CHAPTER ELEVEN

Vanessa “Nessa” Monroe

Present Day

Dropping the phone on my bed I went over the conversation I’d just had with Sky.

My friend and previous employer wanted to recommend me for a job and called me to make sure I was available before she put my name forward.

Going over the minimal details Sky had been able to give me, I focused on the two things that would have me seriously considering the job.

The distance between the States and South Africa and the person I’d be working for.

I liked that there was a huge distance between Savannah and Cape Town and that my prospective employer was a biker.

If the interview went well and he offered me the job I knew I’d most probably take it.

I knew MC’s, knew their ins and outs, as I’d grown up surrounded by bikers. With my brother and his best friend Dive being officers in the Shadow Wraiths MC I was even more aware of how they operated.

The Shadow Wraiths MC was a one percenter club and I knew that in the eyes of the authorities, and most civilians, my brother was an outlaw.

I didn’t care, he was my brother, my blood, and I loved him fiercely.

Nicholas, or rather Magic, never hid what they were from me or our parents.

I appreciated his honesty but I knew his honesty was a way to discourage me from hooking up with one of his club brothers. Not that there was a snowball’s chance in hell of that ever happening. Between them Magic and Dive made sure none of their brothers ever gave me a second look.

I was an untouchable.

Much like Leo had been until she rebelled against their stupid rules.

Not that there was a brother I wanted to hook up with. I knew all of them too darn well. Had seen too many bare hairy asses on party nights to ever want to go there.

The sluts were welcome to them, I wasn’t interested.

My time with Sky in Johannesburg had shown me there were clubs that were different. The Iron Dogz aren’t a one percenter club but that’s not to say they were law abiding Sunday riders. They were as dangerous as any of the one percenter clubs and the war they fought and won proved it.

It meant I would be safe if I took the job in Cape Town.

No one would dare target a woman who worked for one of the club brothers.

And just like that my mind was made up.

If he called and offered me the job I was going to take it.

The doorbell being pushed over and over had me rushing down the stairs, pissed off. Whoever the hell it was had better stop pushing the damn thing before I cut their fingers off.

I ripped the door open ready to lay into the brother who was obviously trying to piss me off.

It wasn’t a brother.

A dark haired woman in a skirt that was more a suggestion than a skirt and a bandeau across her massive fake tits stood on my porch, a couple of bags next to her.

The way the bitch was dressed, the teased to hell hair and the tons of make-up let me know exactly what she was.

Club slut.

“What the fuck do you want?” I hissed.

She glowered at me and tried to push past me into the house.

“Bitch, do not try to push your way into my house, I’ll lay you out right here on the porch.” I threatened as I pushed her back.

Wobbling on her sky high heels she threw attitude at me.

“The brothers sent me to take care of Magic. I’ll be livin’ here with him until he’s better. We’ve been together for a few months now and he needs me.”

I laughed right in her face.

“Someone is fuckin’ with you bitch or you’re taking a fat chance. I bet you thought he lived alone and he wouldn’t be strong enough to kick you out. And the two of you being together is bullshit. Get your slutty ass off my porch before I make you.” I snarled right in her face.

She looked shocked but then came back at me.

“I’m his girl, he said so and you’ll be the one leavin’. I’m movin’ in.” She again tried to push past me.

Enough was enough.

I was faintly aware of the shuffling of steps behind me and the sound of bikes pulling in.

I didn’t let that stop me.

Stepping out the door I swung, smashing a fist into her face, the other into her midriff. Air burst out through her lips in a pained huff as she teetered on her heels then went down like a ton of bricks.

“What the fuck is goin’ on out here, Ness?” Magic asked in a painful grunt.

I stood with my legs apart, arms crossed over my chest and glared down at the howling slut.

“This bitch maintains that your brothers over there sent her to take care of you. She said she’s your girl and she’s movin’ in. You know the rule, no sluts in the house, so what the hell is this?”

Magic was frowning heavily as he looked at the brothers grouped at the bottom of the stairs.

“What did you fuckers do?” He snarled.

“Ah, brother, we just thought you needed a bit o’ fun. When Slinky said she was comin’ to keep you company we decided to ride along.” One of the fuckers said with a grin.

