ISLA
He was asleep.
I poked him for good measure, and when he didn’t stir, I threw off the covers and crept out of bed, grabbing my clothes off the floor. I had to hurry. God knows how long he would be out for.
I really shouldn’t be sneaking out, but I just had to know. Was that couple still there? Were they still going at it? And had they learned any new moves in the last eight hours?
These burning questions were eating me up inside. I felt like I would combust if I didn’t find out before we left tomorrow. I slipped on my boots as quietly as possible, then slipped out the door, turning the knob slowly to keep the door from shutting too loudly. I winced as it clicked shut, but when I didn’t hear him jump out of bed and storm around the cabin, I figured I was in the clear.
I took my chance and ran through the snow, trying to remember my way in the dark. The temperature had dropped significantly since I had been out earlier today and my teeth chattered as I ran in the moonlight. I should have brought a flashlight with me, but I hadn’t exactly thought this through, nor did I know where a flashlight was.
I thought I saw movement in the trees and dropped to the ground with a yelp, shuffling through the snow over to a tree. I backed up against it, staying completely still for a few minutes. I peeked around the tree, squinting through the darkness, but I didn’t see any sign of movement. It was probably a deer or a squirrel. Yeah, a gigantic squirrel made me hide behind a tree.
I snorted to myself, finding the whole thing absurd, and got to my feet. Brushing the snow from my pants, I checked my surroundings again before taking off. It took me longer than expected to find the cabin, and when I did, I wasn’t at all surprised to find another person standing outside the very window I had occupied earlier today.
“That little sneak.”
I should have known Jane would come back. She was way too interested in the couple. I snuck up on her, making sure my footsteps were as quiet as possible. She didn’t hear me coming, not even when I was right behind her.
“See something interesting?”
She squeaked, jumping as she spun around and shoved me backward. I stumbled over a log covered in snow, then slammed into the ground, but it was well worth it to see the anger building in her eyes at being caught red-handed.
“You bitch,” she snarled.
I chuckled as I got up and brushed the snow from my body. “I should have known you couldn’t stay away.”
“You’re here too.”
She was right, but I wasn’t going to let her know that. “Only because I knew you would come here and I wanted to catch you. We pinkie swore we would stay away. I caught you.”
“Yeah, well…” She spluttered, searching for something to say. “You know what?”
“What?” I shot back.
“It’s even better tonight. You should see them going at it.”
I was rushing over to the window as soon as the words were out of her mouth. She didn’t need to tell me twice. With the cover of darkness, I wasn’t quite as worried about them spotting me. Maybe that was foolish. Then again, I was standing outside their window for the second time in twelve hours. The whole thing was the epitome of foolishness.
“Wow,” I whispered as the woman gasped in pleasure. I’d never seen someone so lost in the throes of passion. “It’s like watching a romance novel play out before my very eyes.”
“Right? Like a Harlequin romance or something. But like…without the Highlanders.”
“I always preferred the stories with the prince and the maid.”
The woman tossed her head back, her long brown hair flying over her head in a slow arc that had me mesmerized. It was so sensual and erotic, but had nothing on the way the man’s large hands cupped her small breasts as he took her from behind.
“It’s so ordinary tonight,” I whispered.
“But so good.”
“Do you think they’ll—oh,” I said in surprise when the man suddenly picked the woman up and lifted her in the air. She started bouncing on his cock as her legs wrapped around his waist.
“He’s not even using the wall for support,” Jane hissed.
“I know. That’s some amazing upper body strength.”
“And look at those leg muscles. Talk about amazing balance.”
“It’s like a circus act,” I agreed.
“Do you think they just…try new things every time just to see if they can do it?”
I shrugged, not knowing the answer. “I guess it keeps things interesting.”
“I wonder if they do regular stuff like tying each other up.”
I slowly turned and faced her. “That’s regular stuff?”
“Well, yeah.”
“I don’t tie IKE up.”
She snorted. “Maybe you should.”
“Since when is that regular stuff? Missionary is regular stuff. Doggy style is regular stuff. Any of the other ten or so normal positions is regular stuff. Tying up is not regular stuff.”
“If you say so. I guess your sex life is boring,” she muttered under her breath.
I huffed out in anger. “My sex life is not boring. It’s the opposite of boring. It’s heated and sexy and filled with passion.”
“And ordinary,” she chimed in.
My mouth dropped open in absolute horror. Was I ordinary? Did I need to do weird things like performing circus acts in the bedroom to not be ordinary? And why did it even matter if Jane thought I was ordinary? I wasn’t sure, but it did.
“I’ll have you know that I am not ordinary at all. I do things with IKE that would make you blush.”
“Yeah,” she snorted.
“Like you could do any of these things with IRIS?” I said, pointing to the window. “I’d like to see you in some of the positions they were trying out yesterday.”
