Seattle, March 27, 1953

My darling Cass,

Such joyous news! Oh, the relief I felt hearing that you will soon return home to our good ol’ US of A. Please do everything in your power to stay safe until then. (I write this knowing it is possible you may leave Korea before this letter reaches its destination. How about that? I might see you sooner than it takes the post to travel!)

But I could scarcely believe that you’ve willingly stayed this long and could have been home many months now if not for volunteering extra time. I admit I was at once rattled and proud upon reading your words. Selfishly, I wish you safe on this side of the big blue pond, and yet you still being there is also a testament to your character beyond any other I have met. Your care for your fellow man truly knows no bounds.

It makes sense that your parents will want you home with them for a bit once you are back. If they are at all like Mama, this has surely been an ordeal for them. Allow them to pamper you for a spell and don’t fret about finding work straight away. I understand the urgency you express and the desire to move forward, but I reckon a woman of your caliber will have her choice of a job once you and they are ready. Will they object to me calling on you, do you think? I sure hope not. It is the thing most presently on my mind when I am not at work.

Yes, I have found a job and one with mighty fine prospects to boot. Thanks to a friend of my uncle’s, I am learning the ropes in car sales and hope to pocket my first commission soon. Perhaps I’ll use it to treat you to dinner at the swankiest place Tacoma’s got. Now wouldn’t that be a dream come true?

Please let me know the moment you receive your date of travel, by mail, telegram, or telephone. I have included Mama’s number below and will be counting the days.
