Chapter 6

Rae

I quietly crept down the hall into the kitchen for a glass of water when the woman from earlier blocked my path.

Fucking hell.

“Hey! I’ve been looking for you,” she bit out, snapping her fingers at me. “Don”t think I haven”t seen how you were looking at Ghost. What”s going on between you two?”

My eyes narrowed at her audacity.

Wow. She wasn’t mincing her words.

Moving around her into the kitchen, I placed my back against the sink to keep her in front of me. I wasn’t a dummy. Daisy was clearly looking for a fight.

“None of your business.” My words felt flat as I worked to maintain my calm. There wasn’t anything going on between me and my boss. Not really. I’d felt a vibe, but it was stupid to get possessive over a man I’d just met, but there I was, ready to square up and put my job at risk.

Daisy’s face twisted sourly, her eyes narrowing into slits. “Bullshit. You think you can just waltz in here and take what”s mine?”

I scoffed at her arrogance.

He’d made it clear what he thought about her, and if she had any self-respect, she’d move on to someone else.

“You think that’s funny, little girl? Ghost is MINE, and if you think a country hick like you can take him from me, you got another thing coming.”

“Is that right?” I laughed. She was delusional.

“You bitch!” Her hand flew towards my face as she screeched. I sidestepped, letting her momentum carry her past me into the counter.

“Skank.” I sighed. “You don”t want to do this,” I warned, my southern accent strong.

I should have walked away, but her claiming Ghost as hers made that hard.

In a flash, she shoved off the counter and rounded on me. Her hand shot out again, her aim to grab a fistful of my hair.

Here we go.

Lifting my arm, I blocked her attempt, then caught her wrist and twisted it behind her back. She hissed out in pain.

“Enough,” I growled into her ear. “I don’t want to hurt you.” But I damn well would defend myself if she kept pushing.

“Let go!” she shrieked as she struggled. I tightened my hold. “Ghost will see right through you, you fake-ass whore.”

“Uh, huh. That’s great. Now cool your jets, you’re making a fool of yourself.” I wondered if she realized how desperate she looked. Her breathing came hard and fast, while mine remained steady.

Her body deflated and thinking she was through, I released her, watching as she stumbled back, and the fight left her.

“Stay outta my business,” I said, my voice low. “Next time, I won”t let go.” As I started to turn, she lunged again, catching me off guard with a fist to my face. My head whipped to the side from the impact.

“You fucking cow,” I growled, using the back of my hand to shove my hair out of my face. Carefully I pressed my fingers to my cheek and winced at the contact.

This bitch…

In a haze of red, I lunged forward, my body colliding with hers as I took her to the ground. Moving quick, I straddled her chest and let my fists fly. I vaguely heard her screams as I swung over and over again, beating the ever-loving shit out of her.

“Ghost!” she shrieked, clearly expecting him to storm in and rescue her.

Ignoring her screams, I reared back and threw my fist into her nose, enjoying the crunch as it broke. Blood gushed out and I smiled at the carnage. “You’re fucking insane!” she cried.

“Yeah, and you’re the bitch that came at me.” I pulled my hand back to hit her again when the sound of heavy boots came barreling through the swinging door and a strong hand wrapped around my wrist.

“Son of a…” Ghost”s gravelly voice cut through the screams. My head shot up, my blue eyes connecting with his chocolatey browns. In a flash, he hauled me to my feet.

“Shit, look what she did to Daisy,” I heard someone mutter, a chorus of agreement following.

“Damnit, Rae,” Ghost growled. “What the fuck are you doing.” I dropped my head, suddenly embarrassed for my actions. I couldn’t believe I’d been so easily baited. Ghost’s hand went under my chin, and he lifted my face. His eyes went straight to the spot on my cheek.

“I was defending my honor,” I whispered, breathing heavier as the adrenaline began to wane. I looked away when Daisy was pulled to her feet, blood pouring from her nose.

