Choose Me Over Justice
Chapter 1
Scorpion stood by the window in his fourteenth-floor penthouse a cigar in his hand. He liked the rainy weather which was as chilling as his attitude. "What went wrong," he asked his right handman.
Stinger watched his boss a slight shiver in his backbone.
He couldn't tell if it was from the chill of the rain outside or the man standing with his back right in front of his eyes.
He chose his words carefully not knowing when his life would be on the line.
"Drakko's men kidnapped her before our men arrived.
When our men got there they were apprehended by the police. "
Scorpion stared at the rain yearning to stand in it for hours but he knew that could never happen. He would get sick at the exposure to any extremely chilly temperatures. "What does this mean Ramon?" He asked casually as he took a seat on his desk.
Hearing his boss mention his real name. The chill in his body intensified but he remained composed. Scorpion could see it in the twenty-one-year-old's black eyes. The fear was evident but he masked it like a real man.
The reason why he took in Ramon to work for him was how efficiently he operated. He was keen to detail and as loyal as a fish to the sea. "It was a set up, the men in badges will be here snooping around any minute."
Scorpion gave a hearty laugh, his eyes gleaming with mischief. "Let them come, my boy. It's been a while since the feds paid a visit to my house. We have a lot to catch up on."
He wasn't surprised by the Scorpion's reaction. It was expected. He was always a composed man who enjoyed a bit of thrill here and there. "You may leave and Ramon my boy make sure you prepare everything to welcome our guests warmly. We wouldn't want them to think we are rude."
Stinger walked out of the home office and went downstairs to the rest of the men. When they saw him walking out of the lift they all stood. Scorpion was the head of the group while Ramon was his stinger and each of them in that room knew.
If one day Scorpion was gone they knew who would take over in a heartbeat. "We have friends coming over we need to get ready to welcome them. Everyone ensure all your places are 'clean'. Get to work!"
The Bratan Gang was the most organized syndicate in the underworld where each one of his men had the necessities in the best ways.
Their families were well taken care of and identities were always concealed to avoid blackmail from their enemies.
This made the men loyal to him as he paid them what they deserved and in turn, he got their unwavering support willingly.
"Search the entire building!" I order. I arrived at the Scorpion's nest after a tip-off that the prime minister's daughter was abducted by the gang.
My eyes scrutinized the room around me detail by detail taking in the surroundings in my photographic memory.
"Who is in charge here? I asked. There were around ten men in the room who turned to stare at the black-haired boy who looked like he was in his early twenties.
Judging from how he commanded a lot of respect in the room I could tell his presence is important.
The Bratan gang was a group that laid low under the pretense of a security firm.
Evidence of crimes they were accused of was shallow or deemed invalid to arrest any of them.
Either they were too careful or too clever and concise.
My men came back one after the other reporting no signs of the prime minister's daughter or any illegal contraband.
"There is nothing Chief!"
The boy whose onyx eyes hadn't left mine ever since I came in. "Hey! Come here!"I ordered.
He took slow deliberate strides as he made his way towards me his expression remaining calm.
"The top most floor of this building has not been searched, who has access to it?
" I inquired. His eyes never left mine as he motioned for me to follow him not saying a single word.
If he was my subordinate he wouldn't have dared disrespect me when I asked questions.
I followed him to the lift as he pressed three five on the buttons.
The ride up was filled with an uncomfortable silence figuring the boy a few feet away from me wasn't a talkative person.
I assessed him quietly noticing how the young man's looks were quite striking.
With his shoulder-length black hair and penetrating onyx eyes, his lean-built body with a bit of muscle showed he was an acquaintance to the gym.
His movements were stealthy, his presence imposing and intimidating.
With the years I had of experience, I could pass him for an assassin.
We got to the top floor where there was a biometric system that scanned his identity and the doors slid open.
He pointed to the door at the end of the hallway and turned leaving me to find my way.
When I opened the door it wasn't closed to my surprise.
The sight before me would probably haunt my dreams for a while.
There he was, with his back faced towards me while he watched the city.
He was in a white towel draped around his waist, water dripping from his hair down his shoulders which glistened in the afternoon sun.
His tattoos, a work of art outlining his whole back crafted with wings.
He smoked a cigar, smoke surrounding him, giving him an illusion of a true work of art.
"Detective Williams, how nice of you to visit my humble firm. Are you in need of any weapons for your latest case?" he questioned. I could detect a hint of sarcasm in his voice which was deep and raspy making my insides turn in delight.
"Mr... I didn't quite catch your name," I said. He turned facing me with those grey stormy eyes while he released a whisk of smoke.
"I didn't give it detective!" His voice low and dangerous.
