Chapter 8

Brick

Trying to ride with a hard-on is nothing I've ever wanted to experience. How I want to pull this bike over and finish what Luna and I started, but I know I can't; I have to be focused. Finding Wendy is important to Luna—more important than me getting my rocks off.

I don't know what it is about this woman, but she just does it for me. Seeing her go from straight-up hard-ass to a soft, mewling kitten is the biggest turn-on I've ever had. I could've killed that asshole who decided right then was the perfect time to come and spy on us. Though I guess I should be grateful. The first time I take her, I don't want it to be in the grass somewhere. I want both of us to be comfortable and ready for as many rounds as our bodies will let us go.

On top of that, if we hadn't stopped, I'm not sure I would have seen Light's text about being able to find something on the CCTV footage. Yeah, it's for the best that we were stopped.

Luna holds onto me as I take the turns and the back roads back to the clubhouse. The second we get into the courtyard and she looks up at the massive building, her eyes light up. Usually, people are amazed that we can hide in plain sight like this, but the fact that she still gets a thrill out of coming here to the place I call home makes me feel good—makes me feel like I'm doing something right.

Neither of us has spoken since we got on the bike, and though I know there's a lot for us to say, I'll wait. Instead, I hurry inside the clubhouse and straight to Light's room. Hook is inside with him.

"What do you got?"

Light turns when he hears me come in, and his eyes settle on Luna, who is right by my side. Usually, we don't discuss club business with anyone who isn't part of the club, but yet again, it's another one of my rules that I'm going to have to break. She deserves to know what's going on just as much as I do; after all, she was the one who was attacked.

"She's good. I'm vouching for her." It's not as far as saying that she's my ol' lady, but it's enough to let him know that I'm serious about her being here and that he shouldn't hold back anything of what he's about to say.

"Told you," Hook mutters under his breath, and I shoot him a scathing look. It wasn't too long ago that he was vouching for Bea. In no time after that, he was claiming her as his ol' lady. The similarities are a little too close to home for me. I don't have time for an ol' lady—not when I have to keep the rest of these bastards in line.

"Get on with it." I snap at Light, who turns back to his computer before pressing a few buttons to get his display to pop up on the flat-screen TV that he has mounted on the wall. His room is decked out in some of the best electronic equipment; most of it is second-hand stuff, but the fact that he's an awesome electrician means he can fix things most can't.

In a flash, I see black-and-white footage of someone running out from the alleyway behind Luna's apartment. I even see my bike parked by the curb, so I know it's the right time.

"Either of you recognize him?" Hook asks, and I lean in a little further just to see if I do. His face isn't ringing any bells, so I look to Luna to see if she's got any clue. She simply shrugs and continues looking at the video.

"He's not familiar, so what does this mean? Do we start canvassing looking for him?" Just thinking about having to do that is really pissing me off. That just sounds like a monumental waste of time. Honestly, I'm not opposed to going back to Luna's apartment and waiting to see if the bastard shows his face again. The next time, I'm not going to let him get away.

Light nods his head but then goes back to his computer and starts fiddling with it. "I thought we might have to do that at first, but then I rewound the video a bit just to see when the guy showed up. Even I recognize this one." He pulls up the image, and clear as day is Daly.

Daly used to run the local street gang, the Seven-Oh-Sevens. Last I heard, they jumped him out and excommunicated him. I'm surprised the man is still breathing, to be honest.

"What the fuck? What is he doing there?" I turn to look back at Luna, and she still looks like she doesn't know what we're talking about. Either she's a very good liar, or she's into some deep shit.

"What connection do you have with the Seven-Oh-Sevens?" This isn't the time for her to lie to me. I really hope she sees that.

She shakes her head. "I don't even know what that is. What is a Seven-Oh-Seven?"

"It's a group of people you don't want to mess with." I think back on the time I had to pull Wendy away from them and threatened any of them if they sold to her again. Maybe that's what happened? But why would that force them to come after Luna? On top of that, what was Daly doing back with them? I didn't know any of his old crew to be the forgiving type.

"So now what? You know who those guys are? Can we go see if they know where Wendy is?" Just the thought of taking her around that group of men sets me on edge. I don't know what they are planning to do, but I know the last thing I want is to start some shit with them. Right now, we have a very feeble alliance. At any provocation, it could come crumbling down, and then the Brutal Chains and the Seven-Oh-Sevens would be at each other's throats. The only problem with that is those guys aren't afraid to go to jail. All of us have already been to jail, and none of us have an itch to go back. It would put the whole club in danger.

No, the best way to do this would be to make this as diplomatic as possible. I'll need to sit down with them and talk this shit out. If they do know where Wendy is, I'm hoping that we can work out a solution where they'll tell us where she is without too much more to it than that. I'm doing a lot of hopeful wishing right now. That's not usually the case when it comes to this type of thing.

"We can't do it tonight. This is going to be tricky. I know these guys. If they even think we are trying to offend them or something like that, they won't hesitate to try and hurt any of us." I watch as Luna's face gets harder and harder. She's about to blow a fucking gasket.

"Tell me you don't really think I give a damn about offending anyone."

"You should. These aren't the type of people that you play around with. If it was just some random asshole breaking into your place, it might be different, but this is a whole gang. We don't know what's really going on here, unless, of course, there's something more that you have to tell us."

She shakes her head again, but this time she crosses her arms over her chest. "I already told you I don't know anyone in that group. I don't even know how my sister would know them."

"Most of their people are known dealers."

"So you think they have her because of something drug-related?" Luna tilts her head at me and squints her eyes.

I already know she's adamant that her sister is clean, but more and more it's starting to look like maybe Wendy fell off the wagon. "I don't know anything right now. None of us do. I'll set up a meet with them tomorrow afternoon."

Luna huffs out a breath before she turns and walks out of the room, leaving Hook, Light, and myself alone.

"Yeah, you're screwed," Hook says but doesn't look in my direction.

"I've had just about enough of this shit. I already told you what she's doing here. You can see it for yourself. Shit is off."

Hook finally turns to look at me. "Yeah, what I see is another victim. Brother, there are victims all over the place. I don't see you breaking any rules for anyone else who gets on the bad side of one of these drug deals. Are we just going to run around saving everyone?"

"I don't know everyone."

Light finally chimes in, "You don't know her. She could be playing you. For all you know, she could be put here just so we can get into a beef with the Seven-Oh-Sevens." He raises his hand when he sees me flinching in his direction. "I'm not saying she is, but you need to make sure you're careful. Don't fall so deep you can't see what's right in front of you."

"I hear you."

I didn't want to. In all my life, things never went well where there was a woman involved. I didn't want to think that Luna could be playing me for a fool, but what if she was? Am I too taken by how she makes me feel to keep myself and the rest of my family safe? Is she blinding me like everyone seems to think she is?
