22. Margo

Chapter 22

Margo

“ G O LIAM!” I heard shrieks come out of several girl’s mouths as they stood up and intently watched Liam skate around during the game.

The team was losing and yet the girls still kept screaming at the boys.

Verina and Juliette had sat next to me as I rolled my eyes repeatedly and ignored the eye contact, that Liam would hold with me from across the arena.

“Shouldn’t you be over there?” Juliette muttered as I turned to look at her.

“Am I?” I stood up, not sure if I was supposed to.

“Margo! You are technically part of the team now. Get over there!” Verina pushed me into one of the many girls that looked like a copy and paste of each other.

Of course, with my luck the girl I slammed into was holding a poster which was specifically made for Liam.

“Did they just say you’re like a part of the team?” The girl beamed as I smiled thickly.

“Uh… yes.” I muttered, as I slowly walked away from her, she followed me.

“Do you personally know Liam?” She asked as I nodded.

“Well tell him to return my calls!” She shouted as I ran away from her as quickly as possible.

Oh my god, these girls were crazy.

As I approached the team, they started unloading and walked over to the locker room. I could hear Grayson screaming already.

I certainly wouldn’t want to be in that locker room, that’s for sure.

Ronni’s eyes found mine, she started to wave me over, I walked closer to realize she was making an ice pack for a player on the other team.

“Thought you were never going to show.” She said as my face turned bright red.

“I actually have been here and completely forgot about the intern portion.” I explained further as she laughed.

“Trust me, it’s a lot peaceful on this side of the arena than that side. You have screaming girls around you wishing the best of luck to their favorite player.”

“Unlucky for you, your boyfriend is a heavily picked heartthrob around here.” She made a point as I laughed lightly.

“Uhm, no he’s not my boyfriend.” I corrected.

Ronni looked at me up and down, then behind me to where the players started to walk out of the locker room.

“Then how comes you two look at each other like you are made for each other?” She asked as I turned to Verina who suddenly appeared.

“What are you doing here!” I snapped at her as she laughed, “Take a chill pill, I just wanna see what you’re doing.”

“Nothing right now, no one is really injured except for that guy.” Ronni pointed at the opposing team member who laid on their back with the ice pack on their arm.

“You girls can chill and watch the game from this side for a while.” Ronni advised as we both nodded and walked over near the benches.

Verina’s eyes automatically scanned around to look for Christopher Florence. Which has been her newly found obsession.

As we wait around there, the team starched out, Grayson approached both of Verina and I with narrowed eyes and a mission.

“Where the hell is she?” He demanded an answer.

“Why do you care?” I smirked as his eyes darkened even more.

“She’s at Brooks’ game, isn’t she?” He scowled as I stayed quiet. I didn’t want to add to Grayson’s disappointment as a part of me already understood that he knew that Adrianna wasn’t going to attend.

Liam skated over to Grayson and me, “Don’t worry man, we can still win this, even without your girl.” He patted Grayson’s shoulder.

Grayson looked about ready to throw hands, he looked laser focused on the scoreboard and the fact that they were losing. Liam looked at me with a wink as I avoided his eye contact.

“Learn your states yet?” I muttered while a smirk as he smiled.

“You are so incredibly lucky to know that I remember the fifty nifty United States song we learned in elementary school.” He shot back with an innocent smile as I looked at Verina who gave him a fist bump.

“You’re gonna have to work a lot harder to get me to stay away from my future wife.” Liam smiled widely at me before he skated away.

I shot a look to Grayson as he put both his hands up.

“Don’t look at me, I can’t take your side. I always help my best friend win, even if it’s winning a girl back.” He quickly muttered before he skated away from Verina and me.

“I mean there is absolutely no way he is getting his nails done right?” I throw a look at Verina who didn’t back me up.

“I don’t know Margo… he seemed to look pretty determined and not only that, his whole friend group may have big egos, but they are definitely secure with all their masculinities.” She rattled off as I looked back at Liam and Grayson skating around.

I really did hope that Liam would finish the list.

But that was really up to him.

I just saw someone’s legs break.

I watched as Ronni and other people pulled Twain’s body into a stretcher. I knew that he received a concussion, but everyone knew he might’ve just lost his whole ability to walk.

Grayson didn’t even look like he felt bad. None of them did. I walked past Liam who looked like he was on a mission to leave the place.

To be fair, the game was done, and I knew that players were either tired or ready to party somewhere else.

“Liam, how’s Grayson?” I asked as he tilted his head.

“How could Grayson do something like that?” I shook my head as Liam paused.

“Whatever happened, Grayson didn’t mean to break his legs Raine. Grayson also wouldn’t have striked like that if Twain didn’t provoke him into doing so.” Liam finished his sentence quickly before I pulled him back with his arm.

“Where are you going?” I grew worried he wasn’t going to meet me by the guest house.

“I’m a mysterious man, Raine.” He joked before he threw a wink at me.

He certainly was, and I guess all I could really do was trust him.

That wasn’t as easy to do than say.
