Chapter 24-y

T houghts of last night filtered through my mind in a dreamlike haze that whispered of a world I’d only imagined in my wildest fantasies.

Ono had come at me with single-minded focus. Like he was driven by one purpose and one purpose only—to fuck me into a stupor.

And I was happy to report he did.

Three times.

“You comfortable, Wife?” my husband asked, sitting his hulking frame right next to me despite the completely empty private airplane.

“Mm hmm,” I said, wiggling a little in my seat.

Truth was, I was a little sore.

He’d been insatiable last night, driving into me almost ruthlessly like he was determined to try to meld us into one being.

Right now, he was preoccupied, working on his laptop. I’d decided to take the time it would take to fly home to nap, relax my ever-questioning mind.

I had a meeting with the hospital board in a few days to go over what I was planning with the new lab Ono set up for me.

I still could not believe it. I wasn’t sure what it all meant yet and had every intention of making this thing work.

Yes, Ono had sent me the document his lawyers and experts had prepared when they’d brought his proposal to the hospital, but I still needed to look it over.

I had a long way to go in my career before I was worthy of the opportunity he’d given me, but I was beginning to think I might enjoy the business side of running something like a lab to improve medical devices needed in pediatric surgery and therapy.

I already liked the idea of it more than I enjoyed being an actual surgeon.

Lucky for me, I had time to figure it out.

The threat of having to move to a new hospital was gone now, as for my apartment. Well, my husband had already solved that. Something I had only found out earlier this morning.

G od, this man.

How could any one person be so perfect?

“Um, what happens when we land?”

“What do you mean? We get our shit and go home,” he replied, looking at me like I was crazy.

“Yes, but where are we going to live?”

“Oh. The brownstone.”

“My apartment is so small. I’m sure you’re going to hate it,” I scoffed.

“Not your apartment. The whole brownstone.”

“What do you mean? Oh, my God. Ono? You bought it?” I asked.

“I bought it,” he nodded.

“Why?”

“Cause you like it,” he said, the duh was implied.

“How?”

“Well, Wife, my guys have been renovating and moving our stuff all weekend, but if you don’t like it, let me know. I can set up a time with a realtor and we can go house hunting?—”

“Are you crazy? I love that place. But how did you get the owner to sell?”

“Do you really want me to answer that?” he asked, eyebrows raised.

“No, I probably don’t,” I said, imagining the worst.

After all, Ono’s family used to be mobsters. He’d already admitted to killing people, though I doubted old Mrs. Thompson was floating somewhere in the Hudson. Not that I would mind because really, the woman was a penny-pinching bitch.

Oh my God. That’s an awful thought.

“Don’t look so alarmed, Baby. I paid more than what the place was worth, and in cash. Money moves mountains,” he said with a wink, and kissed my temple.

T he man was certifiable. And strange as it sounded, that attracted me more than his gorgeous eyes and sexy grin.

“What’s got you smiling, Wife?”

“Hmm? Oh, nothing. Just thinking about home,” I said honestly.

He smiled back at me. Like really smiled, and dear Lord, it was brighter than the sun coming out.

“I like it when you say that, Doc. I like it when you talk about our home.”

“Yeah?”

“Uh huh,” he whispered and bent his head, kissing me hard before biting my lip.

“Ouch!”

“Now, knock it off before I fuck you right here in front of the flight attendant.”

That threat had me behaving, alright.

An exhibitionist, I was not.

Closing my eyes, I took that nap I’d promised I would take and didn’t open my eyes again until I felt Ono carrying me to the waiting car.

“Hmm? I can walk,” I whispered, but my big, domineering husband just kissed my head and hummed as he placed me gently inside the waiting car.

Once we arrived at the brownstone on Hudson Street, I couldn’t believe my eyes.

Ono must have hired Superman or something because despite it being January, the entire place seemed to shine like it had been power washed and all the odds and ends that needed replacing, polishing, or repainting had been seen to.

“It’s all been done as you said, Boss,” Gio, the head of my husband’s security team, told him as we climbed the stairs to the main part of the home.

“Hang on, Doc,” Ono said, freezing me in place.

“What?” I asked, my foot hovering in the air.

“You know what,” he growled, grabbing my hips and hoisting me up so I had no choice but to wrap my legs around his waist.

My eyes widened, and a smile broke out across my face as I realized what he was doing.

My sexy, and apparently strong as an ox husband was carrying me over the threshold.

“Um, Boss?”

“Later. Everyone, get the fuck out,” Ono said, trusting Gio to follow orders.

And the man listened, hustling the men who carried in our luggage out the door before closing it behind him.

Not that I bothered to watch him or anything.

Nope.

My eyes were for my husband alone. I wrapped my arms around his neck and bit my lip, earning me a squeeze from his big hands.

Ono didn’t stop at the entryway. He carried me like that all the way up the inside set of stairs to the main bedroom.

Our bedroom.
