6. Chapter 6
Chapter 6
Tavian
By the time I could get Kier outside and to the car we had waiting, he was a mess. Sweat beaded down his brow and soaked through his shirt. The blanket we had around him barely contained his scent. Plenty of people stared at us as we walked, though. The humans probably thought he was sick, while any shifter around might be able to guess he was going into heat.
I held him around the waist. He pressed against my side. When I got him into the car, he shucked off the blanket and began tearing at his clothes.
Fuck. His heat was moving fast.
He squirmed in his seat like everything was uncomfortable. A desperate moan escaped his lips, and the scent of his arousal slammed into me.
I fumbled for the air-conditioning controls. If I could cool him down, we might be able to make the drive. Or he was too far gone for it to be of any use.
“Just a minute, Kier. I need to get our luggage in the trunk.” We only had our carry-ons. We couldn’t wait for the other luggage. Another clan member would have to gather it for us. I wasn’t sure that we would be able to make it the entire drive as it was.
Kier’s scent permeated the car. I had a white-knuckle grip on the steering wheel as I drove out of the airport.
Kier pulled at his shirt, somehow managing to get it off his body even while his seat belt remained fastened.
“Tav. Dragon. I can’t wait much longer. I’m so... empty.”
My jaw clenched. I refused to look at him. If I did, I could never maintain my control. It was hanging by a thread as it was.
“We have an hour drive, Kier. Hold on.” My teeth ached from clenching, but I couldn’t let my control slip. Kier was counting on me, and I would not let him down. I wanted to reach over and comfort him, grab his hand or something, but touching him right now would be a mistake.
“Fly me there, dragon.” Kier’s hand roved down his torso. He pinched one of his nipples and arched his back.
Oh, fuck. Somehow, he knew all the buttons to push. My dragon wanted to shift right now and take him far away from this place. Far away from the eyes of anyone who might look upon him in this vulnerable state. My omega in heat was for me and me alone.
When Kier unzipped his jeans and put his hand down his pants, I knew we were in trouble. I could only imagine what his hard length felt like. If he brought himself to release in the car, I wouldn’t stand a chance. It might alleviate his suffering, but I would be in torment. We wouldn’t make it in the car. But we could if we flew.
Dragon flight was faster than driving by car.
Decision made, I pulled off the highway into a park-and-ride place.
“Are we there?” he asked.
I chuckled. “Not quite, love. How would you like to see my dragon?”
“People will see. I can’t let you risk it.”
I grinned. Even in his current state he cared for the safety of dragon kind. “We’ll be fine. I can cloak us. No one will see.”
My words seemed to satisfy him. I looked around carefully for anyone, but there was no one. No cameras on the light poles either. Even if there were, our cloaking ability wouldn’t allow our images to be captured. We were safe.
I got out of the car and went around to Kier’s side to help him out of the car. He was like putty in my arms, barely able to hold himself up. Heat radiated off his body, nearly burning my skin with desire.
Finally, I could get him to stand so that I could shift. I shifted to my dragon form, careful not to let Kier fall from where he stood. His eyes widened as he took in the sight of me.
I wasn’t the largest of dragons, but I wasn’t small either. My twenty-foot wingspan was impressive by most standards. Kier’s head was just below my shoulder, and I turned to look at him. My dragon rumbled in approval at seeing our mate in this form for the first time.
“You are so beautiful, Tav,” Kier said. His hand lifted and his fingertips ghosted over my scales.
He was wrong. I was not the beautiful one. He was.
I crouched as low as I could and indicated with my head for him to climb on my back. He did so with more grace than I’d expected. His body was hot against my scales. I wanted to see him, but I needed to focus. I had to get him to my family’s cabin before his heat got too intense. We’d have to get our luggage on a different day. Perhaps a clan member could retrieve the car.
I pushed off the ground and let my wings unfurl from my side as I took to the air. Kier lay hugged against my back, his cheek pressed against my scales. His even breathing showed me he wasn’t scared. I focused on getting us to our destination quickly.
With each beat of my wings, I brought us closer and closer. What would have been an hour drive, took only twenty minutes by air. I flew as fast as I could, while keeping my mate safe.
Almost there, I said to Kier, using my mind.
He bolted upright, and his legs squeezed to keep himself from falling. “You can talk to me?”
Yes. Dragons can talk to their clan members while in this form.
“Oh.”
Brace yourself, I am going to land. I’ll try to make it as gentle as possible.
I glided toward the cabin. There was a round drive for cars to park, and I aimed for the center. My feet hit the ground softly, and I curled my wings closer to my body. It felt good to be in my dragon form after so long remaining as a human. But now that I had let my dragon meet my mate, I wouldn’t be able to hold back.
Kier slid down my body. He stumbled a bit as he adjusted to the ground.
I changed into my human form quickly and took him into my arms.
“Everything okay?” I asked.
“Perfect.” Kier wrapped his arms around my neck and pulled me close. “I need you, Tav. Please. I have to have you.”
“Are you sure? You will be safe here. I can get you supplies—”
Kier clutched at my shoulders. “No. I need you, dragon. You’re mine. Fill me up with your seed. Breed me.” Kier clutched my shoulders and said, “Get me through this heat.”
My chest rumbled. Those words were like music to my ears. I needed that. I needed to know he was sure. He had asked before we even got off the plane, so I knew he wanted this. Still, if he indicated that he changed his mind, I’d leave him alone.
Kier put his hand at the nape of my neck and pulled my face down to his. He put his lips to mine, and he melted against me. I held his hips flush against mine as the scent of his heat overtook me. Now that I knew he wanted this, wanted me, I would not hold back. I would take care of my mate in the way that he deserved.
His taste flooded my senses. The citrusy sweetness combined with the burning warmth of his heat—like caramel melting against my tongue. I framed his face with my hands, not letting him go. Instead, I pulled him deeper. He opened for me and moaned against my lips.
“Mine, dragon. Mine.”
“All yours, wolf.”
He took a step back, his lips lifting from mine. He looked up at me with heat in his eyes. “Show me,” he challenged.