Before I could say a word my brother pulled his phone out and growled. “Call Dive.”

He had the call on speaker.

“Yeah, brother, how you doin’ today?” The brother sounded relaxed as he answered.

“Who the fuck thought it was a good idea to send a slut to my house? The bitch disrespected Ness, claims she’s mine and she’s movin’ into my fuckin’ house. Get here and sort this shit brother before I kill the laughin’ fuckin’ bastards for trespassin’ on my property.”

I could almost feel the pissed off vibe coming through the phone.

“I don’t know anythin’ about this, Magic. I’ll handle it. We’re on our way, will be with you in about fifteen.”

Magic didn’t say another word, he just ended the call.

“Magic, baby, the bitch attacked me. She hurt me, you have to get rid of her.” The slut moaned as she gingerly got to her knees then stood, wobbling on her heels.

Her nose was bleeding and her breathing was laboured.

“I have no idea who the fuck you are and if you call my sister a bitch one more time I’ll let her beat you to a fuckin’ pulp.”

She gasped and pressed a hand to her huge tits that were threatening to escape the confines of her stupid little top. It was a practised move to draw attention to her over large assets.

For a moment I ignored her and took in the brothers at the bottom of the steps. They looked like junior patches, young and stupid.

How the hell had they gotten pulled into this stunt?

They couldn’t be stupid enough to believe the lies the bitch was sprouting.

I was still glaring at them when Dive, Ren, Lure and Breaker turned into the drive. They looked like pissed off thunderclouds.

“What the fuck is goin’ on here?” Ren barked as he stalked towards the house.

Dive didn’t say a word he came straight up the steps walked past the bitch and right up to me.

“I see you clocked her a good one, little sister.” He said as he stooped and pressed a kiss to my forehead.

“She’s lucky I didn’t do more. Too many witnesses around.” I grumbled nodding to the house across the street where a neighbour stood watching avidly.

Ren, Lure and Breaker had an intense discussion with the assholes and I wasn’t surprised to see them turn tail and head to their bikes.

Dive turned to the bitch.

“Who the fuck are you?” He snapped.

“I’m Slinky and I belong to Magic. We’re together.” She said, once again full of bravado.

“Bullshit. My brother and I share everythin’, if you had been in his bed I would have been there as well. Who the fuck put you up to this?” He stepped towards her threateningly.

Oh wow. That wasn’t something I knew about.

Could that be why Evie ran out on my brother? I would have to think on it, but that would happen later. Right now I had to concentrate on the drama playing out on our porch.

“I…uh…I…I needed the money. He said it was a joke. That Magic would find it funny. I…I didn’t know I would get hurt doin’ him a favour. Nothin’ is goin’ down as he said it would.”

“Who the fuck are you talkin’ about?” Ren snapped as he stalked up the steps.

He came to me and kissed my forehead before turning to the stunned slut.

I’m sure it was beginning to dawn on her that she had been played.

“I…I met him at the bar. He…he said his name was Robbie. He paid me to play a trick on Magic. I…I didn’t know it was no trick. I’m sorry. So sorry. Please, I’ll leave and not trouble you again.” She promised desperately.

“That’s abso-fuckin’-lutely right. You’re goin’ to get gone and don’t even think about comin’ to the clubhouse. You’re banned.” Ren snapped.

“Breaker, brother, get her and her shit in her piece of crap car and see that she gets gone.” He ordered.

Breaker nodded and between him and Lure they made sure she didn’t linger.

“Magic, you need to sit down before you fall down.”

I gently urged my brother back into the house and onto the couch.

He sighed with relief as he sat down.

Dive dragged the coffee table closer and sat down in front of Magic, putting a hand on his knee.

“You doin’ okay, brother? You’re fuckin’ white as a sheet.”

“I just moved too fast when I heard Ness arguin’ with someone. The pain is manageable and will settle in a minute or so.”

I left them to go to his room to fetch his pain meds. Dive was right, he was white as a sheet and in obvious pain.

When I walked back into the lounge they had obviously sorted things and I let it go. The club would see to it that no one bothered my brother again.

“Thanks for comin’ so quickly.” I said.

I poured two pain pills into the palm of my hand then gave them to Magic along with a glass of water.

