Epilogue
Sofiya
My mom comes over to spend the day with me, gardening. We’re going to plant the new seeds Dimitri got me.
It’s been a month since the Alek incident. He still hasn’t made any new moves to attack but I know Dimitri is waiting. Alek is planning something.
But in that time, Dimitri and I have worked on our marriage. We still have passion. There’s no one else who I’d rather have touch me than Dimitri. We make love almost every day.
But he has the made effort to not control me as much. We talk more. About life and ourselves. Our childhoods. Fun things like books and movies. He hasn’t disciplined me in a long time, except for the occasional spanking which I don’t mind. In fact, I love them deep down.
Sometimes we’ll go down to his cage and have rough sex like we’re animals. It’s wild and thrilling and I love every moment of it. Other times, we’ll make love in the bed, soft and sweet, content to just be together.
It’s the perfect combination of dark and light.
It’s exactly what I need.
Katya decides to join me and my mom in the garden. Leaving her room is still tough for her but she’s been trying to get out more. Today is the first day she’s been outside the house in years.
She takes in a deep breath. “The fresh air smells good.”
“I knew it would.” I pat the spot on the ground beside me. “Come join us.”
Katya offers me a small smile as she sits down. When I hand her a seed, she looks at me with wide eyes, clearly not knowing what to do. But that’s ok. I’ll help her. Help her get out of her shell more.
Dimitri appears in the doorway of the back door. Our eyes lock. I’m no longer afraid of my husband. The darkness inside him only excites me now.
The two of us have found true contentment.
I’m no longer broken. Instead, Dimitri has helped me become the woman I always wanted to be.
