Hesitation

Hesitation

E bby keeps putting off leaving France. She realizes that much of her hesitation is linked to Robert. To the way he is with her. To the way he treats his grandpa, even. But it’s more than that. She likes waking up in the morning in this cottage by the river. And she’d rather wait for Hannah to come back. She’d hate to miss the trips they’d planned to take together. But if she doesn’t leave France now, she will have to call her parents and tell them that Henry was here, before they get wind of it from somewhere else.

Three weeks have gone by, already, since Henry left. Ebby picks up her phone and scrolls through to her mother’s number, then remembers that it’s still the middle of the night in Connecticut. There is nothing that Ebby can do right now anyway.

So she sits down to write.
