Epilogue
Alex
Three Years Later
The warm salt air fills my lungs as I stand on the balcony, the sun sinking low over the horizon, painting the sky in soft shades of orange and pink. Olivia’s right beside me, her hand resting on my chest, her breath warm against my skin. I glance down at her, my heart swelling at the thought of everything we've built together. It feels like just yesterday that we were navigating the uncertain waters of our relationship, and now...here we are. A married couple, on our first real vacation together.
I turn my head slightly to look at her, catching the way the fading light dances across her face, her eyes bright and full of life. There's something about her, something in the way she looks at me, that always makes me feel like the luckiest man alive. I want to hold onto this moment forever—the peace, the quiet understanding between us, the promise that we’ve made to each other to be here, in this place, together.
Olivia shifts slightly, her hand trailing up my chest to rest over my heart. “You okay?” she asks, her voice soft, a little playful.
I smile, placing my hand over hers. “Yeah. Just thinking.”
“About what?”
“About us,” I say, turning fully to face her now, letting the last rays of sunlight warm my skin. “I don’t think I’ve ever felt more content.”
Her smile softens, and her eyes sparkle with the same affection I’ve seen since the moment we first met. The affection that made me fall in love with her so quickly. She squeezes my hand, then leans up to kiss me—just a light brush of her lips against mine, but it’s everything I need.
“I’m glad we’re finally taking a real vacation,” she says, pulling back just enough to look at me, her eyes shining with something deeper than just happiness. There’s a hint of excitement there too. “I’ve been looking forward to this for a while.”
“So have I,” I admit, brushing a lock of hair from her face. “It’s been a long time coming.”
Her smile widens, and then she bites her lip, clearly hesitating about something. “Actually, there’s something I’ve been meaning to tell you. Something important.”
My brow furrows, curiosity piqued. “What is it?”
She takes a deep breath, her hands still resting against my chest, and I see a flicker of something I can’t quite place in her eyes. “I’m pregnant, Alex.”
For a moment, everything around us seems to slow, the sound of the waves crashing against the shore becoming distant and muffled. I blink, not quite processing the words at first. I pull back slightly, my hands still cupping her face as I search her eyes, looking for any sign that this is some kind of joke. But there’s none.
She’s serious.
I don’t know what to say. My heart is pounding in my chest, my mind racing as the gravity of the situation sinks in. A child. A baby. Our baby.
I swallow hard, my voice hoarse when I speak. “Are you...are you sure?”
Olivia nods, her hands moving to rest on my shoulders as she smiles, her eyes glistening. “I took the test before we left. I thought it might be too early, but the results were clear.” She laughs softly, as if trying to ease my sudden nerves. “I wanted to wait until we had some time alone. Until we were here, just the two of us.”
I stand there, frozen, processing everything. I can feel my heart hammering in my chest, my breath coming faster now. It’s a strange sensation—overwhelming, exhilarating, terrifying all at once. The thought of becoming a father, of having a child with Olivia, is more than I ever thought I’d be ready for.
But as I look at her, standing before me, glowing with the kind of light that only comes from carrying a life inside you, everything clicks. This is what we’ve been working toward, all these years. Building a life together. And now, it’s only getting better.
I finally find my voice, my words tumbling out without hesitation. “This is amazing. I’m so happy.”
Olivia’s smile widens at my words, her eyes softening as she steps closer, wrapping her arms around me. “I’m glad. I was a little nervous about how you’d react.”
I chuckle softly, resting my forehead against hers. “Nervous? I’m...I’m freaking out, Olivia. But in the best way possible.” I pause, my mind racing, before I finally ask, “What now? What do we do?”
She laughs, the sound warm and comforting, like music to my ears. “We take it one step at a time. We’ve been through so much together already, Alex. We’ll figure this out.”
I smile, pulling her in for a long, tender kiss. When we pull back, I can’t help but let out a breath I didn’t realize I was holding. The weight of everything is still settling over me, but in a way that makes me feel alive in a way I never knew I could.
I take a step back, still holding her hands in mine. “I never thought I could be this happy. But now I have everything.”
“You definitely have me,” she replies, her voice soft, full of promise.
I nod, my heart full, my mind finally at ease. “And you’ll have me for as long as you’ll have me. Always.”
She smiles at me, her eyes bright with something I can’t quite name. “I know, Alex. And I’m so lucky. We both are.”
I can’t help myself I lean down and attach my lips to hers, needing to feel contact between us. Needing to know this moment we’re sharing is real. The kiss starts off chaste and with innocent intentions, until Olivia moans into my mouth. With a low growl, I heft her into my arms, wrapping her legs around my waist. Leading her through the small vacation suite to our bedroom, I kiss her the whole way.
When we finally get to the room, I’m pulling clothes off of her as I set her on her feet, wasting no time. Olivia responds with the same fervor and soon enough I’m pushing her naked body down onto the bed and positioning my own above her.
I look between us, feeling the weight of this moment as I align myself with her. My breath hitches as I slowly push inside, savoring the warmth and closeness of her body. The soft sigh that escapes her lips sends a shiver down my spine, and I gently press forward, the sensation of being inside her feeling like the most intimate thing I’ve ever known.
“You’re so perfect for me,” I whisper, my voice thick with emotion as I move with her, careful and slow, letting the intensity of the moment build between us. “I can’t get enough of you.”
She responds with a soft hum, her eyes fluttering closed, her body arching into me. The way she moves beneath me, with such trust and openness, makes my chest tighten with affection. We’re both lost in this, and the world outside of this room feels so far away.
The way she fits around me, how her body reacts, drives me to go deeper, but not too fast. I want to savor this—her, us, this connection. Every inch of her feels like a gift, and I want to show her just how much she means to me with every movement.
Her flexibility, a gift I never take for granted, allows me to bring her even closer. I’m grateful for her, for all the little things about her, and how each part of her seems made to fit perfectly with me.
She’s already breathless, her chest rising and falling with every kiss and touch. The sounds she makes are beautiful, filled with longing and pleasure, but also with a depth of emotion that matches mine. I keep my rhythm slow and steady, wanting to make sure that this is as perfect for her as it is for me.
“You’re everything I’ve ever wanted, Olivia,” I murmur, pressing my lips to hers, tasting the sweetness of her kiss. “I love the way you feel, the way you make me feel.”
Her lips curve into a smile against mine as her hands find their way to my back, holding me closer, pulling me deeper into her. She’s lost in this, too, and it makes everything more intense, more real. We’re not just lovers in this moment; we’re something more—partners, souls intertwined in the most intimate way.
Her body tightens around me, and I know she’s close. I lean down to kiss her neck, my lips grazing her skin as I try to keep my own pleasure in check, wanting to make sure she’s with me every step of the way. She moans softly, and the sound of her pleasure is enough to push me to the edge.
With a few more careful movements, she reaches her peak, and I follow her, completely lost in the moment. The warmth of her surrounds me, and I can feel every part of her as we both unravel together. The connection between us is everything I’ve ever dreamed of.
I hold her close as we come down from the intensity, her body still trembling against mine. My heart is racing, but in the best way, and I know, deep down, that there’s nowhere I’d rather be than right here with her.
“I love you,” I whisper, brushing a lock of hair from her face as I look into her eyes, the words feeling like a truth I can’t deny.
She smiles softly, her eyes filled with the same affection. “I love you, too.”
We lie there together, wrapped in each other’s arms, feeling the warmth of our connection. There’s no rush, no need for anything else. Just this—just us.
