. . .

I knew when I decided to work with the Delgatos over Morgan that I was choosing between two different demons. Morgan was for himself, and didn’t care what happened to me. I like to think the Delgatos had some kind of heart, not even them, I was banking on Forty having some kind of heart to make right on his promise to me.

Ever since Morgan had been in the news, he couldn’t care less about what happened to me. It never made sense why he pulled me out of prison because none of the information he needed I had given to him anyway. All he did was stick me into that condo and forced Stump, a Chrome Viper, to keep an eye on me.

Morgan had his entire head so far up his own ass that he didn’t notice I had left to attend the dinner at Jesse’s house. When Jesse invited me over, I assumed it was because she wanted to get to know the woman who was going to marry her father.

Well, not marry.

Hell, she didn’t need to know if we were really getting married or not. It wasn’t her business.

I didn’t expect for Capri and her friends to show up to the dinner, or for it to turn into the mess that it turned into. Jesse was a terrible ass investigator, and that was worrisome since she was a whole US Marshal. What did she expect to happen when she brought the proof to a Delgato turned Inferno, and a Caselli?

That they would willingly give up their brothers and allow her and her stupid fiancé to call them in? Capri was fucking invincible now that she not only was connected with the DA’s office, but was also married to an Inferno. She had a whole fucking family that would bleed blood to make sure she was protected.

Including her little weird friend that stabbed Jesse in the head. Thank God I was upstairs stealing shit from the safe after Menace and his lookalike left.

All it took was for her to make one call and her man showed up ready to handle everything for her. Capri didn’t have to lift a finger; she was able to leave and escape everything.

Meanwhile I was told to keep my mouth shut or my condo would find itself on fire with me on the inside. When Quameer looked at me, I didn’t feel a damn chill, it was more like a strike of heat as he looked into my eyes with his ominous eyes.

His older brother was worse. Quiet, but we all knew the quieter, the deadlier.

Just like I had quietly came to Jesse’s house, I was on my way back to the condo with jewelry and some cash. I called Forty and he told me to sit tight.

Sit tight?

I could be sitting here waiting for them to haul me back to prison and he said I need to sit tight? What kind of shit was that? How the hell could I even sit still when my freedom laid in the balance?

“Pink looks good on you.” He rested in the doorway, as I sat at the vanity in the hotel we were staying in.

His long legs rested, one in front of the other, as he looked at me. I looked at him through the mirror, his dark skin glistened, his skinny frame left room to move around him in the doorway, but it was his tallness that really took up the entire doorway.

Stump’s locs were almost touching his shoulders, his beard was long, and could use some oil, but he was fine and would do for now. He had been paid to keep eyes on me the minute that I started playing games with Morgan. Guess he thought that he could use someone to spy on me and give him all the information he needed.

Morgan was a fool, and never listened to anyone. All he did was give me some inside dick, which I was proudly riding while he was supposed to be watching me. Stump was in love, and I knew the minute I threw this on him that he would be.

He was a few years younger than me, and still needed to be molded. We happened to be fucking when we both heard the news of Rich being killed and left in his grandmother’s living room.

We both knew that it couldn’t be nobody else except an Inferno God that had his hands on this. No sooner than the news started to circulate, Stump received a call from Rich’s cousin in prison.

Apparently, Rich was the real head of the Chrome Vipers, and his cousin Tookie was just the face. Now that he was dead, he was now the head of the Chrome Vipers, and since he couldn’t do much behind bars, it was left for Stump to step in until he came home.

The minute I saw Rich was dead, I packed my shit and disappeared from that condo, because who said I wasn’t next? Who says they wouldn’t come and kill me and leave me in my damn mama’s living room next to my daughter?

When I called Forty, all he could say was sit tight. A fucking district attorney was dead, and he wanted me to sit tight like nothing happened? I refused to end up in the morgue next, so when Stump offered for me to come with him, I gladly accepted.

A bitch just wanted to feel accepted, and I wouldn’t stop until I got what I was searching for. Morgan had a lot of shit going with the Chrome Vipers, and after they tried to air his ass out at the gala, his ass didn’t give a fuck about me.

I wouldn’t put it past him to fucking offer me up to save himself. Then, he got all this other shit going on in the news, I was the least of his problems. He wasn’t looking for me, and I damn sure wasn’t looking for him.

Tookie told Stump that he needed to make a big statement, and he needed to go after Capri. He said that he needed to take her from Meer… just like they did with his brother’s girlfriend.

Capri made it clear that we wouldn’t be friends, and that she hated me, so the bitch could go for all I cared. As long as these Chrome Vipers knew how to move, I was good.

We needed to come back on top because I really didn’t want to die by the hands of the Infernos and Delgatos.

It was when the nigga that was driving shot out the window and it hit Cappadonna that I knew that I had signed my death certificate. Maybe I should have taken those therapy classes in prison, because why the fuck would I go against them?

“Guess I should brush this wig good before they lower me into the ground. That brownskin chick pointed me out as she was busting her gun. I heard her yell my name as we peeled the corner.”

Stump sighed. “You with the Vipers now… you don’t need to worry about nobody not protecting you, because I’m protecting you now.”

It sounded sweet, and it was something that I always wanted to hear. All a bitch wanted to feel was protection and love. Once upon a time, I felt that when it came to Naheim, and then I don’t know what happened.

As Stump promised this, I wanted to believe him and I wanted to allow myself to trust in him because he was sweet, and just wanted to be the man. I fucked plenty of men that happened to be the man at the time, and then Capone Delgato wiped they ass off the face of the earth.

“Thanks, baby… How long can we stay here though? The city is going to be hot with them looking for us…. they saw my fucking face, Stump.”

I hated his name by the way. Out of all the names he could have picked, why would this nigga choose Stump? If his dick was small, I would have assumed that was the reason for the name, but this nigga was working with a monster.

“Once the heat dies down, we gonna head back to Philly and lay low until Rich is buried… they took one of ours, so we gotta return the favor, and do this shit the right way.”

I gulped, looking into his eyes through the mirror. “I don’t want to die, Simon.”

He sucked his teeth when I said his real name. “I told you about that, Tash.”

“And I told you that I’m different… you said you wanted me, and you wanted this to be real, then the street name’s out the window.” I abandoned the ottoman and walked over toward him, wrapping my arms around him.

“You ready to be a Lady Viper? I’m running shit until Tookie touch down, and even when he touch down, I’m second in command since his brother was murdered and now Rich.”

My brain told me to run when he mentioned two members of the Chrome Vipers were murdered. Meanwhile, the Infernos were taking up whole blocks and moving on like shit didn’t bother them.

Hell, I was in too deep to consider all of this. Like I always did, I would do what was best for me. What happened to ol Stumpy was his business once the Infernos and Delgatos came for his ass.

Tasha would always weasel herself out of a situation with ease. I have done it plenty of times before. The minute he gave me access to some money, I was gonna be like a magician and poof be gone.
