Prologue
PROLOGUE
In the second half of the twentieth century, there were two industries dominating Southern California: aerospace and entertainment.
This is not a story about aerospace.
By 1980, approximately 230 million people got in their cars each week to pay $3.50 to sit in a crowded, dark theater and experience the thrills of a movie with a group of strangers. The films—romances, mysteries, musicals, and thrillers—were driven by stories and peopled with stars.
In order to hire the stars, one needed to get to their agents.
And in order to become an agent, one needed to break into the club.
This is a story about breaking in.