“Your honor, huh?” Ghost stepped even closer, a grin cracking through the shock.

Was he… smiling? My eyes narrowed. He had a lot of nerve finding anything about the situation funny, after his whore attacked me.

“Something like that,” I bit back, squaring my shoulders. I wasn’t taking the rap when she was the one who came after me.

“Never seen anyone put Daisy in her place before,” someone piped up from behind Ghost. There was respect there, a note of amusement too.

“Guess there”s a first time for everything,”someone else chimed in.

“Enough,” Ghost commanded, his eyes locked on mine. “Back to business, boys.” His command sent the bikers scattering, but I caught the glances thrown my way and the nods of approval.

“You. Let”s go.”

“Me?” I squeaked as he latched onto my hand and dragged me out the door. Ghost stormed down the narrow hallways, unfazed by the onlookers. “This isn’t my fault,” I defended as he shoved open a bedroom door and pulled me inside.

“Whose room is this?” My arms went around my middle.

“Mine. Now, sit,” he demanded, pointing to the edge of his bed. My ass went down. I wasn’t in a place to argue when he’d just caught me brawling.

“Fucking fighting with a club whore,” he growled under his breath as he paced the floor. Back and forth he prowled before suddenly stopping in his tracks and pinning his eyes on me. “What the hell were you thinking, Rae? She could have hurt you.”

I scoffed, running my fingers through my tangled hair. There wasn’t a chance in hell that twig could have bested me. Strutting around in three-inch heels with her ass hanging out. Hurt me? As if.

“You think this is a joking matter?” He moved closer. “I get wanting to stick up for yourself, Rae. Fuck, if you were anyone else, I’d encourage it around here, but you’re responsible for my little girl. What kind of example do you think fighting with a club whore sets?”

My back snapped to attention. What the hell was that supposed to mean?

“Maybe you need to talk to your girlfriend then.” My eyes narrowed. “She was the one who ambushed me, over you,” I snapped back, heat creeping up my cheeks. How goddamn embarrassing.

Ghost’s head tilted to the side as the corner of his lip tipped up in amusement. “Over me?”

I crossed my arms over my chest, watching as his grin transformed into a smile. Of course, he thought that was funny.

“Look, I”m not proud of my behavior. I’ve got a bit of a temper when backed into a corner, okay? I’m sorry. Just... please don”t fire me.” I avoided his eyes, focusing on the worn carpet beneath my boots.

“Rae.” His voice lost its humor as he kneeled down in front of me. “Look at me, baby.” My cheeks warmed as I lifted my face. “You think you”re gonna lose your job over some catfight?”

“It wouldn”t be the first time I ruined a good thing.”

“You haven’t ruined anything, babe. You’re not going anywhere. Not unless you want to.”

A frog formed in my throat. “Really?”

“Really.” His rough hand found mine and he squeezed. “You handled yourself in there. Showed that you”re one of us. I”m impressed. Hell, you fought better than some of the women who ride. Fuckin” hellcat is what you are.” His lips tipped up. “But, baby, if she’d hurt you.” He growled, the grin falling as he shook his head.

I swallowed hard as his eyes flicked to my lips then back. I could feel the heat growing between us before his hands landed on my thighs. “Can I kiss you?” His tongue swept out across his bottom lip.

“Yes,” I whispered, my panties growing wet when his lips quirked up. His hands slid up my thighs and gripped onto my hips. He leaned in as he pulled me closer, his big body wedged between my parted legs.

His eyes flicked between mine as he dipped his head. Slow and deliberate, his lips pecking against mine once and then again before his mouth covered mine. My chest rose and fell rapidly. His tongue flicked across the seam—a demand for entry—and unable to deny him, my lips parted, and he slipped inside.

I whimpered when one of his hands left my hip, slid up my back, and into my hair where he squeezed and used his hold to tilt my head and expose my neck, while the other slid around and up to collar around my neck. My eyes rolled into the back of my head when his fingers flexed in an unmistakable display of possession.

