4. Margo
Chapter 4
Margo
I wakeup, staring up into the broad white ceilings that were set above me. I feel a wave of chills brush through my skin as I lean over to my right.
I hear a soft breathing pattern next to me as I jolt up from the comfortable bed, my eyes widen at the sight of a Greek god’s back muscles that I very much want to touch.
But before I could gawk over him, I realize that the reason I feel such a cold breeze is the fact that I am completely half naked.
I pull the blankets toward my body before turning my head gently over to Liam who’s only shielded in the first lining of the covers.
I can’t help but smile at him, thinking maybe there’s a reason why God led us to each other. Or maybe because I’m so desperate in wishing not to get engaged, I look at him like he was a thrown lifeline by God himself.
Liam fidgets, turning his body towards me but still sound asleep, I let my hand slightly graze his toned arm, then moving closer to his chiseled jawline.
Maybe he is a lifeline thrown by God, or maybe he’s just a random rendezvous that God needs to send me before I do need to get engaged.
I’ve been trying to put it off for the whole summer, but the truth is, time is ticking, and it’s been kind and reasonable to me.
Liam’s hand softly lands on top of mine, caressing it near his mouth before kissing my palm, “Good morning, Raine.”
“Charming…” I respond as he sits up, still holding my hand, he looks at me, up and down and suddenly my face feels like it’s scorching red.
“Go back to sleep.” I laugh gently as he sends me a wrinkled eyebrow, “I have to get going anyways, my parents are probably worried sick.”
Liam rolls his eyes, “No chance I can go back to snoozing, you woke me up from my beauty sleep.” He addresses before smiling.
“We’re both just lucky that I’m already good looking.” He further makes a point while leaning closer to my space slightly to emphasize how good looking he was.
Leave it up to Liam to be the cockiest person in this universe.
I send a sneer over to him as he laughs for a moment, Liam stands up, walking towards the kitchen, still in only a pair of sweatpants that hung so low I could see his happy trail.
I can only stare and admire this man, even if he was cocky, he had reasons to be, he had the money, the looks, and basically everything a man desires.
Everything is at the reach of his hands. Including me.
“You’ve already taken up a majority of my time.” I assert while slipping on my dress and strapping on my heels.
As I see Liam’s reflection from the window, his eyes stayed directly on my body, making me shiver.
I turn my head but not my body, “You like what you see?” I ask with a devilish smirk as he coughs out.
“You’re not the only good looking one in this room, Charming.” I proclaim.
As I finally turn my body to face his, he was leaning onto the fridge, a bowl in his hand and a spoon on the other, “Maybe not.” He says calmly.
I walk towards him, his eyes stayed on mine as I came closer, tilting my head before looking up at him, now yes, I consider myself pretty tall, I’m five foot, seven inches.
But Liam towers me at a height of six foot, two inches.
“You want some?” He asks as I look at the box of Fruit Loops that sit out on the counter and a carton of almond milk.
“Almond milk?” I laugh with a questionable tone as he shakes his head, “I’m lactose intolerant!”
I can’t help but burst out laughing, I take a small peek of Liam’s face, in which ends up looking irritated.
I start to walk away but before I knew it his hands wraps around my waist causing me to still. It was like he could scoop me up with one hand, he probably could.
Liam pulls me closer, flush to his body I could feel his rock-hard abs, and his hands squeezing my waist.
“Fuck Raine, you are a vision .” He whispers in my ear, causing goosebumps to spread all across my body.
“I’m not falling for whatever you are trying to pull, Charming.” I reason as he larks gently, “I’m not pulling anything, I assure you.”
I take a deep breath before turning my body to face him, his hands still not releasing my waist as he leans back, “I only came here last night because I didn’t want to talk to my parents, don’t think it’s because I remotely think––”
Before I could finish my sentence, he silences me with a frenzied kiss. I leaned closer than is conceivable, catching his lips. Liam grips my waist tighter pulling me into a clumsy impact that intensifies as he draws me in.
I moan into his mouth, feeling my heart race harder than I thought was even possible.
I feel my body heating up, as well as his, we both pull away at the same time, out of breath I look up at him, “Liam we can’t––”
He shakes his head, “––Margo, I’ve never felt that way when kissing someone, you make me feel electrified, fuck I don’t want to stop.”
I lick my lips, his hands shaking as well as my body, hoping for more of his touch but now he was hovering over me.
“All you have to say is you don’t want it and I will pull away, and you can leave.” He alleges as I bite my bottom lip.
I didn’t know what to say, nor did I want to stop whatever was going on between the two of us. This was a summer fling and I had about a week before I could never have one ever again.
Why should I say no now?
