Chapter 45
CHAPTER 45
H ey Baby
Cameron
“That’s it?” I ask after Kay and I sign the divorce papers.
I look at my dad hopefully as I wait for his attorney to answer. I don’t realize I’ve been holding my breath until he finally answers. It also dawns on me that Kay has a death grip on my hand.
“Yes, that will be all. I’ll get these into the judge and have him finalize the divorce immediately. It’s good to have friends in high places,” the attorney chuckles as he looks at my dad and smiles.
“See you on the course, Eric?”
“Sure thing, Kyle. I’m glad I could get this all taken care of for you. Your check will be delivered as soon as the paperwork is final, little lady. Looks like it couldn’t be soon enough,” Mr. Birmingham says to Kay as he looks down at her huge belly.
Bug is due any day now. I get the feeling I won’t be around for her birth, but her daddy is getting stronger, and he’ll be around. As long as I’m there for my firstborn’s, I’m okay with that.
I stand and shake Mr. Birmingham’s hand. My daddy tugs me into a hug and holds me tight. I can’t thank him enough for all he’s done for me and Maribel.
“This part is over. You go get our family. Let me deal with your mama. Your happiness comes first,” my dad whispers in my ear.
Our mamas ain’t too happy about the divorce. I can tell my mama is going to be a problem. She’s been calling every day since Kay was released from the hospital, asking why Kay thought I wanted a divorce.
She lost her shit when I told her it’s because I do. We both do. Kay didn’t object to moving the timeline up.
We sat and had a long talk. I finally told her everything and she took it surprisingly well. I actually think she was relieved to know I’m in love with someone else too.
She’s ready to move on with her life as much as I am. Too bad my mama isn’t listening when we tell her that. She’s convinced the marriage can be saved.
“Thanks, I’ll see you when I get back,” I say and give my dad one more hug.
Kay touches my arm, and I turn to her. She has tears in her eyes, but she’s smiling. I pull her into a hug and kiss the top of her head.
“I’m happy that you’re happy, Cam. You’re going to make such a good father and husband. I guess she wasn’t joking that day. You were her future husband.
“I was so jealous of her because deep in my heart her words rang true. I knew it and knew I was going to lose you to her, but I hope I never lose your friendship.
“Maybe someday you’ll come back to Texas and our little ones can grow up together. If you have boys, I promise not to force Bug on one of them,” she chuckles.
I laugh and give her a squeeze. I have no doubt Kay will always be a part of my life. It may not be the part we were told all our lives she would be, but we’ll still be friends.
“Uncle Cam will be around for his Ladybug. Her daddy ain’t shit on a baseball field, she’s going to need me for all her softball games,” I tease.
“Go on, get out of here. It’s time you finally get to live your life the way you want it. I’m so proud of you, Cameron Perry.
“Maribel is one lucky woman. One thing she should never question is how much you love her. I’m glad you didn’t tell me why we were getting married.
“I would have been so jealous and probably wouldn’t have done it. I’m glad I did though. Being married to you gave me my friend back. Thanks for taking such good care of us.”
I look into Kay’s eyes, feeling a little choked up. It was good to restore our friendship. She looks happier too.
I can see how much she and Jareil love each other. I’m happy for them. When he fully recovers, they’re going to be able to start their lives together.
“Take care of my girl. I want to meet her as soon as I come home to Texas.”
“We’ll be waiting. Now go on and get. I’ll help hold your mama off.” She gives a teary smile.
I gave her hand one last squeeze before I turn for my duffel bag and leave. I have business to handle. There’s somewhere I need to be.
Maribel
“I will be sad to see you go,” Sim says as she sits with me in my room while I fold little baby clothes.
“I’m going to miss you too. We’ll talk on the phone whenever you want. I’ll have to bring the babies to see you too when they get big enough.”
“I would like that. I want to see your baseball player play in a live game. I think I might enjoy that.”
“I’ll be sure to get you tickets. I can’t wait to go to my first major league game to see him play.”
“If you ever need my help again, you are to call me. You don’t need to go through Ximena. You are my friend. You call me directly.”
I smile. Symphony is a complex person, but she grows on you. I feel bad for her. I want her to be happy. This place is starting to feel like it might be her very own gilded prison.
“It’s finally over,” I breathe in disbelief.
I can’t believe all of this has come to an end. Dez is rotting behind bars for attempted murder. The lawyer said he can get up to twenty years for what he did to Jareil.
The cops caught him red-handed because of the investigators who Cam and Mr. Kyle had following him. They called the cops when the kidnappers nabbed Jareil.
Then they followed them to the rooftop where he was shot. Thank God they did. They saved his life. Dez would have killed him if the cops hadn’t arrived, or he would have bled out from the gunshot wound.
