skyler
. . .
I could tell Capri was in her own world as she hung onto Morgan’s arm and smiled and greeted all the people he kept introducing her to. She played her part, smiling and making light jokes with everyone.
Capri was stunning in an off-shoulder mermaid-style dress that hugged her curves. I helped her get ready and we put on two pairs of Spanx so her small bump didn’t show because of how tight the dress was. Meer was there the entire time forcing her to drink water and eat while her makeup was getting done.
Her hair was curled, with a few pieces pinned up and framing her face. Morgan couldn’t even hide how much he wanted Capri. You would have thought this was his fiancée instead of his actual fiancée, who was back at her place waiting on the next phase of the plan.
Goon stood next to me as he watched Capri and Morgan make their rounds around the gala. Everyone wanted to stop and speak to Morgan. “I don’t like that creepy fuck,” Goon muttered.
Standing next to Goon, I looked like a damn doll. He was not only tall, but so muscular, so he was nearly busting out of his suit as he stood there watching Capri.
“We can both agree on that. Something about him makes my stomach sour.”
He looked down at me. “You ain’t ever been in a room with him alone, have you?”
“Not alone… thankfully.”
“The fuck happened to his ass?” Goon nodded toward Rich, who looked battered.
He had a black eye, and his nose was bandaged up. “Guess he got what he asked for.” I smirked, being turned on that Corleon stepped for me without even having to use his hands.
It fed the soul to my techy heart that he did something like that because of me. Morgan’s hearty laugh pulled me from swooning over Corleon.
Morgan’s hand landed on Capri’s ass while they were in a conversation. The ear piece that we all wore tonight was loud in my ear. “Get that nigga’s hand off my wife’s ass or I’m gonna show his ass who the real fucking mayor of this bitch is,” Meer sneered, sending chills down my back.
His tone was so ominous, and I quickly walked over toward where they were. Morgan looked at me, giving me the look to get the fuck away. “Hey Ms. Browne, I need to pull you away for a second.”
“You’re one of our top clients, so the jet is our pleasure, Mr. Morgan. Mr. Caselli says it would be a pleasure,” a golden brown skin woman with locs spoke to him, holding an iPad in her hand.
Morgan looked at Capri, who wanted to be everywhere but next to his ass. “That sounds wonderful. You do know I have a few friends and business acquaintances flying with me also,” he raised his brow.
“Send us over the itinerary and we will make sure everything is handled on our end. We appreciate your business, Mr. Morgan,” the woman smiled, and looked at Capri. “It was very nice meeting you, Ms. Browne… you are on fire in that dress.” She winked at Capri, while Morgan was giving me the stink eye.
“She’s the star of the show… wouldn’t you agree, Rich?”
Rich avoided eye contact with me as he sipped his drink. “Jesus, Rich… what happened?” Capri asked, not even knowing this man got assaulted by his own car.
“Car accident heading home yesterday… all parties are good.” He was vague with his explanation.
“You sure as fuck don’t look good. We have our district attorney walking around like he got his ass kicked,” Morgan lowered his tone, smiling while he spoke.
All eyes were on him so he couldn’t react the way that he wanted to. “I’m going to go powder my nose,” Capri bit back her laugh, because women always using powdering their nose as the reason to use the bathroom had always been funny to me.
“Alright, don’t be too long. There are a few important people I want you to meet on the way back.” He gave her a tight squeeze, and she quickly scurried away.
We made a beeline to the bathroom and Capri shuttered. “I need my husband now.”
I took one of my earpieces off and handed it to her. “Meer?”
“I’m here, Suga. You alright?”
“Tell her to leave, she don’t got to do this shit,” I heard Cappadonna in the background.
Capri took a deep breath. “I have to do this… whenever he touches me, I feel like my skin is gonna crawl away… I promise I’m alright. He just repulses me.”
“You my wife, Suga… I already know you got this shit. Shake it off, and handle business…you pressure, right?”
“Yes.”
“You killing all those hoes in that room, too… fine ass.” I could hear the smile in his voice. “Handle this so I can come get you and then you can eat your sticky wings.. already picked them up and got them at our hotel.”
“Okay, Meer. I love you.”
“Love you more, Sug.”
Capri took a deep breath, handed me the earpiece and quickly left the bathroom. “You think she’s gonna be alright?”
“She just needed to hear her man… my baby a fucking shark. She got it,” Meer replied. “Make sure that nigga keep his hands off her, or I’m gonna appear.”
“Got you.”
As I opened the door, I almost bumped into Corleon standing there. “Geeky, you look beautiful.”
I blushed. I wore a simple satin slip dress that touched the floor. I lifted the bottom of my dress up. “I wore sneakers.”
He laughed. “Some fire, too. Travis Scott 1’s… I approve.”
“Is Aimee good?”
