Chapter 44
Three months later
“I have a bone to pick with you.” Looking up from my laptop, I see Abigail perched on the edge of it as she levels a look at me.
“With me? What have I done?”
“It’s more like what you haven’t done. I believe you made me a promise and yet there’s still no sight of you fulfilling that promise.”
“What promise?” Things have been chaotic since Cole’s death and Peter’s lies came to the surface. Between trying to work out who’s using Peter’s login to continue facilitating the human trafficking ring, getting the Daniel’s deal to run itself and add in the fact I’ve been working to rebuild our numbers after getting rid of the Old Guard and more than half our men, it’s really no surprise I’ve forgotten something.
“You know we’ve been married nearly five months now. And if I remember correctly, you promised me a honeymoon. Which you, dear husband, seem to have forgotten about.” As if. Little does she know I’ve been working towards making sure everything was stable here to get out of here for a few weeks with just her, me and the beach. Thankfully, with the help of Jonathan lending me manpower, things are a hell of a lot more under control now and Alex is all too happy to hold down the fort and look after Teddy and Rocky for us to get the hell out of dodge.
“I plan on changing that,” I tell her before rounding my desk so I can step between her legs and kiss her.
“Hmm, yeah? Fancy telling me when and where we’re going?” she asks as she nips my bottom lip.
“Nope, you’ll find out soon enough.” With that, I pull her up off my desk, deliver a swift spank to her ass and send her on her way.
I pick up my phone to shoot Alex a text to meet me in the garage. After all, what kind of honeymoon would it be without something epic to surprise her with?
“You’re such a big softie, you know that?” Alex looks over at me as we finish our walkthrough of the storefront. I shove his shoulder before turning to the estate agent.
“It’s perfect. Does your seller want a cash sale, or will cheque suffice?” Wide eyes meet mine for a second before the young man starts stuttering out that he needs to ring the seller.
“What can I say, when I want something, I make it happen,” I tell Alex, playing with the box in my pocket. This might have been one of the most expensive trips we’ve been on in a while but the look on Abigail’s face will be worth every penny and more.
“You, indeed, are a softie. But in other news, Brad and Jo reported the shipment went off without a hitch, so it looks like that’s one problem resolved.” He fills me in as he leans against the counter.
“About time things started slotting into place. Keep an ear to the ground in case anything changes but for now let’s class that as a done deal, yeah?” He nods before shifting his gaze to something behind me.
Less than an hour later, I’m a few hundred thousand pounds poorer but with a set of keys and a box burning a hole in my pocket; I’d say it’s a pretty good deal.