“I’m not sure I’m that flexible, but I would be willing to try them out at least.”
“You know what? I’ll make a deal with you. I’ll pick one thing they do and you have to try it with IRIS.”
“Fine, but then I get to do the same. You know, with IKE. I mean, I pick it and you do it with IKE.”
“Deal.”
“Deal.”
We shook on it, then went back to watching the couple through the window.
“This isn’t at all weird, right?” I whispered.
“Just a little.”
“We just won’t tell anyone about this.”
“That’s probably for the best.”
I was so engrossed in watching the couple that I blocked out everything around me, including how long we had been standing there.
“How long can they go at it? It’s been like an hour?”
“And all those different positions…It’s baffling.”
I was more than a little turned on, and that was weird. I shouldn’t be turned on by watching another couple have sex. But I was. I stepped back suddenly, desperate to get out of here and back to IKE.
“I should go. I should get back. I have things to do.”
“Me too,” she said, clearing her throat. “Things…”
We both turned and stopped in our tracks. Two men stood behind us, staring at us. Oh God, had they seen us? Were they watching us watch the couple? Did they know what was going on in the cabin?
“Uh…who are you?” I asked nervously.
Jane groaned beside me. “I’m never gonna live this down.”
“Why? What’s going on?”
Another man stepped out from behind a tree to the right. And then another to the left. I was so confused as to what was going on. And then a man stepped forward that I knew.
“Fox?”
What was he doing here? And who were all these other men?
His lips twitched in amusement as if he knew exactly what we had been doing. I blushed bright red and was thankful for the darkness.
“It’s quite late to be out.”
“I wasn’t tired,” I lied.
He nodded, cocking his head at me. “So, you decided to come out for a stroll.”
“Exactly.”
“And you bumped into Jane.”
I looked at her, my mouth dropping open to say something. Anything. “Yes.”
God, that was lame. I had nothing, no explanation that would excuse what we were doing out here in the middle of the night.
“Uh…neither of us could sleep,” Jane giggled nervously. “It just so happened we ran into each other.”
“In front of a cabin?” Fox asked.
We both glanced over our shoulder. “Yep,” I answered, unable to think of anything else to say. Telling him we found a sex-crazed couple to spy on was out of the question.
“Interesting,” he said, his chin tilting up.
I didn’t like the way he said that or the way his head moved. It was all too…questioning. He didn’t believe us.
“So, anyway, we should be getting back.”
“Aren’t you interested in why we’re out here?” Fox asked.
Oh, right. That. “Yes, as a matter of fact, I would like to know.”
“We’re on guard duty.”
Okay, I did not know that. “All of you?”
“Yep,” he grinned. “Been here since you arrived.”
“Since—” I swallowed hard. “And you’ve been…here?”
“In the trees. Hanging around. Watching .”
I nodded slowly. “Watching.”
As in, watching me today as I stumbled around, spying on people. Creeping around to cabins and looking inside. Oh god, he’d seen me earlier when I was spying on this very cabin. He saw me with Jane. And now we were back. He probably knew who was staying in here, too.
“Yep. Watching everything.”
“That’s…interesting.”
Someone huffed out a laugh, but quickly piped down. “Did you see everything you needed to?” Fox asked.
I turned beet red, hoping Jane would help a girl out and jump in to save the day. After all, she knew these men. She could probably handle them a lot better than I was. But since she wasn’t doing anything to help, I decided to throw it to her.
“Jane?”
“Uh…yep. We’re good.”
“You’re sure?” He glanced over his shoulder. “Thumper? You wanna take this one?”
“I think I’m good,” the man said.
Thumper. That was an interesting name. Not that now was the time to get into who was who or their names. So, these were more of the men from OPS. I hadn’t met all of them, and now that I had, it figured it was in a situation like this.
There was a crash from inside the cabin, followed by a very loud moan, very unmistakable shout of pleasure. My eyes wandered toward the sky, unable to look at anyone during this very uncomfortable moment.
Once that was over, Jane sighed. “Well, I think I’ll get back to my cabin. It was a very nice walk.”
“Yep,” I murmured, taking off toward my own. The guys snickered as we walked past them. It was like they all knew what we were looking at—like they were watching right alongside us. I was mortified. I hustled back to the cabin, never so grateful to see those four walls in all my life. As soon as I was inside, I hurried up and ditched my winter gear, then shed my clothes and crept toward the bed.
A light on the table in the corner clicked on, illuminating the room and IKE as he lounged in the chair.
I pressed a hand to my chest as I tried to calm my racing heart. “Jesus, IKE. You scared the crap out of me.”
He stared at me, his eyes roaming over my body. “So…find out anything interesting when you were out tonight?”
