Chapter 28

Liam

B uzzzzz. Buzzzz. Buzzzzzz.

I felt like I was going to be sick.

I felt like I wanted to punch something and at the same time wanted to experience any other type of pain because nothing else hurt more than what I felt internally right now.

It felt like she ripped my heart out of my chest and stomped on it a billion times.

When did I ever let myself be this intrigued, this focused and this fucking caught up on a girl.

A girl that is completely unavailable now for my fucking information.

She practically told me to fucking leave her alone. She put in on a billboard with bold fucking letters.

The guys had wanted to meet up at Neil’s place which was not really a place that we would hang out often, but I needed it.

Chris finally took a break from his fighting and hung out with us.

Buzzzzz. Buzzzz.

“What else did you want again?” Neil asked me as I looked at the mirror.

“Can you add a bit of rain to it?” I asked as he nodded.

“Why did you want a lightning and thunderstorm again?” Chris asked me as Neil looked up from his tattoo pen.

“I had this thing where I was afraid of thunderstorms, I shouldn’t be afraid of anything.” I muttered as he nodded.

“And the rain effects?” Neil further pushed as I stayed silent.

Margo’s middle name is Raine. I thought to myself.

I knew that a new tattoo felt as if it was way too much for a coping mechanism, but it covered most of the internal pain I felt.

It crossed one of the things in Margo’s list for me to do.

“Hey, can I have some of that fried rice?” I asked Neil as he took a small bite of his chicken.

“No.” He sneered as Chris, and I gave each other a look.

As the back window creaked open only for a baby kitten to be discovered.

“Woah a cat.” Chris muttered.

“No shit.” I laughed as the cat continued to walk closer.

I would’ve loved to pick up the kitten as it sauntered over next to me, with its bright blue eyes.

The kitten was brown, but not a regular orange, brown. This cat was coffee colored.

The cat’s bright blue eyes reminded me of Margo.

She shouldn’t be on my mind this much, but I can’t help being so obsessed and in love with her.

Even if I can’t be with her and she broke my heart.

“We should give it a home.” Chris muttered as he pouted.

“I would love to take it but I’m allergic.” Neil sneezed as I looked at Chris.

“I’d love to take it, but I can barely afford Finn and I; I can’t take a pet.” He defended.

Since Grayson wasn’t here to defend himself, I looked at the kitten and didn’t mind taking it to find a home.

“I’ll find a place for it, temporarily.” I mutter as the looked at me with concerned filled faces.

“What is it?”

“Well… I would never expect you to be the one to find time just to find a home for the cat.” Chris said as my eyebrow raised.

“Yeah, why do you want the cat?”

“When did I say I wanted to cat?” I defended, “I just said I’ll find a home for it, so leave the subject alone.”

They both looked at each other and shrugged.

“How have the fights been?” Neil wiped some ink off my tattoo as Chris looked up from the kitten, he was holding.

“It’s been good, the training has been extremely hard, balancing hockey, school and work at the same time has been very challenging especially trying to take care of Finn as well.” He explained as I snuck a piece of chicken from Neil’s plate.

I waited for him to finish.

“But… Verina had been a really great help these past few weeks.” Chris couldn’t help but blush.

He’s always been a clean-cut type of guy, he works his ass off, grinds his gears during hockey, and maybe has two hours of sleep every night.

I had never seen his life been detoured because of a girl. I’ve never seen him give a second glance to a girl. I mean sure, I knew Chris has his moments and he would easily get one.

Which he does, but never anything serious. He had never gave an inkling that there would be a chance of anything else the next day.

“You’ve been spending a lot of time with her lately.” I added as he looked down at his phone and a wide grin had appeared on his face.

“We are very close friends… she makes me feel like maybe the world isn’t out to get me, you know?” He laughed as I nodded.

“Does she know about your fights?” Neil asked while taking a closer look at my tattoo for the finishing touches.

Chris had stayed silent as Neil, and I gave each other a funny look.

“Don’t you think she should?” Neil looked up.

“She would be involved in something that could get her in trouble, I wouldn’t want her to know about it.” Chris took another bite of his fried rice as I snuck another piece of chicken from Neil’s plate.

“Oh, so it’s okay that we know about it though.” I narrowed my eyes as he rolled his.

“Correction, I tried to hide it from you guys too, but you guys sneakily followed me around and ended up watching the illegal underground fights.” He pointed at me, as I pretended, he pointed at Neil.

I took another look at Neil’s chicken that was laying there waiting to be eaten, he only had two left, and I had already been snacking the whole time he was working on my tattoo.

“All right, you’re done.” Neil pulled away from me, I hid my face away from him, as I was chewing on his second to last piece of chicken.

“Is that my fucking chicken?” Neil stood up as well as I did.

“It looked really good.” I smiled at him before he started to run after me, circling around Chris and the kitten.

“Oh, come on, I’ll get you more!” I shouted as he only held anger in his eyes.

Chris only stayed sat and quiet.

“Chris, can you say something!” I yelled for back up as he smiled at me menacingly.

“Maybe you should just shut your mouth and stop bitching and complaining. What did you expect? You took his chicken that he has been talking about for weeks.” Chris made a point as I continued to run around.

“Come on!” I ran near Chris for protection.

He threw me a horrible look, “I’m going to get back to my fried rice now and it’s going to taste a lot better when I’m not looking at you two fighting like Finn and his friends.”

Neil and I paused.

We both turned our heads towards Chris.

Chris’s face had waved a white flag before Neil, and I jumped on top of him.

Even if I had a horrible encounter with Margo, I could always count on my best friends to keep my head up. No matter how bad it hurt.
