CHAPTER THIRTY FIVE

Spider

He slept deep and woke up to an empty bed and bright sunshine falling through the window.

Moving gingerly he was pleasantly surprised when he felt no sharp pains. There was pain, but not as sharp as it was yesterday.

Getting out of bed he used the bathroom, washed his hands and face and brushed his teeth. Gritting his teeth against the pain in his chest he pulled his hair back, wrapped a scrunchie around it and once done went looking for his family.

He found them on the patio with his Joburg family. Rush was playing on a mat on the grass, a sunhat on his head, surrounded by toys while the adults sat on the patio keeping an eye on him.

Kissing his old lady good morning he lifted her out of the chair, sat down then lowered her to sit on his lap. She gave him a look, moved around until she had her legs between his and her ass on the thigh without a hole in it.

“You do not want to pop your stitches. Remember how painful your chest was when that happened?” She pressed a kiss to his mouth then stood.

“I’m goin’ to get you some coffee while you guys chat about whatever it is you came to chat about.” Winking at him she walked back into the house.

His dad didn’t wait to let him know why they were there.

“Dom reached out to Kid this morning. He has Rahul Gopal in his dungeon and extended an invitation. He said you’re welcome to join them when they start asking questions.”

His gut reaction was to say ‘hell yes’ because he wanted a piece of the motherfucker. But there was more at stake than just him and his need to end the fucker. The asswipe was the son of the fucker in charge of The Foundation and ending him would lead to repercussions they weren’t ready for. Not yet anyway.

“I think Dom has to play this one very carefully. Ask questions, yes, but at the end of it return the piece of shit to his daddy. With a note saying thanks for the information. Let his fucked up father kill him for spilling their secrets. Or at least, let him think the fucker betrayed him and his organisation.”

Ice gave an evil grin and nodded his head.

“That’s a brilliant plan and exactly what your President suggested he do. The two of you are going to be a force to be reckoned with and that many are going to underestimate. Hawk, of course, is taking credit for putting the two of you together.”

The grin didn’t stay long, he turned serious.

“We’re aware Cape Town has internal problems, problems that you’re going to have to sort as you go forward. You’re going to have tough times as you settle into your new positions. Any time you need to talk all you have to do is call, I’ll listen. As the club’s VP you’re going to find that your friendship circle is going to change. It’s a sad fact but it happens to all of us. Your fellow officers will turn out to be the ones that stick.”

His dad reached out and put a hand on his shoulder and squeezed.

“It’s not an easy job you’ve signed up for, son. Your President needs your total commitment and loyalty and before you say anything, I know he has it. You and Kid are going to be a formidable team the way Hawk and Ice are. I’m so proud of both of you, of the four of you, you are everything Bounty and I had hoped for. The future of the club now rests in your capable hands.”

Ice was the one who answered him.

“Thanks, Dad, it’s great to know you have faith in us to lead the club through the shit that’s once again threatening our freedom. The Foundation is going to be more difficult to handle than the Harrisons were. They were already fracturing when we took them down and Gopal isn’t. He’s like a big fat octopus crouching in India with his tentacles creeping across the world. His organisation has swallowed up a lot of bigger and smaller players in his bid to take over as the world’s ultimate crime boss.”

“While he’s forced to re-think his strategy we need to solidify our links with our allies. We are all under threat and now’s the time to stand together and consolidate. We are stronger together and will be more able to withstand the attack when it comes. He underestimated us once, he won’t again. We need to talk to Kid and the officers and start working on our strategy.” Spider laid out his take on the situation.

“No better time than the present.” Bulldog said and stood.

Ice and the others stood as well and Spider pushed up out of the chair, disguising the slight wince as he put weight on his leg. A glance at Rush assured him his son was still happily playing with his toys.

Leading the way inside he walked into the kitchen putting an arm around his old lady’s waist where she was brewing the coffee.

“Baby, can you put it in a travel mug for me, please? We have to go talk to Kid about some shit.”

Vee didn’t hesitate, she reached up, pulled a travel mug from the cupboard and made his coffee exactly the way he liked it.

“I’ll be back later, baby. What are you and Rush going to do today?”

“We’re goin’ to stay here and relax. I want our boy to settle into his new home.” She smiled at him as she poured herself some coffee.

Surrounding her with his arms he drew her against him, kissing her soft and deep.

“Have a good time with our boy. I’ll be back as soon as I can.” He said softly.

Pressing another kiss to her lips he left.

It was time to confer with his President, his brothers and family.

They had a threat hanging over their heads and the sooner they made plans on how to combat it the better.

They were damned fortunate they hadn’t lost any brothers but they had several wounded, himself included.

Calvin’s wound was the worst but he’d had Glass and Coal to see to him.

Next time they might not be as lucky.

It was time to prepare.

They had to be ready for when The Foundation came at them again.

And they will be coming.

It was a certainty.
