46. Finn

Chapter 46

Finn

W ho the fuck is that guy with Thea? He looks vaguely familiar, but I’m not sure where I’ve seen him before. I step out of the alcove as he puts his number in her phone before leaving with three other guys. I think one of them is a third-year prospect.

Thea’s staring at his back like he’s a cool new discovery. He was up in her space, and she allowed it. I know she has a knife on her somewhere. Her go to move is to whip it out and threaten to stab people for getting too close. She cut me when I touched her phone, but she did neither of those things with this guy. Instead, she entertained his antics, and now she’s making googly eyes at his back.

Does she like him? Was she agreeing to team up with him for a challenge? I hope she hasn’t forgotten that she can’t trust any of the prospects. Even third years will do whatever it takes to steal her points and get her kicked out. I’m torn between going over to her and going after the guy and turning him into buzzard food. No one would notice if he went missing, right? They’ll assume he ran away like they did with Thea. I’m sure I can get Holden to fabricate evidence that he ran off with a girl or a guy or something.

My need to talk to my girl overrides my desire to sever his femoral artery. I follow the crowd out of the building and along the path to the parking lot, and wait for Thea by her car.

She sees me and rolls her pretty blue eyes as she walks over to the driver's side door. “Finn, I’m not in the right headspace for your bullshit today.”

Thea’s competitive so it makes sense that the results of the meeting have her stressed. I hate that she’s upset. “Don’t worry about those scores, Pet. You’ll be back on top of the leaderboard next month.”

“Why is everyone so damn sure that I’ll be dominating the scores next month? Huh? Do you have some inside knowledge that I don’t know about?”

Who is everybody? Him . “Did that fucker tell you that? Did he say that he had some inside knowledge to help you get ahead? If he did, he’s lying.”

“So what if he is, Finn? Isn’t that what we’re all doing? Lying and manipulating each other so we come out on top?”

“Yeah, but-”

“But? But what?”

“But I don’t lie to you, Thea. I never have.”

Her expression hardens. “What do you want, Finn? Why are you talking to me when I think my actions have made it clear that I don’t want to talk to you? I’ve even told Holden to pass on just how much I don’t want to deal with any of you. But I guess you need to say your piece, so hurry up and spit it out.”

I heard all about the conversation she had with Holden, and she’s delusional if she thinks we’re letting her break up with us. Being on a break is one thing. Breaking up. That shit’s not happening. “I just wanted to make sure you’re alright. I know things might seem different since you came back.”

“Things are different, Finn.”

“With Pax and Eloise, sure. But Holden and I haven’t changed our minds. Our plans were put on pause because you were detained.”

“Detained.” Her face scrunches like the word leaves a bitter taste on her tongue.

“Is there another word you want me to use to reference your incarceration?” Gravel crunches behind us. I turn before she answers and see a golf cart carrying several council members coming our way. Thea takes advantage of the distraction, climbs into her car and drives off, spinning up dirt and gravel in my face.

My attempts to talk to Thea were derailed outside of The Tomb. Then, we had a challenge last weekend. I don’t even want to think about how awkward that shit was with Pax trying to run the show and Holden and I ignoring him. We completed the challenge and scraped by in first place. The second-place team had a lot to say about that.

Today is the first chance I’ve had to talk to her again. She’s ignoring my Prospectus messages, and since she no longer lives in Vale Tower, I can’t just jump over the balcony to see her. Her current dorm room is in the middle of the hallway and doesn’t have a balcony. There’s also a new set of guards sitting at the front desk who are a little too diligent in their duties. They won’t allow visitors in the dorm past the lobby, unless the resident you wish to see has already entered your visit in the guest book or comes down to get you.

“Good Afternoon, Pet.” I greet, sliding into the seat beside her. I ignore the scowl she gives me, and the fuck off attitude she’s projecting. It’s time for us to be us again. Waiting for her to change her mind about this so-called breakup is taking too long, and it’s boring. Plus, I want to know why she’s mad at me. I’ve been on my best behavior while she was gone. The bestest. There has never been and will never be anyone more behaved than I was. Which brings me to what I want to talk to her about.

I smile, twisting in my chair to face her. “Did you sleep well?”

“No.”

No? Looking closely, I notice the bags and dark shadows under her eyes. Her cheekbones are also more prominent than I remember. Is she on a diet? I hope not. I liked her just fine the way she was before. Maybe she didn’t get enough to eat in prison. I know they say you get three meals a day, but institutional food is just so… institutional. I doubt cheese fries were on the menu.

“What’s wrong?” I ask when she pinches the bridge of her nose.

“What do you want, Finn?”