He groaned. “I hate these pills, Ness, they make me fuzzy. I’d rather have Ibuprofen.”

I knew he hated the pain pills so I had brought him the tablets he wanted.

“Let’s see how you go with those and if the pain doesn’t recede then you take one of your pain pills. Okay?”

He nodded and swallowed the pills down.

I decided now was as good a time as any to drop my own bombshell.

“I’ve been approached to take on a job. It’s not for sure yet but if it’s offered I’m goin’ to take it.”

“Fuck. Ma is goin’ to have a fuckin’ freak out. If you’re goin’ back on the road with a band how long will you be gone for?” Magic didn’t look too worried about me leaving on a job.

“Actually the job is not with a band. It’s with someone Sky knows. He’s in need of a nanny urgently and since I’m without a contract at the moment I said I would give it some thought.”

All of them narrowed their eyes, trying to intimidate me with their death stares.

“Who? Where? And how long?” Ren growled.

“I wasn’t given his name because he hasn’t been told about me yet. Sky is goin’ to put my name forward and I’m waitin’ to hear back.” I bit my lips before giving them the last bit. “The job is in South Africa and if I get it I’ll be workin’ for a brother in the Iron Dogz MC.”

For a moment you could have heard a pin drop.

“The fuck?” Breaker snapped.

“Are you fuckin’ serious?” Ren glared at me.

“What the hell, Vanessa?” Magic looked at me like I was crazy. Using my full name told me he was concerned.

“You think we’re goin’ to allow you to go all the way out there to work for some motherfucker in another club?” Dive leaned in close.

I held both hands up.

“Whoa! Slow your roll. Didn’t you hear what I said? I said Sky would let the brother know I was available and lookin’ for a job.”

I waved my finger threateningly under Dive’s nose.

“Don’t even think about tryin’ to interfere. I’m a twenty eight year old woman and I make my own decisions regardin’ my life. Not my parents, my brother or the club. Are we clear?” I snarled.

“Have you told Ma about this?” Magic asked.

I just shook my head. He knew how our mother has been bugging me to settle down in Savannah.

Dive suddenly grinned and winked. “Those fuckin’ Dogz have no idea what they’re gettin’ into with you. Wish I could see the surprise on their fuckin’ faces when you lay them out for comin’ on to you.”

I snorted. “Don’t be ridiculous, no one ever notices the nanny. It’s like I’m invisible most of the time.”

They all snickered as if they knew something I didn’t.

Assholes.

“I have shit to do. Now that you’re all here you can keep him company.” I waved towards Magic as I made my way to the stairs.

“She has no idea, does she?” I heard Ren ask softly.

Both Dive and Magic answered. “None.”

“We’ll keep an eye on it. Now this Robbie fucker, any idea who he might be?”

I left them to their theories and closed the door to my part of the house.

If I was going to go to South Africa I had research to do.

Having been there with Sky I knew their seasons were different to ours but I wanted to do proper research. I didn’t want to get there and be surprised by what I found.

Spider

Present Day

His boy was running around the playground as if he had boundless energy. He had taken a shine to one of the other kids but the mother had taken one look at Spider and hurried her kid away. As if he would hurt the little fucker.

It was another indication that he had to ensure his son didn’t grow up with a lot of entitled motherfuckers.

When he headed to the massive sandpit he quickly intercepted him, scooping his boy up and heading towards where Josie sat on a blanket under the trees.

She smiled as they approached. His little man was not happy.

“You can let him play in the sandpit. It’s safe. They cover and lock it down at night and in the morning they sift through it to be sure it’s safe for the little ones.”

“I’ve been doing my research and it said not to allow your kids to play in public sandpits. That it’s full of germs.” Spider said as he sat down and his boy crawled over to his pile of toys.

“Have you given a thought to what we talked about last time? About coming to work for me?” He asked.

Josie dropped her head. “I only took the job as his nanny to be able to save money to complete college. I’m two years short of earning my degree in Education and I want to do a year of Post Graduate study as well, but it costs a lot of money. I’ve saved up enough to go back to college for a year. If you get custody of your son that’s what I’m going to do because it gets me closer to my goal.”

Spider nodded slowly. The girl was good to his boy and if he could help her he was going to. He sent a quick text to Fish while she was engaged with little man.

