B efore we resume our ride toward the castle to deal with the Elven soldiers, Jaden calls out, “Wyn, with me. I need you.”

Merlara tightens her hold on me, and I turn to understand why my former keeper is acting strangely. “What is it, Merlara?”

“I’m sorry.” Merlara frowns and loosens her grip. “I suppose I’m still protective of you. It’s a residual reflex.”

“I understand, but Jaden is my mate. I want to be with him.”

“I know.” Merlara reluctantly lets me go as Jaden rides up next to our horse and pulls me over onto his saddle, sitting me in front of him.

I sigh and melt into him as I feel his muscular arms wrap around my waist. He is my passionate and fiery mate, and his body seems to burn, only to keep me warm. His heat seeps into my back and where his arms band around my waist.

I feel badly that I might have weakened our bonds by exhausting my magic.

I jump at the light pinch. “I’m not great. I don’t think I will be able to help Eldrin if he has to use his magic on the Elven soldiers. I’m sorry you can’t feel me… I think it’s because I pushed my magic too far and hard,” I guess. “If I had the chance, I would sleep for days.”
