Chapter 35
CHAPTER 35
Morgan
“A daughter.” My Uncle Louie smiled. “Your dad would be so happy right now. He always talked about when he had grandchildren one day.”
“I know. I miss him so much, Uncle Louie.”
“I know you do, sweetheart.” He hugged me. “So do I. Watching that baby grow into a fine woman will surely be great.”
I broke our embrace and stared at him. “What do you mean?”
“I’m moving back to Los Angeles.”
I placed my hand over my mouth in shock. “You are?”
“Yep. As much as I like New York, I miss it here. I miss the salty air, the beach, the ocean, the palm trees, the warmth.”
“Did you find a place already?” I asked.
“I found a house online that I’m going to look at tomorrow in Pacific Palisades.” He smiled. “I do believe it’s not too far from where you and Roman live. ”
I was ecstatic that he was moving here. He was more than an uncle and a friend—he was my second father.
Two Months Later
Today was the day Roman and I were going for another ultrasound. I couldn’t wait to see how much our daughter had grown. Glancing at my watch, I noticed that our appointment was in an hour, and I was worried Roman wouldn’t be back from court in time.
“Uh, Morgan,” Julian said, opening my office door. “I know your ultrasound is today, but Roman is sitting in a jail cell right now.”
“What?” I stood up from my chair. “Why?”
“Contempt.” He grinned.
“You smiling right now is fucked up.” I grabbed my purse. “We need to be at the Kind Medical Center in an hour!” I stormed out and headed to the police station.
I walked into the station and up to the desk.
“Morgan?” I heard Simon’s voice from behind. “Hey, what are you doing here?” He smiled.
“Roman is in jail, and I have an ultrasound appointment in thirty minutes.”
“Contempt, again?” he asked.
“Yep. That’s what I was told.” I sighed.
“Come with me.”
He took me back to where Roman was being held. I stopped and stared at him, shaking my finger.
“You knew our ultrasound was today, but yet, you still went and pissed off the judge! ”
“I know, and I’m sorry, babe. He was in the wrong, and I had to let him know.”
“You couldn’t have waited and did it another day!”
“I already paid the fine. They’re just waiting for the paperwork to go through, and then I’ll be out of here. I’m really sorry.”
“You get your ass to the medical center the second you get out of here.” I pointed at him.
“I will. I promise. I love you.”
“I love you too.”
I left the police station and headed to the medical center.
“Hi, Morgan.” Georgia smiled, walking into the ultrasound room. “Where’s Roman? I thought he’d be here today.”
“He’s on his way. He got held up in jail.”
“You mean he got held up at the jail,” she said.
“No. He was thrown in jail for contempt.” I sighed. “He should be here soon.”
“Do you want me to wait a few minutes before performing the ultrasound?”
“Nope. Let’s get started. If he misses seeing his daughter, that’s on him.”
“Okay. Just relax. We all know men do stupid things. God knows that Jackson has done some really stupid things in our relationship.” She smiled.
Georgia squirted some gel on my belly and pressed the transducer down, moving it around. When I saw my baby on the monitor, I smiled brightly.
“Aw, look. She’s sucking her thumb.” Georgia grinned.
The door opened, and Roman ran in.
“I’m here, babe.” He ran over and grabbed my hand.
“Hello, Roman. How was jail?” Georgia smirked.
“Hi, Georgia. It was eventful. Look, babe. She’s sucking her thumb. I can’t believe how much she’s grown since the last ultrasound.”
“She’s growing right on schedule and looks good.” Georgia grabbed a small towel and wiped the gel off my belly. “I will see you two next month.”
Roman hooked his arm around me, and we walked out of the medical center.
“Where’s Ollie?” I looked around.
“I sent him home.”
“Why?” I glanced at him, furrowing my brows.
“Because you have your car here, and there was no need for him to stick around. I told Olivia I’m taking the rest of the afternoon off to take my beautiful girlfriend shopping.”
“But you’re swamped with cases.”
“I know, and I’ll get to them later. Right now, I want to spend the rest of the day alone with you.” He smiled.
“You’re still trying to make up for almost missing the ultrasound appointment, right?”
“Yep.” He sighed as we walked to my car.
I silently smiled because I was so in love with him that I couldn’t see straight.
After we shopped for a while, we went home. While Roman was in his office working, I put on my bathing suit and jumped in the pool. After doing a few laps, I wiped the water from my eyes and saw Roman standing at the edge in his swim trunks, staring at me.
“Care for some company?” he asked.
“I would love some.” I grinned.
He climbed into the pool and wrapped his arms around me.
“We need to start thinking about names for the baby,” he said .
“What name do you like?” I asked as my arms wrapped around his neck.
“I don’t know. I think the name Madison is nice. We can call her Maddie. Is that what everyone called you before your name change?”
“My dad called me Maddie all the time. Madison Hamilton. It has a nice ring.” I smiled.
“It sure does.” His lips met mine. “The movers are coming tomorrow to move the furniture out of the room, and then my brothers and I will start painting the walls this weekend.”
“Are you sure you know how to paint?” I asked. “We can hire someone.”
“I can paint a room, babe. Why do you doubt me?” A smirk crossed his lips.
“Because I’ve never seen you do anything handy.”
“Ouch.” He chuckled. “Don’t worry. The nursery will look beautiful once we’re done with it.”
