Chapter 25
Margo
I sn’t it such a beautiful day?
The birds were chirping, my parents and I aren’t arguing.
I mean hell, we even had breakfast all together as a family, with my dad’s smile back on his face and my mother’s newest Chanel being handed to her by her personal buyer.
“Oh Maggie, remind us how he asked you again!” My mother ran over to me while she pulled my hand over to her eyes and settled her orbs on my beautiful ring finger that adorned a massive diamond ring.
“Mom, I told you at least a billion times.” I verbalized as she gave a sigh of relief.
“We’re just so happy you’ve come to your senses Maggie. This was the right choice honey.” She mumbled as I shook my head.
“Have you talked to Adrianna?” My father spoke up as he wiped his mouth with a napkin.
My eyes widened in remembrance that I was supposed to tell her the moment I said yes, however due to the fact that it was late, and she had her early appointment today, with her therapist then I figured she was already asleep.
“No, and I am on my way over to her house now actually.” I got up and hugged both my parents goodbye before jetting off to Adrianna’s mansion.
Of course, my day was going smoothly before the moment I took three steps out of my driveway only to see Liam, who leaned against his motorcycle.
Suddenly, clouds of misery gathered around my self-esteem and the sky, I pulled out my sunglasses and flounced my way from Liam.
But of course, me ignoring him was not a part of his agenda.
“Hamilton.” He addressed as I walked faster, but before I knew it his body found itself in front of mine within seconds.
“You’re nine hours late, Brookshire.” I remarked as he knocked his head back.
“Margo, I didn’t see the back of the note, I swear once I did, I was rushing back from Philly to your house.” He explained as I let out a breath.
“I understand.” I gulped down as he’s face filled with relief and happiness.
Liam held my hand, and pulled me closer, “I would’ve been there on time if I could, Raine.”
Liam was right, he could’ve been there if he could. But he wasn’t. I was always a firm believer in second chances, and I’ve given Liam twice as many as I could. And yet I was always the one that ended up scathed.
He never had repercussions, consequences. Other people always got hurt and never him.
I pulled away, and the light on his face drained.
“That doesn’t change anything Liam, you didn’t show, and I made my decision.” I stood my ground as he shook his head.
“Just because I was late you want to throw what we have away.” He hissed as I felt water build up around my eyes.
“You threw us away the moment you left me by myself in Greece with no explanation, no contact and no respect.” I snapped.
“So don’t tell me about throwing us away when I still came back here for you, and you had girls all over you and you miss the last chance I give you.” I continued as he, himself backed up.
“You seriously think that you belong with a fucking Grimaldi, Margo?” He fumed, “Seriously?”
“Aside from you?!” I gawped; Liam paced away from me as I stood in place.
“Margo I’m trying, don’t you see that?” He paced back.
“It’s not enough Liam!” My voice heightened before I took a breath to compose myself.
“I already said yes to Ben. There’s nothing you or anyone else could say to me to make me take it back. He has been nothing but a gentleman and––”
“––And what?” Liam interrupted.
“Margo, you and I are meant to be together don’t you see that?”
“You. Didn’t. Show. Up.” I closed my eyes and seethed as he gave a large breath. Those were my terms, and you didn’t meet them.” I said plainly as he stood there and just looked at me.
“I didn’t know––” He exclaimed as I cut him off.
“––That doesn’t matter anymore! You say we’re meant to be but maybe that’s not true! You say you care about me but there are so many obstacles that show that it’s hard.” I acknowledged.
“Loving isn’t supposed to be hard; it’s supposed to be calming. You and I are too hard, you hurt me too much and I can’t let myself spiral down this pattern just because you are my kryptonite.” I confessed.
“So, what?” He paused; he looked frustrated.
“Are you just giving up on us because it’s too hard?” He settled as I shook my head sideways.
“No Liam, I’m letting you go. I have a future with Ben, he’s made it clear he is willing to let me take it slow, under my conditions. So, I’m giving him a chance.”
Liam looked down at my hand as the diamond ring glistened.
“So please, give up.” I finished.
I didn’t want to tell the rest of my friends yet, so I pulled the engagement ring out of my hand and down to my Birkin.
