17. Capri

capri

. . .

We walked the streets of Capri, going into the local shops and picking things out. I had gotten CeCe something, since it was both of our name. I wanted to take her here one day when she was older. An auntie and niece moment that we would cherish together. Skyler and Jeffie were both walking ahead and talking while eating gelato, while me and Blair trailed behind them.

“I like whatever it is that they’re doing. They legit seem like besties, but would be fucking the same man,” Blair whispered.

“Blair, sometimes it’s best to keep things to yourself,” I laughed at the way she broke down Core’s situation with Jeffie and Skyler.

She shrugged laughing. “Anyway, are you over your attitude with your husband?”

I sighed. “He came apologizing and handing me his credit card. Meer really didn’t need to apologize because he wants to protect our family. I just think he should think about it before acting on it, and I want to be sure he’s not doing it because she hurt him… you know?”

“Yeah. Tough situation to be in honestly. Meer is level headed before the crazy appears, so give him space to figure out what is best. At the end of the day, he knows what is best for your family.”

“And that is not with his baby mama in the ground. Now, if she turns out to be doing some shit that can harm this family, I will put her in the ground myself,” I whispered as we walked past a group of women.

“And will!” we both slapped hands, as we decided on a restaurant to sit and rest our feet from all the shopping.

Ristorante Panorama Capri was a beautiful cliff side restaurant with stunning views of all of Capri and the water. From where we sat, we could see our yacht in the distance.

Soon as we were seated, we were given menus, homemade crusty bread, and oil with balsamic. I wasted no time sopping up the bread with the oil and the balsamic.

I paused, mid bite, and sat my bread down. Blair put her fork down and looked over at me. “Are you alright, Capri?”

I snatched her hand and put it to my stomach. “I felt something, Blair… I felt the baby move.” Tears clouded my eyes.

For the longest time I thought something was wrong because I never felt anything. Other than flutters, but I started to believe that was more in my head than what was actually happening inside of me.

Blair touched my stomach, moving her hand around and nothing happened. I tried to push my stomach out and shake to see if she would kick and nothing happened.

“Now she wants to be shy.” Blair sucked her teeth.

“Guess she’s not in the mood for her God mother.”

Blair gasped, putting her hand to her mouth and crying instantly. “No, Capri… no… you are not doing this right now.”

I held her hand as we both cried and looked into each other’s eyes. “Blair, you are my sister, and me and Meer want you to be this baby’s God mother… I was trying to wait for the perfect moment to tell you, but ain’t shit perfect about our lives.”

“I promise I don’t take this lightly, Capri… I will love that little girl with everything in me... I swear.”

“Because that is who you are as a person, I know you will.”

Jeffie blew her nose, and we slowly turned to look at her. “I love this for both of you. God mothers are so special and important. I still turn to my God mother for everything, and I’m grown.”

Skyler rubbed Jeffie’s back. I noticed that Skyler wasn’t too emotional. In moments when I thought she would be, she never was. I don’t think I ever saw the girl cry.

“Enough crying… I’ve done too much. I just felt like this was the perfect time to tell you.” I wiped my eyes and grabbed my piece of bread.

Since I wasn’t all that hungry, me and Blair shared a seared tuna, and pigged out on the bread. I leaned back rubbing my stomach while looking out at the beautiful view.

Me: I felt the baby kick.

Hubby: For real?

Me: Yes.

Hubby: I’m about to come to you so I can feel.

Usually, I would send him a laughing emoji back, but I knew Meer, and he was serious as hell.

Me: You can see if she does it again when I’m back. We’re eating now and then gonna head back.

Hubby: Love you, Sug.

Me: Love you too.

We continued to chat and enjoy our meal with the view. After all the hell with Morgan, this was a reward that I needed. Not having to worry about anything until we were back home.

Me and Meer deserved this honeymoon, and it meant even more having everyone with us. We had our moments alone, and then we got a chance to chill with everybody.

Skyler picked her phone up while chewing in the phone. “Uh huh… one sec.” She looked at Jeffie. “Your phone off?”

Jeffie grabbed her phone. “Yeah. Must have died.”

“Her phone died… we’re fine… I promise we’re fine, Core.” Skyler giggled and licked her lips. “Hmm… yes, she’s fine, too. I spoke to her earlier… see you in a bit.”