Bro, have a look into Josephine “Josie” Jeremiah please. Want to know her university debt. Studying to be a teacher.

The answer came back almost immediately.

On it.

He was sliding his phone back into his kutte pocket when it chimed with an incoming call.

“Hey you.” He greeted his sister.

“Where are you?”

She was so damned rude sometimes.

“At the park with little man. It’s Wednesday, my visitation day.”

“The same park where we met him the first time?”

“Yes, why?” He frowned.

“I’m here.” He heard the smile in her voice.

“I got away earlier than expected and I want to see my nephew. Wrath said he’ll bring me to you. I’ll see you in about twenty minutes. Byeeee!”

And then she was gone.

Typical Genna, once she decided on something it was full steam ahead.

Almost exactly twenty minutes later he watched her striding towards where they were sitting. Spider stood and waited for the inevitable. She had a huge smile on her face, threw herself in his arms and he hugged her hard, swinging her from side to side before setting her down.

He turned to Wrath with a grin.

“I see my sister got you into a cage with her. Glad to see you survived it.”

Wrath grinned when she pulled a face at him from where she was crouching on the blanket chatting to Josie and little man.

“She’s not too bad, bro. It could have been worse, it could have been Tania driving. Now that’s something you do not want to experience. She’s a shit driver.”

Genna came towards them with his boy in her arms.

“And this man here with your Daddy is your Uncle Wrath.” She waved his little hand at Wrath who smiled.

Little man was watching him, not really sure if he was okay with this new person in his life.

He turned in her arms to look at Spider.

“Waf gots lotsa haiw, Daddy.” He said with big eyes.

“Yes, he does, little man.” Spider grinned.

“I’se lidde maaan.” He said proudly.

“Yes, you’re your Daddy’s little man.”

His boy nodded as if he had known it all along. Spider felt a heaviness in his chest as he watched Genna walk towards the swings with his boy.

What he didn’t expect was Josie to jump up from the blanket and rush towards them.

“No sings!” Little man shouted and clung to Gen’s neck.

What the hell? This was new, his boy liked the swings when they were here before.

Spider and Wrath rushed over to join them and he took his crying boy in his arms.

“Hey, little man, what’s wrong?”

His baby boy shoved his head into his neck and whimpered.

He fucking whimpered.

“What the fuck is going on, Josie?” He kept his voice even not allowing the worry and anger to show.

“They bought him a small swing set. I was pushing him on it when the Master came out and took over. He pushed him too rough and too high and he panicked and started screaming in fright. The Master wouldn’t stop, said he had to learn to face his fears. He needed a son who wasn’t afraid of anything. Now he’s scared and refuses to get on the swings and when he does he cries and screams.” Josie explained in a rushed breath.

Spider’s temper rose and he had to tamp it down before he exploded.

Looking at the swings he got an idea.

“Do you want to swing with Daddy?” He asked softly as he walked over to the swings for older kids.

They looked sturdy enough to take his weight.

His son clung to him as he gingerly sat down and slowly started moving the swing backwards and forwards. Not much, just a gentle back and forth.

Little man’s tears dried and he slowly lifted his head. He clung to Spider’s shirt as he moved them gently, letting his boy see they were safe.

He was going to gut that motherfucker then feed him to the sharks. Scaring a baby the way he had done was what bullies did. Bullies and child abusers.

No matter what, he had to win full custody of his son.

He would do whatever he had to, even marry some bitch, if it meant he got his son away from those motherfucking bastards.

He had no idea how long he sat on that damned swing before Gen gently let him know that his boy had fallen asleep.

Handing him over to Josie killed. It genuinely killed to watch her strap him into the stroller and head up the road to the fucking mansion where his fucking slut of a mother lived.

He hated it.

Hated letting his boy go back into a house where his gut told him he wasn’t safe.

“We need to get Josie’s statement about the abuse. It’s going to make a difference to our case.” Genna said softly.

“She’s too scared of them to say a word.” Spider said through gritted teeth.

“I’ll convince her to talk, leave it to me.” She said.

Then she turned and started loading up the blanket and toys into the big bag he had brought with him.

He might have gone a bit overboard at the toy shop but since he hadn’t been in his boy’s life since the day he was born he was due some presents. He eased his mind by saying the toys were belated birthday and Christmas presents.

