Liam
For all my opinions on the genre and appreciation of romance movies and books in general, nothing in the world prepared me for the moment I laid eyes on my fated mate. Slightly wavy and longish blond hair, bright sapphire eyes. Not even the stories our parents told us had me ready for the moment I scented him. I stood there frozen and let myself soak in the euphoria of the moment. From his wide-eyed look, it seemed I wasn’t alone in my shock.
When a horn resounded next to me and I saw him jump in surprise, I shook myself out of it. Get it together, Liam, and take care of our mate.
My bear was ready to maul me for standing there when we should be carrying his bags and sniffing him. I approached the stunning man, putting out my hand to him. He shivered and put his hand in mine, shaking it before grinning wide.
“I’m happy to see you, Liam. The airport is getting a bit crazy for me to be honest, and I can’t thank you enough.”
Goddess, I loved the sound of my name coming from his lips.
“I’m glad I could help. Let’s get you and your bags into the truck and we can head to my cabin. I do have food there I can make but if you are hungry, I don’t mind stopping at one of the diners that is still open along the way. There aren’t many, but a couple of them have their houses nearby and decided to stay open a bit longer just in case anyone needed anything before the heavier weather blows in overnight.” As I spoke, I took the two bags he had and put them in the back seat of my truck. Then I helped him up into the passenger side, closing the door behind him before coming around to the driver’s side and getting in.
“I could use a quick bite if we find one, or even a gas station for something to snack on. Luckily I don’t have any issues with foods, so I’m pretty easy in that regard.” Spencer fidgeted with his fingers in his lap, and I opened the glove box and handed him two items from inside. “What are these for?”
“Well, the gloves are for if you need to warm up a bit. They are pretty soft and warm, and I love wearing them in this type of weather until the chill leaves my body. Then the other is a new fidget I bought this week. I like to keep my hands busy, and it looked like you may appreciate it. If you don’t want to use it though, you can toss it back inside.” I knew he liked the feel of it in his hands though. There was something in the little curve of his lips that spoke to it.
Unfortunately, there were no stores open on our way to the house and no gas stations either. I guessed I would be cooking him dinner and lending him a pair of my sweats. My bear rumbled in pleasure at the thought of wrapping our mate up in our scent and filling his belly. I grew hard imagining stripping those clothes off of him and filling him in a different way. Sparing a glance at Spencer to ensure he wasn’t looking at me, I adjusted myself. Fuck, I was in trouble. Not only was the man my brother’s best friend, but he was about to have his heart broken when he heard that his fiancé was a piece of scum. That was a lot to process when realizing he is also my fated mate.
Pulling into my garage, I shut off the engine. “Sorry, everything was closed. I am sure I can come up with something you will love.”
“Love huh, not just like.” Spencer smirked. “We’ll see.”
Oh, I like this. He just met me but is already feeling comfortable enough to be a cheeky omega. That has to be a good sign.
Getting out of my truck, I jogged to the other side to help Spencer get down out of my vehicle.
“I can get down myself.” Spencer flushed. “But thanks.”
“I know you can. But why not help when I can?” Placing my hands on his hips, I supported him while he made his way out. “Let’s get inside and I can get you set up with comfortable clothes and some snacks. Do you prefer tagless sweats? I have ones I ordered from a specialty store for people who have issues with textures, and they are tagless, seamless, and super soft. I love them but accidentally ordered a couple pairs in a size smaller than what I wear. I was going to give them to Isaac or our sister, but you can have them instead if you like them.”
“I can pay you for them—”
“No.” I held a finger up, pausing to unlock my door. “I don’t need the money. I was going to gift them away anyway. Now I don’t need to get you a gift for whatever holiday or birthday comes next.”
“We just met; you wouldn’t have to get me a gift anyway.”
“Don’t you know? Once we meet someone, my family attaches ourselves to them forever. Didn’t Isaac tell you that you are stuck with me now?”
“What?” Wide eyes met my own.
“I just mean that if you are Isaac’s friend anyway, you will be around. So eventually I would get you something.”
“Even Alan doesn’t get me a gift for my birthday. He says it’s stupid for adults to exchange gifts.”
“Who’s Alan?”
“My fiancé.”
“Then he’s an idiot.”
“Why?”
“Because anyone who is blessed enough to have someone like you in their life better show their partner how much the appreciate them. Or else someone else will.”
I wasn’t sure what I expected him to say after those words. I didn’t expect to be pushed up against my door with Spencer’s lips pressed to mine and a little moan slipping out of him. I wrapped my arms around my omega as I deepened our kiss. Before I did something stupid like ground my hard erection into my omega, Isaac’s ringtone broke the spell we were under. I found myself panting, separated from Spencer by barely a hair length and speechless as we ignored that phone call.
