Chapter 18

CHAPTER 18

M y Daddy

Cameron

This is un-fucking-believable. Those assholes broke into our box and ruined our night. How the fuck did Maribel and I end up in cuffs?

I had no choice but to call my daddy to get us out of this mess. He said he’d be on a plane or helicopter or whatever would get him here fastest to get us out of here. I’m pissed because he should be with Caleb, not coming to rescue me.

He didn’t sound happy about this, but he wasn’t about to let them cart me and Maribel off to jail. That’s what they were trying to do at first. This is all bullshit.

Everything was fine until one of the security guards started acting like an asshole while questioning Maribel. I saw this shit coming and I exploded without thinking. Sometimes I believe having Cal around is a good thing for me. I think first when he’s with me.

“Cameron, what the heck is going on?” Daddy growls as he storms into the room they’ve been holding us in.

I stand with my hands still behind my back. Maribel is sitting with an ice pack against her cheek, but her hands are still cuffed as well. The only reason she has the ice pack is because I threatened to sue once this was all straightened out.

“We did nothing wrong. Those guys crashed our box and then tried to attack my friend. It was self-defense. I mean, look at her fucking face. They locked the door and had planned to assault her, not knowing I was on the other side of the restroom door,” I say.

Daddy looks to Maribel with his mouth hanging open. When he gets a look at her holding the ice pack to her face, rage fills his eyes. He moves closer and holds out his hand.

“I’m Cam’s daddy. Kyle Perry. Nice to meet you, darlin’. You mind if I take a look?”

She drops her hands to shake his as best she can with the cuffs on. Daddy hisses when her face comes into view. Her cheek has a huge bruise on it.

“The other guy looks much worse. I’m Maribel. It’s nice to meet you, sir.”

“None of that. You call me Kyle. You’re a pretty little thing. Not even that little bruise there can take that away from you.”

“I hope not. I would hate to have to sue your son for my failed modeling career.”

Daddy narrows his eyes at her, but the wrinkle line around his eyes forms as he realizes she’s just pulling his leg. He rumbles with laughter and throws his head back. When he finishes his laugh, he looks at me with a smile.

“She has your smart-ass sense of humor. I like her.” He then turns on his heels. “I bought that box for my sons to enjoy with their friends. If you don’t get them out of those cuffs in the next five seconds, I’m going to have all your jobs, and you’ll never work within the next three states bordering any side of Texas.”

The asshole who started all this rushes to uncuff me first. I tug away from him. “Get hers off first. She should’ve never had them on,” I snarl.

He pulls a face but goes to uncuff Maribel as he mutters under his breath. One of the others comes to uncuff me. I rub my wrists as I move over to Maribel.

“Hey, you okay?”

“Yeah, I’m fine,” she says.

“This isn’t over. I’ll deal with the stadium later. Let’s go get something to eat.

“You can tell me why you like hanging with this guy instead of spending Christmas with your family,” Dad says.

I stiffen. The last thing I want is for her to feel pressured into talking about her situation. However, in true Maribel fashion, she surprises me and makes my dad laugh again.

“I only hang with guys willing to fight for me. Your son is hot and he can throw hands, so I’m giving him my time this year. He was lonely and a little desperate for a friend.

“In the spirit of Christmas, I took pity on him. I mean, look at him,” she replies.

“Whatever, Rocky,” I chuckle.

She winks at me. “I told you I got hands.”

“That you did, darlin’.”

Kayleen

I should be having fun with my friends, but I’ve been sulking in the corner by myself. This party would be more fun if Cam were here. However, he’s not speaking to me.

We haven’t spoken since the afternoon when he threw me out. I learned from my mama that Caleb did, in fact, have a seizure, so I can’t blame Cam for not speaking to me. Once again, I fucked up.

When I saw we weren’t going to make it through to the resort the next morning, I knew it was only going to get worse. I texted Cam to see if he wanted to spend Christmas Eve together since our families were out of our reach, but he didn’t bother answering me back.

“Why the long face? Santa didn’t bring you what you wanted?”

I look up into the pretty honey-brown eyes of JR. He has his curls pulled back off his face, showing off his clean edges. He smiles down at me and his entire face lights up with it.

