Chapter 56

CHAPTER FIFTY-SIX

HEATHER

“So …” I hummed, tucking my phone into my purse, standing next to Sierra, and sipping on champagne after Christmas dinner. I told myself that I wasn’t going to worry about Dad, but he hadn’t texted me yet, and I was disappointed. “How was your day?”

Sierra drew her finger across the rim of her glass and bit back a grin. “Good.”

I arched my brow. “Just good? Steven didn’t ask you anything?”

On the ride over, Hector had mentioned that Steven was planning on asking Sierra something important today. But I wasn’t sure if Sierra knew about it yet, and I didn’t want to ruin any surprises.

No She looked at me, confused. What would he ask me?

Stiffening because I definitely ruined the surprise, I grabbed her hand and led her across the room toward the leather couch. If I didn’t come up with an excuse or go into further detail, she’d definitely continue to ask me all night.

“Hector said maybe Steven would …”

After sitting next to me, she furrowed her brows. “Would what?”

Give you a contract.

“A contract for what?” Sierra asked.

I scratched my forehead with my red-and-white manicured nails. “To be his submissive.”

She stared at me quizzically.

Sierra had definitely seen and read the contract that I had with Hector, so I didn t know why she looked so confused. She and Steven might ve started their relationship a bit after ours, but they were very close. I had expected they were officially Dom and sub. Hell, Steven had even given her a necklace as a collar!

I peered over at Hector, who chatted with his brother and frowned. He still hadn’t given me one yet.

Usually, in a BDSM relationship, you have a contract that clearly and legally outlines the boundaries of the dynamic, I explained. Apparently, Steven had asked Hector for advice about contracts, which isn t something he s done before.

Sierra’s lips curled into a frown. “Oh.”

I sipped my champagne. “Maybe he’s saving it for another day.”

“Or another girl,” Sierra whispered.

Excuse me? I asked, completely surprised and pissed that she would even suggest that. You d better take that back, Sea. We both know that man is head over fucking heels for you. Don t you even think that there is another girl in the picture.”

She laid her head back against the couch and stared behind herself through the window. “I know, but …”

“But nothing,” I said, crossing my arms. “If that ever happened, you know I would be the first one to”—I made a snipping motion with my index and middle fingers—“chop off his … precious penis.”

A giggle bubbled up past her lips. “I know.”

“He’s just waiting,” I reassured.

“But for what?”

“Maybe he prefers … something else and isn’t sure if you’re ready for it,” I suggested.

Though I wasn t completely sure. This world was so new to me, but there were some things that I realized Hector enjoyed more than others, kinks that I would ve never explored without his guidance.

She chewed on the inside of her cheek. “What else could he be into? He’s relatively open with me, at least about sex.”

I moved closer to her on the couch and gently nudged her shoulder with mine. “I know you’ve wanted a family since what happened a few years ago, but don’t be so hard on yourself. I don’t even know Steven, but he seems really happy with you.”

She frowned. What can it be? What do I need to fix about myself?

Nothing! I exclaimed way too loudly that I caught everyone s attention. After recovering by throwing Steven, Hector, and Michelle a small smile, I cleared my throat and lowered my voice. You don t have to change anything about yourself. He might just be into something different. And there s nothing wrong with you both learning what you re into.

Tears welled in Sierra’s eyes. “I don’t want to be with anyone but him. What do you think he’s into?”

After shrugging, I looped my arm around hers and rested my head on her shoulder. I don t know. You should talk to him about it. Hector is into some more punishment and discipline kind of stuff. It could be something darker that Steven hasn t shown you yet.

Sierra chewed on the inside of her cheek and caught Steven peering at her from the table with his siblings. Once she shot him a small smile, she glanced down at her lap, desperately trying to hold back a frown.

“Stop getting into your own head about this,” I said.

“I’m not,” she reassured.

“You totally are.”

Gulping, she turned back to Steven, who waltzed over this way. I m not.

“Are you okay, love?” Steven asked, sitting next to her on the couch, his arm curling around her shoulders and his worried gaze on her. “You look like you’re about to get sick or cry, or … both right now.”

My lips curled into a small smile because I was so happy that she d finally found someone who cared deeply for her, and I excused myself to give them some privacy. I d just had to open my big mouth and say something when I really shouldn t have.

Phone buzzing in my purse, I yanked it out halfway to meet Hector in the kitchen to see a text from nobody other than … Mom.

Mom: Hope you’re having a good dinner!

I frowned and rechecked my messages from Dad to see all the ones I had sent him a couple of days ago. Nothing else, not even possible text bubbles to dance around the screen. I placed the phone back down and looked up at Hector, who smiled softly at me.

He knew that I had been waiting for my father to text or call me, but he hadn t pushed me to drop it or to text my dad. He had spent all day with me, distracting me from the thought, and I didn t think I could ever be more grateful than how I felt right now.

To me, it didn’t matter whether or not he had collared me yet. I was taking it day by day and slowly realizing that maybe being a full-time submissive for him wasn’t a bad idea.