“Yeah… we handled it.”
Even though Corleon had to be here, he was in the shadows because of how much he resembled his brothers. “There you go… I was looking for you because the app is stalled.” The same woman that was talking to Morgan with the locs came walking down the hall.
It was the way Core looked at her that told me there were some feelings there between them. “Hey… Skyler, right?”
“Yep.”
She extended her hand. “Jeffie… wanted to introduce myself but that fuck was too busy staring at my breast.”
“Men like him deserve hell,” I sighed.
Corleon leaned on the wall, and stared at both of us with low eyes, as we both turned to look at him. “I’m gonna fix the app… I got you.”
“Quickly, because Morgan is trying to bid on the race… riding in the car with Star Vanducci.” She gave him a look, and he leaned off the wall.
“Find me when this all done,” he told me.
I slowly nodded and headed the opposite way to find Capri. As I turned the hall from the bathroom, I was tossed to the floor.
RATTATA! RATAT!
Goon hovered over me before pulling out his own gun, and quickly scanning the room for Capri. “Get my fucking wife, Gerald!” Meer barked into the earpiece, as my heart pounded against my chest.
Corleon and Menace both were ducking, as they made it to where Morgan and Rich were. Big Mike scanned the room, and when he spotted Capri under a table, he ran over toward her. They all reached Capri at the same time before another round of gun shots sounded.
RATATAT RATAT!
Everyone was screaming and running while Goon leaned against a wall and took shots at those shooting on the balcony.
He let off a few shots as he ducked back around the wall, making sure I was now pulled near the bathrooms. As Goon held it down, Big Mike picked Capri up and ran her ass out the hall, while Morgan and Rich were still ducked for cover.
We were at the Lincoln Center, and these niggas were shooting like we were in the hood or something.
“Now I got to pretend to protect this fucking cornball.” Goon let off more shots and headed over near Morgan.
I felt arms lift me up and turned to see Corleon. He held me while he held Jeffie’s hand and rushed us out the exit by the bathroom. He put me onto the floor, grabbed both of our hands and rushed us down the block away from the event.
Everything was happening so damn fast that I didn’t know what went on. “You alright?” he held Jeffie’s face and searched her eyes.
“I’m alright… I think.”
He then held my face and searched my eyes. “You good, Geeky?”
“Hell fucking no I’m not alright,” I blurted, as I rested my hands on my knees to catch my breath. It was like during the entire thing my heart was in my chest and I couldn’t breathe.
“You are going to be alright… just breathe,” Jeffie comforted me as Corleon rubbed my back while I tried to catch my damn breath.
“How are you so calm?”
“Girl, I am Menace Caselli’s assistant… this is light compared to the situations we find ourselves in. I want to know who is stupid enough to shoot this shit up with all these people.”
Core was looking down at his phone. “Fucking Chrome Vipe?—”
His words were cut off when we heard a string of motorcycle engines, before seeing a bunch of bikes coming down Columbus Avenue. I recognized Quameer and Quasim’s bikes as all the Gods locked around the black SUV that had Capri in it.
Quameer pulled around the front and both he and his brother took the front of the SUV. They all moved synchronized as they protected the SUV. Nothing was getting through them to get to Capri. Cappadonna swerved his bike, as he took place on the side of the SUV and Capone was following behind in his car. Cappadonna saluted Core, who returned the gesture.
Inside that car was Inferno royalty, an Inferno princess, and it showed with the way they locked traffic down. A few Gods kept going ahead to clear traffic. It moved like a damn funeral procession.
I was stuck watching how all these men protected this one car with Capri on the inside. Big Mike was in the front as the driver drove with a gun on his lap. I couldn’t see in the back because it was heavily tinted, but I can imagine Capri was back there watching how her man and family showed up for her.
Naheim had rolled the window down and he held an AK-47, and nodded behind him, and there was a car pulling up for us. “Get in the car… head back to the hotel…I’ll bring you home when I’m done.” Core looked at both of us.
“What about you?”
Core smirked. “I’m straight, Geeky… need to make sure my girls straight before anything.”
Jeffie blushed. “Come on Skyler… let’s get the fuck out of here before these niggas come on out and start shooting.”
As we got into the awaiting car, I watched as the SUV turned off the block, and all the bikes followed behind her, as we headed in the opposite direction.
Me: You alright?
Capri: Yes… you got out?
Me: Yes, Core got us out.
Capri: See you back at the hotel.
I put my phone away as Jeffie assured Menace she was safe and told him she was heading back to the hotel. I leaned back in my seat and watched the city pass by, while looking at Jeffie. It was clear that Core had a crush on her, and maybe even me.
Usually, a woman would have gotten jealous with the affection he was showing both of us at the same time, and yet, neither of us did.
Corleon D. Bruster was something else.