Loading the bag in the back of his cage he stood next to it staring up the road where his son had disappeared.

“Spider, brother, let’s get out of here before one of these uptight bitches report us to the pigs for loitering.” Wrath snarled while glaring at a woman watching them from inside the park.

“Yeah, let’s get out of here.”

Driving back to the clubhouse he kept going through his options over and over in his mind. There wasn’t much he could do besides fight them for full custody without proof of abuse. And scaring a little kid was abuse, plain and simple.

He needed to talk to Ice and Joan.

Something had to be done, and fast.

Not that he knew what they could do but he felt sure they could come up with a way to get more access to his boy.

One day a week and every second weekend wasn’t enough.

He wanted more, so much more.

The problem was how to go about getting what he wanted.

Legally.

Walking into the clubhouse he was surprised to see Ingrid sitting at the bar. She was laughing and joking with Thomas, the prospect on duty. Shakes and Trigger were hanging out with her and he could see his brothers were very interested.

“Hey, babe, what are you doing here? Why aren’t you hanging out with Niki?” He asked as he gave her a quick kiss on the mouth.

He heard a grumble from beside him and turned to smile at his sister. She did not return the smile. Damn. He should have warned her about Ingrid because the moment she laid eyes on her she knew they were sleeping together. Not that he wanted to hide his non-relationship with her, he just didn’t want his sister to take it the wrong way.

“Gen, this is a friend of mine, Ingrid Larsson. She’s visiting from the States with Dom and Niki for a few weeks. Ingrid, this is my sister Genna.” He introduced them.

His sister put on a fake friendly smile and shook hands. “Pleased to meet you, Ingrid. My brother didn’t tell me he had a gorgeous visitor.”

Ingrid smiled. “Same here. I can see the family resemblance even though you don’t have the same eye or hair colour.”

“I have the Walker eyes while he has our mother’s eyes. And my hair is actually the same colour as his, I just dye mine so we don’t all look the same. That would be boring.”

Ingrid looked at his hair then back at Genna.

“If yours look like his then it definitely wouldn’t look boring. He has great hair.”

His sister wrinkled her nose.

“If I spent half as much of my time in the sun as he does I’ll be a wrinkled old prune by the time I’m forty. Which isn’t that far off for either of us.”

“No! You can’t be in your thirties, you don’t look a day over twenty five or so.”

“Hah! Add ten years and you’ll have the correct age. But thanks for saying I look younger, you just made my day.”

He was about to get in the middle of their chat when his name being called had him turning.

Blaze stood at the end of the passage that led to their offices beckoning him over.

“Excuse me ladies, I need to talk to Blaze for a minute.” He excused himself.

He hoped like hell he wasn’t making a mistake leaving Ingrid with Genna. His sister wasn’t the most gentle of females when it came to protecting her brothers from predatory females.

Not that Ingrid was one of those. She was the opposite in fact.

Following Blaze to their prez’s office he shut all that shit down and focused on the here and now.

Kid was in the office along with Sly and they didn’t look happy. Not at all.

“What’s going on?”

Orca looked pissed. “I was just informed that we’ve had creepers on the docks. Nothing showing on the cameras, but, a couple of the containers were tampered with.”

“Fucking hell. Do you think it’s the gangs?”

“I don’t know. We’ve upped our camera coverage as of this morning. It’s a wait and see game now.” Orca did not look pleased that they would have to wait.

“We’re safe at the moment, we don’t have another shipment going out in the next three weeks. They can fucking snoop as much as they like they won’t find a thing.” Spider shrugged.

“As long as you’re sure about that.”

“I am, Prez. We don’t have anything but our legal shipments waiting to be shipped. We’re in the clear. It gives us time to see who the fuck is snooping in our business and find out how they knew we were shipping shit that’s less than legal.”

“I’ll put more brothers on watch. Maybe we get lucky and catch one of the fuckers.” Kid growled.

“Good, do it. I have to get home to my old lady. Let me know when we get one of them.”

They left his office and Spider headed to the bar, hoping his sister was behaving herself and not scaring Ingrid off.

He wasn’t ready to let her go yet.

He would, but not just yet.