I’ve wanted to go home since they confirmed Dez wouldn’t be getting out anytime soon. However, I’m too pregnant and Cam is playing for his new team.
I’ll have to stay here just a bit longer. The one saving grace has been being able to be distracted with shopping for the babies. I was finally able to have a long conversation with my father’s attorney.
My dad left everything in my name—his cars, his houses, his money. I don’t have to worry about finances ever again. In fact, me and the babies are set for life.
“ Ay dios mío , look at you.”
I snap toward the familiar voice as a gasp leaves my lips. Sim’s butler is ushering my mom into the room. My lips are trembling as I rush forward into her embrace.
“What are you doing here? How?”
“I received a call that I’m going to be a grandmother. Then this handsome young man showed up on my doorstep to introduce himself and ask if I was okay with him marrying my little girl. Look at you, you look so beautiful,” she replies as she cups my face in her hands.
“Wait, you met Cam?”
“She sure did. I had to get her permission to take your hand before I came to get you.”
I close my eyes as the Texan drawl washes over me. I nearly collapse as I open them and find Cam leaning in the doorway. My mom grabs my arm and holds me up. Cam is in motion before I can steady myself.
He tugs me into his big, strong arms and kisses me senseless as tears spill from my eyes. Stupid pregnancy hormones. I cling to him as if he might disappear.
“Hey, baby. It’s good to see you too,” he breathes against my lips.
I gasp as I feel two strong kicks in my womb. They must know their daddy is here. Cam places his hand on my belly and there’s another kick.
He laughs and gives me the biggest smile. “That had to hurt. You okay?”
“Yeah, I’m perfect. I’m used to the abuse.”
“They don’t mean it. Consider them love taps.”
“You carry these boxers and then say that.” I pull a face at him right as they start kicking and moving again.
Cam reaches up and fingers a lock of my fading auburn hair. I can’t wait to have someone fix it back to my natural color. I want to wash away all traces of what happened with Dez.
“You’re gorgeous. I never want to be away from you this long ever again.”
“The feeling is mutual.”
He places his forehead to mine and begins to sway us to a rhythm of our own. We are completely lost in each other as we stand here.
“Hello, I am Symphony. Everyone calls me Sim. Come with me, I will show you to your room.
“I think Maribel and her baseball player are going to be occupied for a while. I can keep you company. It is almost my practice hour. If you like classical music, you can listen to me play. ?Preferirías que hable espanol? ” I hear Sim say to my mom.
“I would love to listen to you play. English is just fine. It’s very nice to meet you, Sim,” my mother replies.
I can’t pull my attention away from Cam. He takes my lips in another searing kiss. This time, he allows his big hands to roam my back and glide down to squeeze my ass.
“Cam,” I moan into his mouth.
“I need you.”
I whimper and nod. He lifts me effortlessly, huge belly and all, and walks me over to the bed. I push all the baby clothes I had been folding to the floor. I’ll just have to rewash them later.
I can’t get enough of his hungry kisses. He devours me like he’ll never get to kiss me again. I arch my back and moan as he starts a trail of kisses down my neck.
Needing his touch more than ever, I reach for the hem of my shirt and tug it off. Cam groans deeply and cups my breasts as he kisses the tops of them.
I marvel at how my breasts have gotten huge with the pregnancy, but they seem so small in his massive palms. It’s like his touch and kisses shoot sparks through me. My skin is humming from his attention.
Reaching behind me, he releases my bra and gently pulls it from my shoulders. He seems too far away when he moves to peel my leggings off my legs.
My face heats with embarrassment as my big-ass panties and unkept bush beneath them are exposed. I didn’t know he was coming. I would have tried to do something.
“Cam, wait,” I squeal when he drops to his knees, ready to bury his face between my thighs.
He looks at me in confusion. His eyes filled with so much lust. I prop up on my elbow to try to see down my body.
“I … I haven’t been able to see down there in months. I haven’t shaved in I don’t know how long. It’s probably wild down there. Maybe we should switch.
“I can do you and we’ll just wait until I figure things out for you to go down on me. Please,” I plea and bite my lip.
Cam snorts at me and looks down as he licks his lips. Lifting his gaze back to mine, he gives me that sexy smile of his. His dimples pop and my heart skips a beat.
“I’m going to eat you up now and shave it for you later. I’m starving for you, baby. Nothing is going to stop me from feasting on your body. Nothing.”
With that, he disappears behind my belly before I can speak another word. I cry out and fall back against the bed. All I can do not to scream is grasp a tight hold of the sheets and stare up at the ceiling.
“Oh my God, Cam. Fuck,” I whimper when I can’t hold it in any longer.
