I couldn't control the way my hands were shaking, the pounding in my head grew louder with every heartbeat.

I watched as she begged me to come along.

She looked so vulnerable when Marcus pulled her down the ladder with him and all I could do was close the window and turn away.

If I looked at her any longer, I would crawl out that window and go with them.

I wanted to save her. To be the one to take her away from here but I would settle with being the one to secure her escape. I couldn't be her knight in shining armor, but I could be this.

I opened the door heading back to the hallway and back downstairs before people noticed I wasn’t at the wedding. I hear a small yelp beside me as I exit the room and see the housemaid that’s always with Elliott, standing there scared shitless.

She takes a breath trying to calm her nerves. "Did you do it?"

All I can do is watch her.

"Did you get her out?" The words are just a whisper but I give her a nod. I won't say the words out loud. I can't risk anyone overhearing but I allow myself a small smile. I make my way back to the stairwell, hearing the door close behind me.

My heart is cracking with every step, taking me farther away from Elliott and Marcus.

I did it. I remind myself. I got her out.

Now I needed to save the rest of this fucking town.
