The Omega Shortage

Many years ago, a horrible virus cut across the lands, killing out millions of omegas. It destroyed families and wrecked whole packs. Birth rates dropped, and fewer children presented as omegas.

Since only the gentle presence of an omega could keep a group of alphas settled and focused, packs began falling apart and alpha-aggression reached an all-time high. They attacked one another unprovoked, destroying property and killing innocents without any remorse. Driven by their instincts to claim a mate, lone alphas roamed the cities and the surrounding countryside, trying to find a wayward omega to claim as their own.

Desperate to protect their kin, families began lashing out at any unknown alpha that approached their home. Life was violent, unpredictable, and terrifying for everyone, regardless of their dynamic.

The country fell into chaos.

Left with no other choice, the government stepped in, enacting the Omega Confiscation Act.

Academies were created all over the country, providing a safe place for omegas to live and grow until they were old enough to be mated. A thorough screening process was put into place, and only the most stable and sophisticated packs could be trusted to claim the omegas.

Small packs of alphas and betas started to form again, and the country began to heal.

But many alphas refused to bow to the new process. They rebelled against the intrusive interviews and endless paperwork, deciding to turn to the black market to provide them with a mate.

The Morder is one of the largest and most heavily attended markets in the northern territory. Snatchers find unmated omegas through any means, kidnapping them and selling them to the highest bidder.

This is a story about one of those omegas.