“I’m not going to stop fighting for you Raine.” He admitted.
I paused for a second.
“No matter how long it takes.” He continued.
Without another word, I passed Liam, with my eyes on the sidewalk, and tears draining down my face.
LIAM
A s I made my way over to Grayson’s bedroom, I couldn’t help but think about whether riding my motorcycle into a volcano or facing Margo again would be more destructive.
I should’ve never approached her, only because now I know that she wants absolutely nothing more to do with me.
But she still spoke to me, meaning that she still wants me in a way.
I mean she could’ve picked anyone, and she picked fucking Ben Grimy Grimaldi. First off, I’m pretty sure he ate paste until middle school. I’ve always hated his family, he and his brother waterboarded Grayson and I at the Vanderbilt’s brunch.
I didn’t bother knocking before barging into my best friend’s abode. To my mistake, my eyes feasted on places where the sun didn’t shine.
“Yo! Knock!” He yelled at me while wrapping a towel around his waist.
“I’m guessing that’s why Adrianna tried desperately walking out of your house by the back door, dropping packs of condoms.” I laughed off while flopping down on one of Grayson’s chairs.
He did nothing but roll his eyes, “So did you guys…” I shrugged as he gave me one of the deadliest stares to man.
“No. We didn’t, and we aren’t going to, it was a mistake.” He shook his head.
“Why do you say that?” I grew intrigued as Grayson put clothes and started packing for hockey practice.
“Will, if you could’ve seen her face. It was like… I shouldn’t even be allowed to touch her man. I felt like I was destroying everything that God sent down to be the purest.”
I let my eyebrows wrinkle, “She deserves better than me, and I can’t be a better guy for her, I just can’t.” He continues as I coughed out.
“Uh, yeah you’re right she does deserve better, that’s why this is a fake thing remember, you don’t actually like her, you want to be with August remember, or did you miss the memo by looking into Adrianna’s doe eyes.” I laughed as Grayson licked his lips to prevent further words to escape.
“Whatever you did Gray, break it off tonight.” I mumbled as he nodded.
“So, what are your plans with Hamilton?” Grayson looked over at me as I flipped through the pages of our ECON textbook.
I looked up slowly, “What do you mean?”
“Well, that list, did you throw it away?” He asked.
“Are you kidding me Gray, this is the ultimate test on me getting her back, it’s only overtime. Sure, she’s made it absolutely clear that she wants nothing to do with me but, I will do whatever it takes to get her back, and I mean whatever, even if I hurt myself.” I grumbled.
“You sound psychotic.” His face grew disturbed.
I smiled, “Or you, my friend, aren’t crazy for a girl yet.”
I could only grin at Grayson, he didn’t know it yet, but Adrianna was slowly wrapping him around her finger, slowly but surely.
“I think I never will be.” He sodded as I rolled my eyes.
“I think we both know that you are wrong in that department. Adrianna has been bugging you since the moment you saw each other.”
Grayson threw his head back, “Let’s not forget that Margo and you didn’t push each other in the pool during P.E. class in elementary.”
At that moment I realized that maybe it was written in the stars that Margo and I were inevitable, we were supposed to happen. Even if Grayson and Adrianna can’t see it, they were born for each other.
Before Grayson picked up his keys, his phone rang. My eyes caught Margo’s name in his screen, which made me swipe his phone from his desk.
“Hey Raine.” I smirked at Grayson as he rolled his eyes.
“What are you doing picking up Grayson’s phone?” She snapped back as I couldn’t help but smile.
“You know you miss me. Besides, why do you need to talk to him when you have me.” I asked as she stayed silent.
“I was planning something as a group thing, for Adrianna and Grayson to look like they enjoyed each other’s company.”
“So would that mean that we would be hanging out together too?” I asked with a grin on my face, Grayson’s eyes rolled to the back of his head.
Before I could even get an answer, Margo hung up.
She wants me.
“You do understand that she hates you right?” Grayson made a point as I threw our textbook at him.
“And you do understand that so does Adrianna, right?”
While he might’ve been right in the fact of Margo hating my guts, I cannot forget the nights where we were completely in love and that nothing else mattered.
That was what was keeping me going, that one day everything was going to be worked out.
Whatever it takes.