I sigh, pulling away from him I make my way over to the side table, grabbing my clutch, continuing to walk towards the door, I open it looking back at Liam’s smug face.
“What? I have to change my clothes; I can’t be seen wearing the same thing twice.” I signal to my slightly dried clothes as he beams.
“I’ll meet you by the beach in an hour?” He asks so full of hope, it’s cute.
I smile, “Bring Vodka, like a good boy.”
Then I slam the door shut.
“ Y ou are so noisy!” I whisper pretty harshly at Liam who thought it was a magnificent idea to climb up my villa’s window.
“I didn’t know that your window would be so fucking creaky.” He stresses as I fold my arms together with a horrid scowl.
“I don’t even know why you thought it would be a good idea to climb up when we were supposed to meet by the beach.”
He looks at me with his soft, brown, puppy dog eyes, “I missed you so much already.”
I can’t help but laugh at him, his gorgeous face.
“You couldn’t wait another twenty minutes?”
Liam shakes his head frantically.
Since Liam so graciously climbed up to my room, I feel bad that I have to break the news that he wasn’t allowed in my room.
God forbid my mother ever found him in here I would be toast. He’s not the ideal eligible bachelor my parents are thinking of to marry me off to.
They want someone responsible and can handle a relationship, Liam’s a man that’s been plastered all over newspapers and blogs about being a major playboy of Hawthorne.
“You don’t miss me?” He questions me with a wild smile that could make my knees buckle.
“No, I don’t, I just saw you forty minutes ago.” I snap back as he places his hand over his heart like he had been told Santa wasn’t real.
“You are so cruel to me, Raine.” He wipes a fake tear away from his face, “I thought we had more than this, I thought you were it for me.”
I stare at him blankly as he looks around my room, suddenly his character fades as his curiosity strengthens.
The first place he appears to be drawn to is my piano, my guitar stood next to it on its stand, “You have a lot of sheet music here.” He picks one up while looking at me.
I nod, “I like to write songs… make music.” I fiddle with my hair as he grins, “Write a song about me.” He suggests as I let my brown eyes furrow.
“Be careful what you wish for Mr. Brookshire.” I say softly as he winks, “I don’t care if you Taylor Swift the shit out of me.” He notes.
Before looking down at me he whispers, “Don’t forget when I told you I like everything that comes out of your mouth, especially if it has anything to do with me.”
I felt my hands begin to shake as well as my heart race.
Liam leans down, I could see that he was begging for a kiss and I can’t lie saying that I wasn’t as well. I wanted to melt on to him, if I just let myself.
As I place my hand on the nape of his neck, my lips so close to his I could feel the warmth, the doorknob rattles uncontrollably.
My body jolts, without even thinking about it, Liam’s body crashes into my big pile of clothing, “I’m so sorry baby,” I send him an apologetic smile before shutting my closet doors close, slamming his nose he curse quietly.
“Maggie?” I whip my head around, facing my father who looks at me with a grinning face.
“Dad.” I address as he takes a seat on the couch, “Where were you last night?” He demanded the question, and it wasn’t optional to answer.
“I needed fresh air, so I ended up falling asleep by the beach cabanas.” I quickly thought of as he sends a questionable scowl.
“That’s dangerous, a girl like you could have ended up in someone’s not so delicate hands!” He stands up looking frantic and worried.
“Yes, and I’m sorry but I’m here now, see?” I lift both my hands up in the air, “I am alive and very well.”
My father looks at me before smiling, he comes up in front of me, embracing me in his huge arms.
“Dad!” I laugh as he takes his hand and messes up my hair, “I love you, Maggie.” He whispers, “Don’t ever forget that.
“I won’t!” I pull away with a beaming smile that sends him to roll his eyes.
Everyone always tells me I have a face that was very expressive, I displayed exactly how I was feeling.
“And don’t forget the dinner tonight with the––” My eyes widen what the rest of his sentence was probably going to be.
“––Yes! I won’t forget, I will be there.”
I suddenly push him out of my room in a hurry, my heart racing at the mere idea of Liam over hearing about my arranged engagement, well… not engagement yet… but soon.”
As soon as the door shuts, I turn to look at my closet, seeing it open suspiciously slow, Liam’s broad figure appears slowly as the shadow pulls away from his face.
I can’t help but giggle at his irritated expression, his hand on his nose, must be from when I slammed the door shut.
“I’m sorry?” I shrug my shoulders sheepishly before he runs up towards me looking vengeful, “Oh you are so going to pay for that.” Liam throws me on the bed.
Laughter and chuckles shoot themselves out of both of us. We can’t help but want to be near each other’s presence.
Liam was on top of me, his hands around my waist once more it was like they were made to fit there, he tickles me as my eyes widen in genuine fear.
