36. Margo

Chapter 36

Margo

T here is actually no way that Liam was seeing someone else, was there?

I mean I did tell him to, but was there an actual possibility that he was.

“Has he mentioned anything to any of you?” I grumbled as the girls, and I walked around Fifth Avenue.

We had one mission, and it was looking for dresses to wear to the ball, Verina had already purchased one from Paris which was getting shipped soon.

Technically it was just me and Juliette on the hunt. We dragged Adrianna to come along even though she despised the idea of going.

She had barely talked at all the whole time; I knew her and Grayson were hitting a rough patch.

“Why does it matter, I thought you two were just friends.” Juliette yawned.

That’s what I thought myself, except I couldn’t stop thinking about Liam being with another girl.

“We are just friends.” I defended as Adrianna and Verina rolled their eyes.

Juliette pulled my arm and sat me down at a random café seat. I was sitting in front of all three of them.

“You need to knock it off Margo.” Adrianna announced which took me back for a moment.

They were about to lead me through an intervention. I knew this look all too well. I was acting crazy, and they were about to tell me, straight to my face that I was mental.

“We don’t care whether you want to believe it or not, Liam is over you.” Juliette added on.

Well, those words stabbed me in the heart. I was hoping they were going to be a bit nicer to me.

“You are getting married for God’s sake!” Verina proclaimed. She picked up my left hand and pointed at the ring that adorned my finger.

“You are wearing an engagement ring. You gave up Liam the moment you said yes to Ben. And Ben has been nothing but nice to you. He doesn’t deserve you, still giving your attention to another man. Especially William Brookshire.” She said with a hoarse sigh.

I tend to forget that I never mentioned all the things that Ben has done to me. I would never tell anyone that he hurt me in many ways not just physically, but I'm pretty sure he destroyed my emotional spirit as well.

He would slap me if I said the wrong thing. He would shove me when he didn't agree with my comment.

There were countless times I had fallen down the stairs and sometimes I like to convince myself that it was my fault. In reality, I knew he’s pushed me.

He chokes me when he doesn’t want to hear me say anything. There are a kaleidoscope of patterned bruises everywhere on my body that I have to hide with an enormous amount of concealer and foundation.

He’s gotten inventive the past few weeks with using objects to knock me out before we went to bed together, the next day he would present me with a new gift to shut me up.

I was in pain almost every day of my life and I had to stay silent for my father’s sake.

It angers me when my friends brought him up like he was everything glorious in the world, that he was perfect. Though, I could never be angry with them because I had been keeping the secret.

“I can’t help it.” I sighed.

They all pouted, “We know you love Liam. We see the way you two look at each other, but Margo… you treating him like he’s your boyfriend when, there really is no hope for you guys is cruel.” Adrianna whispered as I nodded.

“I’m trying so hard not to be selfish with him.” I lowered my gaze to the ground, “But it’s like someone is ripping out my heart piece by piece, every time I look at him and the look, he gives me looks nothing like how he looked at me in the summer.”

Adrianna exhaled heavily, “If you love him, you let him give his love to someone else, even if it hurts.”

I knew at this point, Adrianna wasn’t talking about me, she was talking about herself.

She hadn’t talked to Grayson in a long time, he had completely ghosted her. It was way out of the ordinary, everyone knew that Grayson wouldn’t want to live in an earth without her.

At least that’s what we did think, he hadn’t called, texted, or talked to her in days. He has completely avoided eye contact with her in campus, hadn’t attended any of the movie nights.

Adrianna had held out hope but as the days went on, the look of love in her eyes started turning into heartbreak.

I understood why love would fail for me and Liam. I really did, there were many things that fought the idea of us ever being together.

But when it came to people like Adrianna who deserved nothing but love. I really resented God for causing my best friend pain.

“Don’t you want to give Grayson a piece of your mind, Anna?” Verina asked as Adrianna shook her head.

“If he wants to talk to me about it then, he will. I will not seek him out first.” She replied.

Adrianna checked the time, “I have to get back to my house, it’s getting late.”

We all stood up to send our goodbyes to her, as her driver picked her up from the curb. Juliette checked her phone with a slight look of disappointment.

“I have practice too, so I’ll catch up with you guys later.” She said in a hurry before running off.

I looked at Verina who laughed, “Okay well, we haven’t hung out just the two of us in a long time.”

It was true, I haven’t hung out with Verina in a while.

“Well, you’re always off with Florence and you never have time for me.” I shot back as she rolled her eyes.

“You spend all your time cooped up in that trainer room all the time with Liam no wonder your back to falling for him.” She gave a weary sigh.

Verina was the only one who understood me at this very moment, her and Chris were only friends because he wasn’t capable of anything more. Obviously, that didn’t stop her feelings from blossoming.

“I need you to do me a favor.” Verina’s mouth quirked up in a smirk as my eyebrow rose.

These were never good.

“––Hear me out first!” She placed her hands up in the air as I sighed dramatically.

“Fine.”

“Every Wednesday and Friday, Chris disappears out of thin air, like I have no idea where he goes. He claims he picks up checks from his mother to help with Finn, but I hired people to look into it for me. He hasn’t received help from his mother for years.” She whispered.

Verina sighed heavily, “I think he might be up to something no good. I’m worried for him.”

I listened intently to Verina who looked like she was about to be sick out of her mind.

“What do you want me to do?” I asked as she smiled.

Verina’s two bodyguards held on to two different duffle bags in silence, my eyes registered over to Verina’s.

“Oh, please don’t tell me those are dead bodies.” I whispered in a panicked tone.

“No!” She slapped me.

“It’s worst.”