“Nothing.” She gives me a side eye so I say, “I want something, but not right now. In fact, I have something for you.”

“Something like what?”

“A gift.” She stares pointedly at my empty hands, causing me to smile again. “I can’t give it to you here.” I purse my lips, wondering if maybe there was a way I could have brought it to class. I guess it’s possible with help, but this is my gift and I don’t want anyone else seeing it and trying to take it, or take credit for it. “You ready?” I ask, getting to my feet.

“Ready for…”

“To go see your gift.”

“Class is about to start, Finn.”

“So…”

“So, I’m not ditching class for you to show me this so-called gift, which I’m pretty sure I’ve seen before.”

Now, she’s staring unimpressed at my dick. I palm it, readjusting myself because yes, the thought of giving her my gift makes me hard. “It isn’t this gift, and you know I wouldn’t feel the need to leave class to give this to you. I’d whip it out right here, and let you play with it.” Reaching for the waistband of my sweatpants, I ask, “Do you wanna play, Pet?”

Facing forward in her seat, she responds, “Can’t. I’m too busy learning. Guess you’ll have to play with yourself, Finley.”

Is she daring me to jack off right here and now? I retake my seat, rubbing my hand over the outside of my pants, grazing my dick. “Are you sure you don’t wanna play? I’ll get to the surprise at the end, faster if you do.”

Her head jerks around, mouth gaping open, as she catches sight of me kneading my dick through the cotton fabric. “You have got to be kidding me. Don’t you have any shame?”

“No. Not even a little bit when it comes to you.” I lean over and ask, “Do you want me to play with you, too?”

Her hands clench the edge of the table. “Touch me and you’ll lose a finger.”

“Pet, you have the dirtiest mouth.” I groan, “I’m ready to cum just thinking about it.” Slowly, I remove my hands and fold them across my chest as the teacher comes into the room. “Meet me in front of the library after your last class. We’ll go see your gift and then revisit the gift of orgasms after that.”

Thea

I didn’t meet Finn after my last class. In fact, I purposely avoided the route that takes me near the library. It added time to my trip to the dorm, but not having to deal with him made the extra few minutes worth it. I’m just as uninterested in seeing this so-called gift as I am in seeing his dick.

I dropped my things off in my room. Now I’m heading to the parking lot so I can meet LJ in town for an early dinner. I would rather be in my dorm, but I know that isn’t healthy and does nothing to further my goals.

Alexz assures me it’s relatively safe for me to be out in the open. He has people in town watching out for me, but won't tell me who they are. I talk to him as frequently as I talk to Moira, Scott, Van, and the guy who calls himself my favorite cousin. So far, Ryland and his dad Clayton are the only ones I’ve met from that side of mom’s family.

I’ve just settled into a booth and ordered a bottled water when Finn slides into the seat across from me. “You said you were meeting me at the library.”

“No, I didn’t. You told me to meet you there and walked off, assuming I would.”

“Fair point. I’m assuming you had plans, which is why you didn’t show?”

“You’re doubling down on the ass part.” My lips twitch when his eyes slit.

“Fine, then enlighten me. Why didn’t you show up?”

“I had plans, but I didn’t show because I didn’t want to.”

I ignore the pout on his face when he says, “But I have a gift for you, Pet.”

“I told you in class that I don’t want that gift.”

“And I told you I wasn’t talking about my dick, but now that you’ve brought it up, again , I have to ask, why not? You never had issues with me gifting it to you before.”

Shifting in my seat, I ask, “Can’t a girl change her mind about who she sleeps with? You know, I think I’ll answer my own question. Yes . Yes, a girl can change her mind. Just because she sleeps with you one time or a thousand times doesn’t mean she’s obligated to only be serviced by your dick again and again.”

“So this is about the multiple dick theory you live by? You have plenty to rotate through. Mine, Holden’s and I assume Deacon’s.”

“I don’t have yours and Holden’s in the rotation.” When he opens his mouth to argue, I say, “Let me clarify. I don’t want yours and Holden’s in the rotation.”

Finn’s a playful guy, but there’s no touch of humor in his voice when he asks, “What did you say?”

“You. Heard. Me.”

“I did, but I must not have heard you correctly, because it sounds like you’re trying to bench me.”

“Bench you?” Making a slashing move across my throat, I say, “You’re completely cut from my team.”

LJ comes in, giving Finn the stink eye as she approaches. I tell her, “He was just leaving.”

“I was?”

“Finn, we’ve already discussed that the plans I have for this evening don’t include you.”

That playful gleam is back in his eyes. He slides from the booth with a perky, “My gifts and I will see you soon.”
