Letter for Max
My darling Max,
I hope you never have to read this letter. But your dad gets so worried every time I go abroad that I promised to leave you a note in the event that I don’t return.
So, if you’re reading this, sorry for dying. I definitely didn’t plan on doing that, at least not yet, but as I’ve come to learn in my line of work, sometimes these things can’t be avoided.
Promise me you’ll look after your dad. I imagine he’ll only worry about you more now that I’m not around, but don’t forget that he needs looking after too. Listen to his advice, but ignore him if he tells you not to eat deep-fried doughnuts. That is never a mistake.
The only other thing I ask is that you enjoy your life.
Don’t let living on an island blind you to the fact that there’s a whole world out there full of people, every one of them with hopes and dreams and a story to tell.
Other people are the only thing that can bring you true happiness. Never forget that.
Apart from that, there’s nothing I can tell you. None of your problems are that serious, trust me.
You’ve got this.
I love you,
Mum