He has such a beautiful smile. Flashes of him smiling up at me as I rode his dick fill my head. I clear my throat as if that will clear my mind.

“I wouldn’t know what Santa brought me. All my gifts are at a resort I never made it to,” I reply.

“Wow, that’s messed up.”

“It’s my own fault. I ruined everyone’s Christmas this year.”

“Really? Come on, you sure you’re not being too hard on yourself?” He sits next to me and bumps me with his shoulder.

“Nope, not at all. It was me. I did it. I meant well, but my actions were selfish.”

“Is that why you’re over here all by yourself? Cam didn’t come out with you tonight?”

“He had tickets to a basketball game. I’m sure that’s where he is. Or maybe not. I don’t know if he still went alone. Caleb couldn’t go with him.”

“He didn’t want to take you instead?”

“I told him I didn’t want to go when he first got the tickets. I don’t mind cheering at a game, but I’m not big on sitting in a box to watch one.”

“Are you going to feel that way about watching me play one day?”

I groan. “Please don’t ask me to come. I’m already trying to put on a brave face to go to Cam and Cal’s baseball games and they’re not even in the majors yet.”

“Does Cam know how much you hate going to games?”

I laugh. “God no, are you kidding me. I’m never going to tell him either.”

“Well, I guess asking you to come out to Louisiana to see me play is out.”

“Why would you want that? I barely answer your calls. Aren’t you tired of trying with me?”

He leans into my ear. “Kayleen, I still think about you sucking my dick before you hopped back on it to ride me. That night was amazing. When I think of you, I can still feel you around me.

“No, I’m not tired of trying. One of these days you’re going to look up and see you have all you want right here. When that day comes, I’ll be waiting.”

I bite my lip as I look into his eyes. I won’t lie and say I haven’t thought about that night. I spent a lot of time thinking about it before Cam and I got back together. The guilt just wouldn’t allow my mind to linger.

“This is wrong. You and Cam are friends. We can’t hook up again,” I breathe.

“Your lips are saying one thing while your eyes are saying another. Cam is a friend. If I didn’t feel so strongly about you, I would back off.

“However, I know we’re meant to be together more than you and Cam are. You guys have this thing between you because you grew up together. It’s a friendship, I respect that, but what you and I have is something more.”

“What makes you so sure of that?”

He leans in and takes my lips. Butterflies take off in my belly. I should pull away, but I don’t. Instead, I open my mouth for his tongue to enter.

He groans and cups my face. It does feel different, which makes me confused. How can I love someone but want to sleep with someone else?

“Stop thinking so much, Kay. Go with your feelings. What do you want?” he says against my lips.

“Can we go to your place like last time?”

“Did you drive?”

“No, I came with Marsha.”

“Let’s go.”

I bite my lip and think it over for a bit. Cam has the next four years to do whatever he wants. This can be my secret.

“Okay.”

Cameron

“I like her, Cam. I really like her,” Daddy says once I get back into the car from dropping Maribel home after dinner.

Daddy pulled some strings and got us a table at one of his friend’s exclusive restaurants. I wasn’t expecting that, with it being Christmas and all. Sometimes I forget that people find it hard to say no to Kyle Perry.

“I like her too, but we’ll never be more than friends. We both have complicated situations.”

“Nothing is too complicated for love. I want to see you happy, Cameron. You give so much of yourself for others. I need you to remember to take your turn for you.”

“I have time to figure all that out.”

“Do you? Time is something we take for granted. Life has a way of snatching the time we think we have from us.”

“I hear you.”

“I hope so, son. I hope so.” He gets silent and I think that’s the end of it, but he turns in his seat and looks at me. “If you like that girl, don’t let your mama find out about her.

“Kayleen is a beautiful girl. I love her like one of my own. I might not like some of her latest decisions or how she thinks we’ll buy her out of her poor decisions, but she’s a good girl.”

He pauses to point out of the window. “However, that young lady right there will give you love and peace. She’ll keep that smile on your face. You mark my words on that one.

“Keep your mama away from that one until she’s good and yours. Jemma has this vision for your life that lives in her head. I only want that for you if that’s what you want for yourself, but your mama … You know your mama,” he grunts.

“I hear you, Daddy.”