“Don’t!” I say with a violent warning as he smiles, “Don’t what?” He bends his head lower.
And there his hands went, tickling me as I start to squirm and break free, but it was not a possible outcome, “Liam!” I hack as he ends up laughing and rolling next to me.
“My nose needed vengeance.” He mutters as I stare up at the ceiling waiting for my body to regulate and calm down.
I roll up, my arm holding up my head as it rested.
My eyes can’t help up gaze at his breathtaking face, he was perfect in every way shape or form, had I just not realize it?
It was weird to say the least.
“What is it?” He asks as his hand comes up at the nape of my neck, “It’s just weird.” I swallow.
“How?”
I shake my head, “I hated you; I just did because well… Grayson and Anna hated each other, and I stand by my best friend.” I reason.
“I stand by Grayson too.” He adds as I laugh gently, “What I mean to say is… I hated everything about the Elite Four, in classes I hated how you used to interrupt me all the damn time.”
Liam turns his head closer to mine, “Everyone hates being interrupted.” And he made a great point of course but it was different.
“I hated the instant smirk on your stupid face, I hated that you were aware that girls threw themselves at you, you constantly belittle them.”
Liam’s eyes widen, “I don’t belittle them!”
“You ignore them.” I mutter as he nods, “Well I can’t give all of them attention, that would be leading them on.”
I roll my eyes at his response, while my hand couldn’t help but play with his dark hair, “Why do you guys keep your hair longer?” I ask as he shakes his head.
“No… don’t change the subject.” He gives me a dirty look to continue as I smile, “It’s nothing…”
Liam looks more alert than ever, “No tell me, I can take it.”
I let my shyness shrivel up as my mouth opens, my hand pulls away from his face, “I hated how you constantly felt that you could simply turn your back away from me without a second glance.”
Liam’s face falls, he looks away from me to recompose himself before his eyes meet me again, “Raine, we aren’t children anymore… if you gave me your attention now… fuck I’d be yours.”
I pull away, “Why now?”
“Because the guy that you’re talking about was freshman to junior in high school that wanted to bang chicks and leave them because he had no time for a relationship and just focused on hockey.” He explains, “I can manage both now.”
Was Liam somehow hinting at a relationship?
I scoff, “Liam don’t bullshit me, you are still that playboy that everyone fucking says when I mention your name.”
Liam laughs, “I’m not going to deny that people still preserve me as such,” He runs his tongue along his lower lip and bit down, he looked frustrated.
“And if you think that you won’t be able to look past the reviews about me then I don’t know what we’re doing.” He gestures at the both of us.
“I can spend my whole life trying to convince you but all you would have to do is let me… and give me a chance.”
How can I ever say no to him. His face speaks volume, and I can’t help but feel like my heart is melting, still I’m a bit hesitant to his approach.
“That’s a whole lot to ask for, Charming.” I pull away from him as he shakes his head, “I’m being serious Raine… I would do fucking anything for you to even think about it.”
I send him a curious look, “Think about what?” I taunt him a bit.
He gives me a playful look, “You know what I mean.”
“I don’t know about that William; a lot of girls would be angry at me for finally taming you.”
He narrows his eyes, “I am not tamed!” He settles down, “Just overcame by you.”
I smile uncontrollably, like God didn’t give me a choice in the matter and I sound fucking crazy. I shouldn’t be feeling butterflies when he looks at me, I shouldn’t be thinking about saving him a seat at the family table. I shouldn’t be touching him like he’s my boyfriend because, he’s not.
He’s not my anything. And it was pretty impossible for him to be any part of my life romantically. God, forbid I have a dinner with my maybe future husband.
I thin my lips as he takes his eyes away from me, “I know it isn’t the best idea to get with me and I’m not even going to lie to you and say that I don’t have the reputation you said.”
He stands up, “But I can tell you how much you have made me speechless.”
He looks at me like I was his lifeline, the only source of clean water during a war, and I can’t help but think that when his eyes meet mine, my eyes look at him the same fucking way.
“There is no way you are saying that to me, Mr. Grayson Prince’s right-hand man…” I gently tease him as he pulls out his phone, “I have a surprise for you.”
I let my eyebrows wrinkle as he holds out his hand for me to take, almost like the simple gesture was sentimental and it meant something a lot more.
I roll my eyes before placing my hand on top of his as he pulls me out of the door, “Wait we have to be quiet!” I let out in a laughing, yet muffling tone.
I wasn’t sure which direction this was going, but he wasn’t rushing me in making a decision. I was rushing myself, because I have to.
But all I knew was that Liam Brookshire has completely blindsided me and, I was happy about it.
