Breaking You (Gravity Hill #2)

Breaking You (Gravity Hill #2)

By Taylor Wilson-West

Prologue

In a forest there was a bed tangled in the trunks of four trees. Its mattress was soft, full of feathers, and covered in white. The iron railings met the bark of the trees in a flush fashion, as if the bed were meant to be there. As if it too, grew here.

She was laying on the soft cloud-like bed, peaceful. Like nothing in the world could touch her there. As if the trees were guardians keeping her safe.

It was then that she heard a man’s deep rumble, “you are their salvation, mi hija.”

Suddenly the bed was surrounded by people dressed in sapphire robes. They chanted, some groaned, and she didn't recognize the man speaking to her.

She was scared.

There was a soft whoosh, like something flying through the air, and then cold pain in her neck as she coughed and choked. Panic gripped her tiny little body, and she cried out.

Sobbing, as the knife was sucked out of her body, replaced by a suffocating pressure. A shrill sound invaded her ears as she screamed.

Or maybe it wasn’t her screaming at all.
