Prologue

Lucian

The inner walls of my office are constructed from black onyx infused with sparkling fire opal, and the flickering candles and torches adorning every wall make it look like they're shimmering with blood.

Tenting my fingers together, I lean back in my luxurious mahogany chair and ponder on the dilemma that has presented itself. My brothers in blood are threatening to invade my realm. They won’t succeed, but it’s inconvenient. I have plenty of willing—and unwilling—servants at my disposal, but it takes time to rebuild and replenish the numbers that would be lost to such a folly.

This is a realm of blood, and I am its master.
