PARIS
BY EDEN ELLIOT
How you sang to me from the stage
(I’m not even sure you recognized me
So in your head I wasn’t even there)
How I remember every crack
In your voice
Every trembling breath
How your eyes looked for mine in the crowd
And held on to the mirage of me across the stadium
How they clung to me like a lifeline
As your voice wailed about cruel Saint Hope
Meanwhile I was writing poems in my hea d
And remembering the days
When I would play your songs by myself
Back when I was nothing to you
How it was like listening to a friend every night
During my darkest moments
How you were always there, like before,
How you were saving my life, like before.
How watching you struggle on that stage
(I’m not even sure you recognized me
So in your head I wasn’t even there)
While looking for me
In your darkest hour
I make a decision: It’s time to save yours.