Me and Blair stared across the table, and I tried to see if I could spot jealousy so I could report back to Meer, but nothing.

“What is going on with you three?” I blurted, needing to hear it from them instead of my brother.

Jeffie laughed. “I’m enjoying a free trip with a man that wanted to take me away with no strings attached.”

“Same.”

“You both know what he wants… will you ever give him that?” Blair followed up with an equally good question.

Skyler blushed. “I never saw myself even considering something like this. Core just… I don’t know. He doesn’t make it seem hard; you know?”

“I have to agree with you. I don’t share, and I’ve told him that in the past… with you, I don’t know, we just click. I don’t get upset or jealous when he’s with you. I’m cool with it. I also don’t want to rush into something because I’m cool with it, you know?” She looked at all of us. “That does make sense, right?”

“Makes perfect sense. I don’t want to rush into it because of Estella. It would be one thing if it was just me, but I have to consider her.”

“Do you worry about how the dynamic would work with bringing her into the folds?”

Skyler nodded her head as she chewed her pasta. “I think it’s easy for Core to say he can handle it before actually meeting her. I love being a mother more than anything, but I be worn the fuck out at times… I’m talking in the bathroom with the shower running crying because it’s hard at times. I guess, I’m scared of giving someone me and my daughter’s heart again.”

I swiped away a tear and Blair shook her head at me. “Sorry… I’m too damn emotional for this. Skyler, I can’t speak for my brother because at the end of the day we’re still getting to know each other. However, Core doesn’t seem like a person that will say anything without knowing he can come through. Also, take your time with it, too… both of you. Nobody needs to decide today.”

“We both don’t know what the future holds, however, if we both decide to enter a relationship with Core, I can promise that I will love and care for Estella like she’s my own. I don’t come from a big family, and we’re all distant. It has always been Core, along with the Caselli’s and they are family to him, but he doesn’t have a family of his own. He’s slowly showing me that you make your family.”

Skyler smiled at her. “Thanks Jeff Bezo.”

Jeffie shoved her. “Skywhore… don’t play.”

Clearly this was little insiders they had together. Whenever Skyler, Jeffie, and Core were together, all they did was laugh with each other. It was how Core looked at both of them. He really cared for them.

“I miss Aimee,” I blurted.

Aimee ended up going home so she could be with Rory. She and Capella weren’t in a place to come hang out for two weeks together. Things were still tense with them both.

“Me too. I tried hard to convince her and she said she wanted to get home to Rory. Made me feel lowkey bad about ditching Estella for two more weeks,” Skyler laughed.

“Don’t even feel bad… you are having fun and celebrating your birthday.” I smiled at her.

They brought us some sparkling lemonade that was so refreshing while we waited for our bill. Skyler leaned forward with Core’s credit card in her hand, and she slapped the metal card onto the table.

“Let’s see which one she picks up and that’s who is covering lunch.”

Jeffie laughed. “We put our man’s card down… you two chicken?”

I dug into my purse and slapped Meer’s black card down. “Oh, he y’all man now… okay?”

Blair went into her card holder and pulled out Quasim’s card, putting the third metal card onto the table. “I ain’t never been scared.”

When the waiter came, we explained, and she smiled as she decided on which one to take. She picked up Core’s card and we all laughed and slapped hands.

When we made it back to the yacht, I spotted the jet skis that were waiting by the lower deck. I was jealous because I knew I wouldn’t be able to ride, and I lived for some jet ski action. Meer was waiting at the bottom deck smoking. When he saw his riding up, he put out his spliff and came and helped us all on board.

He had his locs pulled up and wrapped up in a scarf. I loved whenever he wore his locs wrapped up. With a pair of sweat shorts, Birkenstocks and a tank top, he was comfortable. Soon as his eyes landed on me, he gave me that signature smirk that had always told me that he was trouble.

Back then, I never knew what kind of trouble, so I stayed away. It wasn’t meant for me to know what kind of trouble he was. Quameer Inferno was that good trouble. The kind where you knew they were bad because they would turn you into a fool for them.

The kind of lovesick fool that had you up at three in the morning making their favorite meal because it was what they wanted. The kind of lovesick fool that pulled those walls down and allowed them in.

