Chapter 32

32

Antonio

I ’ve called Vivienne’s number precisely fifty times. It rang the first twenty times, and then her phone became unreachable. Luca and Angelo aren’t answering, either.

Something’s wrong.

Anger swells in the pit of my stomach, mixing with the panic that engulfs me. This is what fear feels like—the thought of losing Vivienne is enough to drive me insane.

Lorenzo strides into the living room. He looks frantic as hell as he holds out the tablet to me. “The CCTV in the area shows they arrived at Peter’s place,” he says. “Two hours later, it shows two of Peter’s cars driving out of the same road.”

My intestines twist into a knot as I play the video. I can see Vivienne in the backseat of the black Mercedes they left with, but I don’t see a glimpse of her in her father’s S.U.V.

It’s either she… No, it’s not possible. Even an animal won’t bite their offspring. There’s no way Peter would hurt his own daughter.

I pick up my phone from the coffee table and call Peter. It rings three times, but he doesn’t answer.

“I think that’s all the proof we need,” Lorenzo says. “If he took her, then there’s a chance he knows where Salvatore is, and he had something to do with Dante’s death.”

I nod in agreement. “That’s right.” I quickly pull up the tracking app I have on my phone. It shows they’re headed towards an abandoned port on the outskirts of the city. I put two and two together, and it all makes sense.

This is a plot to lure me out. Salvatore is definitely still in New York, and Peter—that son of a bitch—is willing to sacrifice his own daughter for whatever their mission is. I wonder what he gets out of whatever deal he has with Salvatore.

“We can’t waste any more time. Get the cars and the men ready. We’re going for a hunt.”

Lorenzo’s brows furrow. “I can go, boss. It could be dangerous if you?—”

“Those bastards have my wife, and they could harm her. I won’t sit down and wait around like a fucking coward when my family is in danger,” I growl, raging at the fact that he could suggest something so ridiculous to me. I don’t care if I die as long as I know Vivienne and our baby are safe. That is all that matters to me. “Get the car ready, we’re leaving.”

“Yes, boss.”

Lorenzo starts to leave, and I call Dario.

Dario answers on the first ring. “Brother.”

“Salvatore is still in New York, I’ll forward the location to you, but I need you to do something first.”

“Shoot. Anything.”

“Have some of your men search Peter’s house. Luca and Angelo are down; try to save them if you can.”

I hear Dario shout orders at his men immediately to search Peter’s property before he returns to the call. “What are you going to do now?”

“They have Vivienne. I have to go get her.” I run up the stairs to the room where I keep my weapons and pack all I can. Knives, as many guns as I can strap to my holster, and bullets.

“Do you need me to do anything?” he asks, his voice heavy with concern.

“If you can, make sure no one leaves the city tonight. Especially not Salvatore or any of his allies.”

“I’ll do that, man. Be careful.”

“Thank you.” I hang up and pack a few more weapons for my men.

By the time Lorenzo comes upstairs again, I have a bag full of everything we need. It will take hours to get to the Port, but I know Peter and Salvatore won’t touch a hair on Vivienne before I arrive. She’s a bait to get to me, after all. A weakness.

But that is where they’re wrong. To me, Vivienne is a source of strength. I’ll walk through fire for my wife.

And I won’t be coming back home without her.
