Chapter 2

CHAPTER 2

Morgan

I grabbed a bottle of water from the refrigerator and threw it into my bag. I heard voices and an open door in the hallway. Leaving my room, I walked a few steps to the elevator and stared at the man with his arm around a lovely young blonde woman. It was him.

“Hi.” He smiled as we waited for the elevator.

“Hey.” The blonde woman smiled.

“Hi. It sure is hot here,” I said.

“First time here?” Rick asked.

“Yes. I just got in.”

“I would suggest the beach as your first activity of the day. That’s where we’re heading,” Rick spoke as the three of us stepped onto the elevator.

“Good idea.” I smiled.

I stood there and watched them as they kissed. As much as I wanted to get a picture, I couldn’t. I followed behind them down to the beach. The white sand and turquoise water diverted my attention away from them, but only for a moment. After getting settled, Rick and his mistress walked into the ocean. Pulling my phone from my bag, I opened the camera, zoomed in, and started snapping pictures. Before long, they were far out, holding each other and kissing. I needed a better view, so I left my lounger and walked a few feet over. Standing at the shoreline, I switched to video mode, zoomed in, and started filming. When I heard a voice from behind, I turned around and wasn’t prepared for what I saw. Three men with muscular bodies, six-packs, ray-bans, and smiles that would knock any woman off their feet.

“What?” I asked.

“You’re blocking our view of the ocean, but we’re not mad about it,” one of them said.

“I bet you’re not.” I rolled my eyes, moving over because I knew they were staring at my ass.

I got what I needed and was out of here for now. I needed a drink and to check out my cabana by the pool.

I found cabana number eight and set my bag down. A lovely man walked over, welcomed me, and handed me a menu. I could get used to this.

“I’ll have a banana daiquiri. Tell the bartender not to go light on the rum.” I smiled.

Staring at the pool that stretched wide, I took in the waterfall and basket swings off to the side, along with the other cabanas and daybeds surrounding the area, with palm trees and green foliage that wouldn’t let me forget I was in the Caribbean. It was beautiful, and I had never felt so relaxed.

“Your drink, ma’am.” The server smiled, handing it to me.

“Thank you. Can I ask you a question?”

“Of course.”

“Why isn’t anyone here? This pool should be packed with people.”

“It’s our slow time.” He smiled .

“Ah. Well, good for me.” I grinned, sipping my daiquiri.

I stepped into the warm and tranquil pool as the sun beat down on me, swimming around and taking in the beauty of it all. Peacefulness fell upon me, and I enjoyed my swim until I heard a man’s voice.

Roman

“Let’s go check out our cabana and the pool,” I said to my brothers as I stood up from the beach lounger.

We grabbed our things and headed to the pool area.

“Which cabana are we?” Julian asked.

“Number nine,” Parker spoke.

We set our things down, and I smiled when I saw the woman from the beach in the pool. I scanned the area for a man—perhaps her husband or boyfriend—but she was the only one in the area besides us.

“How’s the water?” I shouted out to her.

She turned around and looked at me.

“I guess you’ll find out when you get in,” she said.

“Is that the chick from the beach?” Parker asked.

“She sure is, and I saw her first, so the two of you need to back off.”

“Why do you have to be like that?” Julian hooked his arm around me.

“I mean it, Julian.”

“Fine.” He sighed.

“Technically, I saw her first and pointed her out to you,” Parker said. “But, I’ll let it slide this one time.”

I walked down the steps and into the pool, feeling the hot sun beating down my back. I needed to get a better look at her, so I swam closer .

“I’m surprised there’s no one else in here,” I said.

“The guy told me it’s their slow season.” She swam away to get her drink, which sat on the edge of the cabana next to ours.

“Looks like we’re cabana mates.” I smiled.

“Lucky me,” she said, and I noted a hint of sarcasm.

“Are you here alone?” I asked.

“Yes. Are those two your boyfriends or something?” A smirk crossed her lips.

“Those two are my brothers.”

“A family trip. How cute.”

“We’re here for a friend’s wedding.”

“I bet it was nice. If you’ll excuse me, I would like to drink my banana daiquiri and swim in peace.”

“Sure, okay.” I swam over to my brothers on the other side of the pool.

“While you were hitting on that woman, we ordered you a Bahama Mama,” Parker said.

“Thanks.”

“What did she have to say?” Julian asked.

“She told me she wanted to drink and swim in peace.”

“Ha. She burned you, bro.” Julian laughed.

“Is she here by herself?” Parker asked.

“Yeah. She said she was. But I’m not worried. I’ll spend one night with her before we leave.” I stared across the pool at her.

While we were sipping our drinks and enjoying the pool, a couple arrived and sat in the daybeds in front of the pool. I watched the beautiful woman climb out of the water and grab her phone from the cabana. She held it up, and I suspected she was photographing them. My brows furrowed as I stared at the couple. They were the ones she was watching down at the beach .

Climbing out of the pool, I snuck up behind her in the cabana and looked at her phone. Sure enough, she was zoomed in on the couple.

“What are you doing?”

She jumped, turned around, and placed her hand over her heart.

“Jesus Christ. What the hell is wrong with you?” She smacked my chest.

“Ouch.”

“You just don’t sneak up on people like that.”

“I’m sorry. Why are you photographing that couple? Do you know them?”

“That is none of your business. Get out of my cabana.”

“Maybe I’ll walk over there and tell them you were watching them down at the beach and how I just caught you taking pictures of them.” A smirk crossed my lips.

“Don’t you dare.”

“Then tell me what you’re doing.”

“Absolutely not. Now, leave.”

“Okay. I know I’d be pissed if someone was secretly taking pictures of me, except if it were you, of course. Maybe they’ll be understanding, though.” I began to walk away, and she stopped me.

“Wait.”

She removed her sunglasses and rubbed her eyes. When she looked at me, I was caught off guard. Not only was she around five feet seven inches tall, with long sandy brown hair and a killer body, but her baby blue eyes completed her.

“I’m working,” she said, staring at me.

“Working?” My brows furrowed.

“See that man over there?” She pointed.

“Yeah?”

“He’s married, and that is not his wife. ”

“Oh. The wife hired you to spy on him, didn’t she?” A smile crossed my lips.

“Yes. So, I need you to leave so I can continue to do my job.”

“You’re a private investigator?” I asked.

“Something like that.”

“Tell me your name, and I’ll leave you alone.”

“Morgan.” She sighed.

“It’s nice to meet you, Morgan.” I extended my hand. “I’m Roman.”

“It’s nice to meet you.” She placed her hand in mine, and I swallowed hard. “Can I get back to work now?”

“Of course.” I smiled. “One question, though. Have dinner with me tonight.”

“No.”

“Why not?”

“Because I’m working.”

“You’re not working 24/7, and you have to eat.”

“I’ll eat. Don’t you worry about me.”

“How long are you here for?” I asked.

“The rest of the week.”

“Us too. Mark my words, Morgan. Before we leave this place, we will have dinner together.” I walked out of her cabana and over to mine.
