Chapter 6

Chapter 6

T he next morning, Fenn pushed open the front door of Well Heeled open, sipping his much-needed cappuccino after a very late night arrival back at his apartment. He was happy to scent his friend in their shared space again, having missed it while he was away. Connor was pack, and pack was comfort: something he desperately needed as he sorted through his feelings about Addison. He should have asked her out, but he was worried it would make her uncomfortable to tangle up employment and fun, even considering their little tryst. His mind was still reeling from last night, an experience that felt incredibly transformative, lunar influence aside. Fenn’s eyes finally flicked up from the floor as his vision came into focus, trying to clear the cloudy visions of Addison that never quite left him.

Sure enough, Connor was back behind the front counter, sifting through mail that had arrived in his absence.

“Well, good morning Fennrick. Glad you could make it in.” The amusement in his tone kept Fenn from utterly panicking, but the rare use of his full name made his stomach flip.

“I’m only a few minutes late, Connor, did I forget to do something?” He had done his best to maintain his grip on reality, but all that occupied his mind was Addison.

His boss chuckled, setting down the mail. “Yeah, to unplug the damn admin camera before I ended up with an eyeful of wolfy OnlyFans. I logged in to check the yard last night and saw a whole different side of you.” He held up a hand, cutting off Fenn’s apology. “Don’t worry, I turned it off as soon as I realized it was you. I was a pup once too—no harm, no foul, though you are going to hose down that fence.”

Fenn nodded, hanging his head and rubbing the back of his neck. This kind of shame was way less fun than the sort Addison inspired, though he still found himself floating amongst the clouds. Maybe Connor had turned it off before he realized who Fenn’s partner was.

Addison . He needed to play this cool, make sure Connor wouldn’t question hiring her. “Of course boss, I’ll do that right away. Thank you for…being cool about it. I have good news—I think that the new trainer is going to be a great fit.”

Connor raised an eyebrow, setting the mail aside in a tray. “And did you come to that conclusion before or after she was using your knot as a stress ball?”

Fenn blanched. “Oh. Uh—” Fuck . He really should have remembered about the damn cameras.

Connor levelled his eyes across the counter as he reached for his coffee mug. “You know how I feel about fraternization between employees, but I suppose I could do worse than having a DeWitt on staff. Go ahead and give her the good news.” He took a long sip and glanced at Fenn over the rim. “...pup.”

Another thing that elicited a completely different response when Addison said it.

Fenn coughed awkwardly, instinctually rolling his head to the side to flash his throat in a platonic show of submission. “Apologies, alpha.”

Wait—what was he talking about?

“Addison’s last name is Greene. Did a DeWitt apply too?” Fenn pressed.

Connor plucked a piece of paper off the counter, waving it lightly: Addison’s background check. “Dewitt on her mother’s side, Greene on her father’s. Her cousin’s a full blooded wolf—apparently they were really close growing up. Explains why you didn’t have to have the talk with her, huh? No wonder you two got cozy so fast.”

He tossed the paper in a nearby file drawer and stretched, covering a yawn. “Just be careful, huh? I appreciate you cleaning up after yourselves, but let’s keep shenanigans to your own apartment from now on.”

A million thoughts raced through him. She already knew about werewolves. It made everything that happened last night make so much more sense. His jaw tensed, a fucked-up amount of jealousy brewing as he considered what exactly her cousin had taught her. They were close . Addison wouldn’t—right? No, that was fucked up to even consider. He knew the DeWitts. They were a solid pack and they didn’t mate like that.

He shrugged off the mounting jealousy. Heading to the office and pulling up the landline, he nearly vibrated with the anticipation of hearing her voice again. She got the job. He’d get to see her almost every day. And maybe now she could be more than the woman who saved him from a moon-addled night, she could be his mate.

“Addison, hi!” he said the moment the line stopped ringing. He cleared his throat, trying to get his voice into a more normal register. “This is Fenn, from Well Heeled.”

She snorted, taking a sip of something. “Like I could think about any other guy named Fenn after last night.”

His chest swelled. He was her only Fenn. No, he had to stop being delusional. He hadn’t even made her come yet. It would be wrong to claim her before giving her as much pleasure as she had given him.

He cleared his throat again, trying to remain professional. This wasn’t a personal call, as much as he wanted it to be, and his alpha had annoyingly good hearing.

“I’m calling to inform you that you officially have the job. You’ll be our new one-on-one trainer here at Well Heeled,” he said as calmly as he could, nerves eating away at him. Maybe he’d ruined it last night. “If you still want the role, that is.”

“And do you want me to take the job?” she asked mildly, clearly giving him an out if he wanted it.

I want you, however I can have you. Especially now that I know you know about us.

“Of course!” he said quickly, lowering his voice to hopefully keep it between them. “I think you very much proved your abilities last night. I mean—I’m not asking for you to do that again, if you don’t want to.”

“And do you want me to take that job, Fenn?” she asked, a teasing note to her voice that sent a furious blush to his cheeks.

“I-I mean, I don’t want to pressure you.” He bit at his lower lip, nerves flooding through his entire body.

She burst out laughing, a musical sort of noise that made his head pleasantly fuzzy. “Oh my god, Fenn. You’re so cute. Yes. I like you, too, and I’d like to do more filthy, kinky things to you, knot and all.”

“Oh,” he said, the nerves finally settling, but his cock now hardening. “Great. Then…” He swallowed. “We’ll have you come in for training tomorrow, eight in the morning.”

She gasped dramatically. “In front of everyone, Fenn? I had no idea you were such an exhibitionist.”

His cheeks flamed as he stammered, trying to correct her.

She let out a throaty, knowing chuckle. “I’m kidding, see you then. I look forward to negotiating the terms of your leash…pup.”