Meer had me like a lovesick puppy. Something I swore I would never be for a man again. After my divorce I had bottled my heart up and refused to fall into softness when it came to a man. With Quameer, he showed me that I could be soft because he would be the hard for us.

God, I love this man.

I was the last one and he pulled me into his arms kissing me on the lips and grabbing my ass. He smelled like Oud mixed with weed, and it was my favorite scent. His low eyes took me in, and I pulled away because I already knew where his mind was heading.

“You ready to get your ass spanked on the jet skis?” Core came outside, and both Skyler and Jeffie looked at him.

“We racing on the jet skis?” Skyler got excited.

Jeffie held her hands up. “Hell no… I already get motion sick. I’m going to soak in the bath and take a nap before dinner.”

She tried to walk past, Core pulled her back, and she looked up into his eyes. “You really gonna let me lose some money?”

Jeffie looked at Skyler. “Tagging you in, Skyler… win Big Daddy some money.” She broke out into laughter before standing on her toes, kissing Core and going inside to her room.

Skyler tried to walk past Core, and he grabbed her up. “We gonna win… I know what I’m doing.” She cupped the side of his face as he kissed her on the lips.

“Holding you to that… go put your bathing suit on.”

Quasim came down from the top deck with a sandwich in his hand. He looked at Blair and winked at her. “You familiar?”

“I am, and I can promise I’m going to beat you and one of your other half,” she bragged as she walked up the steps and Quasim turned to watch her ass.

“You heard her,” he smirked and followed behind her.

“Oh, you got us fucked up, Blair… let me go and change.” Core held Skyler around the waist and followed her inside while me and Meer stood there.

“You can race if you want. I’ll watch you from here.”

“As much as it would feel good taking money from them… I wanna spend time with my baby. We have the second deck to ourselves, and I had the chef cook us some food, light some candles, and I wanna rub your stomach until I feel Rayce kick again.”

“She’s stubborn.”

“Like her mama and big sister.”

I pinched him. “I am not stubborn.”

Meer held my bags and my hand as we walked up to the top level to our room, and I slid the door opened and gasped. There were champagne colored balloons hanging over the bed with pictures attached to them. The TV was on a loop with a slide show of pictures of us. Selfies that we had taken together, and mostly selfies of me during my travels that I would send him.

When a screenshot of us over facetime came onto the screen, I was a ball of a mess. I remembered that night more than anything. Meer had called me when he got in, and I had been flicking his lighter missing home.

He said a stupid joke that caused me to snort so loud and, in the screenshot, he took, I was mid laugh. Back then, I would have yelled at him because I looked so crazy. As I stood here with him, the picture was perfect. It showed him laughing at my silliness, and always the person to put a smile on my face, even when I wasn’t in the mood.

The surround sound played “I Think I’m In Love With You” by Jessica Simpson, and I turned back to the TV, and it was a TikTok video of him and Peach dancing to the song. They were dancing and making a heart with their fingers.

Quameer kept looking at Peach to follow what she was doing, and then he did a spin around as he pretended to sing as he pointed to a picture in the background, and it was of me. Gams moon walked into the video and Peach was trying to show her how to make a heart with her fingers.

Tears poured down my face as I watched my family. They were mine, and I would end everything behind them.

Quameer stood there smirking. “Brandi put Peach onto this song, and she said we should make a video for you since I’m in love with you.”

I walked over toward him and roped my arms around his neck. “You wanna know something?”

“What’s that, Suga?”

“I don’t think…. I know I’m in love with you, Quameer.” I pushed my lips against him as he hugged me tightly and then I gasped. “She’s doing it again.”

Meer nearly tossed himself onto the floor to feel, putting his head against my stomach with both his hands. “Oh fuck… she kicked.”

Tears clouded his eyes as he looked at me. “Thank you, Sug.”

“For what, baby?”

“Giving me this… allowing me to experience all this with you.” He kissed my stomach a few times. “Daddy loves you, Rayce… you gotta get in formation with your big sister Ryder with these videos.”

I held his head as he kissed my stomach feeling like this was a dream. Any minute I would wake up with my pillow soaked with tears because I wanted this so bad for myself. Meer’s lips on my stomach reminded me that this wasn’t a dream.

God had blessed me with my dream man.

My husband.

My Meer cat.
