67. Six Weeks Later
Six Weeks Later
Blake
A J had been acting weird all day, and it was making me nervous.
Don’t be ridiculous .
Things were great between us. We’d even made plans to move into a bigger place after I graduated.
It wasn’t hard convincing him to move after sharing his small place for a few weeks. I'd turned his office into a storage room, taken over half his closet, and commandeered most of the shelves in the bathroom.
We worked at the kitchen table and ate on the couch. We were making it work, but it was cramped and it wouldn’t be long before we drove each other crazy.
We wanted something with an open floor plan and a decent sized kitchen for when I learned how to cook. It had to be big enough for us to have a large home office we could share.
And room to grow.
I’d offered to pay cash, so we didn’t start our next chapter with debt, but AJ argued. “The best I can do, and keep my man card, is agree to share the cost.”
“I can live with that,” I said. I wanted to spoil him, but AJ refused to rely on my millions.
I loved him more for it. When I joked about having all this money and no one to spend it on, he suggested donating it, or starting a foundation.
Ideas I’d considered, but hadn’t put into action yet. I wanted to graduate before starting a business venture.
The hostess interrupted the memory when she called AJ's name. At the table, his hand shook ever so slightly as he pulled out my chair.
What is going on? Had I upset him when I offered to buy our house again? Did it make him think he wasn’t good enough for me?
I wished he’d get over that feeling. Andrew Janerek was everything I wanted, and never knew I needed. I did my best to remind him every day.
“Andrew, is everything okay?”
He turned towards me and took my hand in his. “Yeah, why?”
“You don’t seem like yourself.”
“Sorry, I-”
“Here you are, sir,” our server said, interrupting AJ.
Damn it. I want to know what’s going on in that big, gorgeous head of his.
“Thank you,” AJ said, nodding towards the bottle of Champagne and two fluted glasses.
Why the Champagne? It’s too early to celebrate my graduation .
Maybe he got a promotion.
The server filled our glasses and walked away.
“Blake.” AJ shifted in his seat. “I love you.”
“I love you too.” It was easy to say now.
He stood up and took a knee next to me.
Oh. My. God. Is he proposing?
I put my hands in my lap and forced myself to remain calm.
“You’re it for me. I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you do me the honor of being my wife?” He opened the ring box, revealing a gorgeous, sparkling square diamond set in a thin gold band.
My hands flew to my mouth as happy tears blurred my vision.
I nodded and mumbled yes through my hands.
He pried my left hand away.
“What was that?” His dimples popping as he smiled.
He’d heard me, but I was more than happy to repeat myself.
“Yes.” I jumped into his arms. “Yes!”
“Oh thank God,” he whispered as he crushed me to his chest.
“Were you nervous I’d say no?”
“Me? Nah. Terrified maybe,” he answered. His grin showing off his dimples.
The ring fit perfectly when he slid it on my finger. I admired it for a second before wrapping my arms around his neck and kissing him.
The last eight weeks had been a whirlwind of changes. Some good, some bad. The only constant through it all had been Andrew no middle name Janerek.
I laughed as I admired the ring sparkling on my finger. The man I’d called a big, dumb ogre was now my fiancé.
And I’ve never been happier.