Fuck, that was hot.

Releasing my mouth, his soft lips skated across my jaw and nibbled at my earlobe, sending a jolt to my core and causing me to whimper.

“Oh, God,” I moaned. I’d been kissed before, but never had it felt like that. Ghost didn’t just kiss me, he owned me.

In that moment, I wanted him more than my next breath.

“So fucking responsive,” he growled, tightening his fist in my hair and using his hold to pull my body back onto the bed.

“Spread your legs more,” he whispered. before fastening his mouth back to mine. My thighs parted and his hand went to the button on my jeans. With expert fingers he flicked open the button and lowered the zip. My breathing accelerated when his hand slipped inside my pants and beneath my panties.

“Your pussy’s soaked,” he growled, circling two fingers on my clit. “Gonna let me fuck you, Rae?”

“Please,” I begged. I wasn’t a virgin and it’d been far too long.

“Gonna let me eat this pussy, baby?” His fingers slid lower, teasing at my entrance.

“Yes,” I hissed, arching my back, and lifting my hips, begging him for more.

“Tell me what you want, sweet little Rae.” He pressed his fingers inside.

“Ghost,” I moaned. He was driving me crazy. I needed more.

“Not yet, sweetheart.” His teeth raked down the column of my neck. “It’s been months and I’m taking my time.”

Heat flooded through me, every nerve ending on fire as he sunk his teeth in the side of my neck, then sucked hard on the tender flesh at the same time as he pushed his fingers all the way inside me.

He was marking me—in more ways than one.

My hands clenched in the leather of his cut as my back bowed provocatively, my hips rolling as I rode his hand.

Lord help me, I didn”t want him to stop.

A knock rapped from the other side of the door, and he pulled his mouth away with a pop.

“Shit,” Ghost groaned, dropping his forehead onto my heaving chest as his fingers continued to play.

The knocking came again.

“What?” He lifted his head and shouted over his shoulder as his thumb slid onto my clit.

“Shit,” I hissed when I felt my orgasm approaching. I was so close.

“So fucking sexy,” Ghost said calmly, at the same time my fists clenched in the covers, my back arched, and I came long and loud.

“Ghost!”

Before either of us could move, the door swung open, and there stood Pop with a smirk on his face. “Son,” he said, the accusation clear without being said.

“Mind your business, Pop.”

“You alright, Rae?” Pop”s voice was gruff but edged with humor. My cheeks were boiling when I looked over to find him standing in the doorway with Payton on his hip.

“Oh God,” I groaned.

“Not God, baby.” Ghost chuckled, making Pop bark out a laugh.

Damnit. What the hell had I just done?I wasn’t there to fuck my boss; I was there to earn a living.

Releasing the hold I had on the covers and planting my hands on his chest, I gently pushed. He pulled his hand free from my pants and moved back without a fuss. I jumped up and quickly refastened my jeans.

“This isn’t over,” Ghost leaned in close and whispered in my ear.

My eyes shot up to his, then quickly moved over to Pop. “Here,” he said, offering me the lifeline in his arms.

“Thanks,” I mumbled, taking her from his hands and kissing the top of her head.

“Sorry about all that ruckus,” I said, rocking Payton back and forth. “It won”t happen again.”

“Oh, darlin’,” he started, a chuckle rumbling deep in his chest. “You ain”t losing your job over Daisy. That one needed to be brought down a few pegs. Come on, let’s get some food in ya.”

“Thanks, Pop.”His arm went around my shoulder as he turned me toward the door. I glanced over my shoulder at Ghost, cheeks flushing when I saw the promise in his eyes. He wasn’t going to let what happened between us go, and truthfully, I was excited to see what he’d do next.

“I think this is going to work out better than I hoped,” Pop mumbled under his breath.

“What?” I glanced up waiting for him to clarify.

“Nothing.” He grinned.

I shook my head. He was up to something.
