Chapter 5 - Abram

Having placed Nadia in one of my guest rooms just down the hall, I entered my bedroom. I stood by the door listening for a moment but didn’t hear any movement. Walking to my closet, I opened the door and moved the clothes aside.

Reaching to the side, I found the release lever and pulled. The panel at the back popped and opened, revealing the secret room behind it. Entering the surveillance room, I pulled the clothing back into position before closing the door.

Taking out my phone, I dialed Alexandr’s number. It barely rang when his charismatic voice came blaring through the phone.

“Abram,” he said loudly. “It’s odd for you to call this time of the day. Is there an issue?”

I smiled at the walls as I replied in a calm and even tone. “I just wanted to update you on the events of the day. Things went well at the auction. Yet, there was a small adjustment.” Pausing, I thought back to my new agreement with the auctioneer.

Before I could continue, Alexandr spoke. “You did something, didn’t you?” I heard him taking a deep breath before continuing. “Spit it out, man, come on, what happened?”

Shaking my head, I answered in the same tone. “Yes, I did do something. But before we get into that, I wanted to tell you more about the auction.”

“Sure, go ahead,” he replied.

“There were quite a couple of items on auction. But the most interesting one was a young woman.” Before I could explain, Alexandr interrupted.

“No, Abram,” Alexandr huffed. “Please tell me you didn’t do what I think you did.”

“Wait, let me finish. This girl is a Vasilievs. We can use her to bring down her family and the bratva they work for,” I reported in my defense.

There was a long silence before he came back. “Does this mean you brought her home?”

“I have,” I said plainly.

Alexandr breathed out heavily before speaking. “Alright, then, we have to move forward. Do you know which family her family works for? And please don’t mess things up, and keep me updated. Don’t do anything like this again. I know you can contain yourself.”

I was surprised at his reply but appreciated his support. Not wanting to keep him longer than needed, I answered swiftly. “I don’t yet, but I will get it. I won’t mess it up. Then I have one other thing to ask.”

Alexandr sounded slightly irritated with me as he replied. “Ask, let me hear what it is you want?”

Grinning, I spoke calmly, knowing I needed him to think about things. “I want to keep Anton and Akim out of this operation for now.” Taking a deep breath, I continued before he could reject my proposal. “Anton is volatile at times. He doesn’t know how to work with people. And Akim, well, he is a mini version of Anton and tied to his hip. I just want to keep this under wraps for now. I know I can get what we need.”

My big brother burst out laughing. Grinning, I wondered what I said to bring on such a reaction. But it was good to hear him relaxed.

“Alright,” he said once he stopped laughing. “So, only Tasha, Mila, and I will know everything, right?”

“Yes,” I replied quickly. I wanted this conversation to be over. I wanted to start my study of the woman named Nadia.

“I will let you go now, but please be careful, Abram,” Alexandr added.

Nodding, I replied, feeling relieved. It went better than I expected. “Yes, always, I might not come in for a day or so. But I will let you know, or Tasha will. Have a good night.”

I sat down in my chair before the monitors and watched Nadia on the surveillance system. Nadia was unaware that she was being watched. For a bit, she just sat on the bed. Stretching out, I was about ready to call it a night, sure that she would go to sleep soon.

My eyes were closed for less than a second as I stretched, but looking back at the monitor, I saw she was gone. Searching the monitors, I found her sneaking down the hallway to the stairs. Grinning, I felt relieved that I had cameras throughout my mansion.

She moved slowly down to the bottom floor. In the foyer, she glanced through my mail lying on the table by the door. She checked behind the paintings and moved to the dining room to do the same. I assumed she was looking for a safe or something similar, as there was no other reason someone would look behind a painting.

Her movements were smooth and graceful, perfect and precise. She wasted no energy as she scanned the room and headed to the living area. She looked through the bookcase, feeling behind the books. As I watched, I couldn't help but wonder what kind of training she had.

