“ R ayna, thank you for doing this.” I greeted the woman as she appeared next to me on Jackie’s porch.

“Of course. It makes sense that you would want me to meet them.” She referred to my friends.

“Yeah. They convinced me to work with them on some things, and since you’ve agreed to help me continue developing my abilities.” I nodded. “I figured your paths would cross at some point, so we might as well just do it now.”

“Works for me. Besides, it gave me a reason to pop back to Earth.”

“Missed it here?”

“I didn’t think I would, but sometimes I do.”

“Glad you could come back. Jackie is excited, but Lena is a little more hesitant than I thought she would be. You’d think she’d want to study you for her next book. The way you met Metice sounds a lot like what happened in her last novel.”

“It does?” she chuckled. “Hard to imagine that.”

“Yes, they’re turning it into a movie now!” I boasted about my friend as I reached for the doorknob and glanced back at Rayna, who had a frown on her face.

“Oh?” The woman looked like she was trying to solve a quadratic equation.

“You might have read it. I remember you said you were a big book nerd.” Just then, I pushed the door open. As I spoke the title of the book, Lena came into view and Rayna’s voice echoed my own.

“To Conjure Love.” Rayna gasped, then pointed her finger at Lena and shouted, “You!”

“Me?” Lena’s startled eyes turned to me. “What did I do? Is this Rayna?”

“Why the hell would you put that spell in a book?” Rayna went on. “Do you know how dangerous that is? Do you know what happened to me?”

“Wait, that’s how you summoned Metice?” I asked.

“Hold up, summoned?” Jackie popped into the room with a drink in her hand. “What’s going on?”

“I read that spell from your book and ended up being dragged to hell a few days later!” Rayna continued her rant. “Come to find out you’re an actual witch! How could you be so careless with your magic?”

“I changed the spell!” Lena fussed. “And I didn’t think anyone would be dumb enough to try it.”

“Who are you calling dumb?”

“I think that would be you.” Jackie snorted.

“Hold on!” I jumped in between the three of them. “Everyone, please calm down. So what? Lena put a working spell in her book without considering how far dedicated readers might go. Rayna, things worked out well for you, right?”

A heavy sigh escaped Rayna's lips. “If you want to oversimplify things, yeah, they did.”

“Okay, so there’s no problem, right?”

Rayna took several deep breaths and launched another judgmental finger point at Lena. “You need to be a lot more careful with your work.”

“I told her someone was going to try to conjure them a damn man. Look at what we have to work with. The dating pool is full of piss! It was bound to happen!” Jackie sipped her drink, then raised a brow at Rayna. “Wait, the spelled summoned a demon for you, right? What’s that like? I heard demons are a lot of fun.”

“Who told you that?” Lena asked.

“Hey, you’re not the only witchy babe I know!” Jackie cackled. “One told me about a demon with two dicks! I’d like to meet him.”

“My demon only has one dick,” Rayna’s expression turned devious. “But it rotates!”

“What?” Jackie cackled. “And you’re yelling at her, girl, you owe her a damn gift basket!”

After a heavy pause, we all fell out laughing, and Rayna nodded at Lena. “Actually, hell yeah! Thanks. But don’t do that again!”
