautiful wife would love seeing the view. The light breeze rustles the foliage, and the coyotes howl as they catch their evening kill.

Tonight, however, is not about her. Not directly. She has no idea there is anything amiss. She’s home with our four children, sleeping peacefully in the knowledge that her husband will be back in bed with her by morning.

“Sir?” Leonard asks, bringing forth the reason I’m here.

Angus McCully, an overzealous fan of my wife’s romance novels, has been sending her descriptive letters and emails of what he’d like to do to her. She ignores him, blocks him, and thinks he’s just a harmless reader.

He’s not.

I looked into him.

He’s obsessed with her and has built up this life for the two of them in his head, and until today, had plans to kidnap her while she was taking our oldest to karate.

Of course, that was never going to work out.

I’m far more obsessed with the woman and wouldn’t have allowed her out of my sight long enough for anything to happen.

“Strip him.” My stern order echoes around the empty canyon like there’s a hidden speaker system.

A struggle takes place behind me—a loud thunk followed by a moan, then pleading.

“You were going to take my wife and traumatize my child, Angus. How did you think this was going to end?” It’s not as though the world doesn’t know about my obsession with Hael; she’s made it very clear on her social media when she speaks of us or posts pictures.

Calling me her ultimate love story. “You must pay for it. You’ll be a warning to anyone else who shares your thoughts. ”

Grabbing him by the back of the head, I jerk the man forward so he can face his fate in this lonely, secluded part of the canyon. Shoving him, I command, “Start walking.” His body shakes with fear as he sobs.

I grip the handle of my knife, dragging it from my waistband, and kneel down to slice clean through both Achilles tendons. Blood spurts, and McCully drops to his knees with a bellow.

Lifting my foot, I kick him in the back and watch as he goes tumbling down the hill into the darkness. The emptiness beyond amplifies his wails, and I grin like the psychopath I’m accused of being.

“Destroy everything,” I instruct Leonard, trusting that he’ll take care of any evidence that could lead back to us. “Have a team search for his body in the morning; I get the feeling he won’t last long. And make sure they dispose of it.

While Leo does his job, I head home to shower, then spend the evening between my wife’s legs and emptying her tits of the milk that flows too heavily for our daughter to drain.

Hael has given me the world, and tonight is only proof of my devotion to her. I’ll do anything to keep my wife and children safe and happy. No matter the cost to me.

The End!