Nadia moved each ornament, studied every family picture, and placed each item back precisely. I admired her accuracy but knew I had to be careful. I wondered if she was a deadly assassin or secret weapon. She moved through the bottom floor with ease but didn’t enter any rooms where the doors were closed.

I had to admit she was seemingly thorough. She kept stopping now and then to listen before moving on. As she headed towards the kitchen, I decided to surprise her. Rising from my desk I wondered if they also used her to seduce their enemies. This made my anger rise as I moved out of my room.

Heading down, I tried to stay as quiet as possible. I found her just outside the kitchen. Coming around the corner, I saw her peeking her head inside. My voice was calm and neutral as I spoke behind her, but I still made her jump. “Are you looking for something?”

She spun around on her heels, lifting her hands to her mouth and catching the scream before it came out. Her eyes were large as she looked at me, stuttering.

“I…, I was looking for water. I, um.., I got lost.”

“Don’t worry, I’m here to save you,” I teased her.

Nadia frowned at me as she responded. “Oh, my savior.” Holding out her hands, she continued. “Lead me to the water.”

I gave a little bow before offering her my arm. She lightly placed her hand on my forearm. “Of course, my lady,” I responded, grinning.

She giggled softly as I led her in putting on the light. “This is the kitchen. You want cold water or maybe some juice?” I asked. Pulling out a chair, I motioned for her to sit. Opening the fridge, I glanced back, waiting for a response.

“Either is fine, thanks,” Nadia replied, looking around.

Taking out glasses, I poured some juice. Placing a glass before her, I spoke softly. “Were you thirsty or battling to sleep?” I watched as she sipped some juice. She lowered her head, looking hesitantly. I wondered if this was all part of her act. If it was, she was better than I thought.

She seemed to be pulling at all my strings. I felt sorry for her even though I didn’t know her. She slid off the chair and glided around the counter towards me. “I’m so grateful for your help,” she whispered, batting her eyes.

My heart fluttered as she smiled at me. Nadia took a deep breath as she stepped closer. “If there’s anything I can do to return the favor…,” she added, licking her lips. My hormones instantly ignited as the blood in my veins heated up.

I fought the urge to pull her closer and seal the deal with a kiss. She placed her hand on my chest as she spoke again. “Just tell me what to do.” I felt my dick coming to life as she made small circles on my chest with her fingers.

A shiver ran down my spine, and I took hold of her hand. I had to stop this. I didn’t know the extent of danger she could hold. I struggled to pull my eyes from hers. Her bright green eyes were magnetic. For a moment, it felt like she was sucking my soul out through my eyes.

Hating my reaction and the feeling of powerlessness that suddenly overcame me, I stepped back rapidly. “All I want is for you to get some rest,” I breathed out, trying to calm my raging hormones. “Can I escort you back?”

Nadia nodded, lowering her gaze and licking her lips. Turning away, I headed to the door. I waited for her to pass me before I turned off the light and followed her back up. She

had a slender, almost frail look. But there were curves. Walking behind her, I could see each one. They perfectly formed her body.

At her room door, she turned and smiled at me as she whispered. “You not joining me?”

I shook my head. “No, get some rest. We’ll talk in the morning.”

I watched as she stepped back and closed the door. Breathing out heavily, I went back to my room. Back in my secret room, I watched as she took out her phone and sent a message. I knew she was sending a text home, back to her people.

Luckily, the auction house owner gave me her belongings, including her phone, before they took me to meet her. Tasha assisted me in placing the chip so that we could track her messages and calls.

Shaking my head, I thought back to Tasha guiding me through the process. It was harder for me as I had minimal technological experience. To me, it was harder than defusing a bomb. But I got it in. Now, we would see if it worked.

Texting Tasha, I asked her to confirm and waited. Once she sent a thumbs-up emoji, I knew we were set. I sat back, knowing I could relax. We would control the information she sent through. I was looking forward to crushing them. Half the fun was the chase, and I was going to drag it out.
