Kenzie

O ne Year Later

Exactly one year ago, Kenzie had entered Little Hearts Club hoping to avoid the man on whose back she currently rode piggyback. So many things had changed in that time, not the least of which was the fact that she and Beau were together again and had both fallen madly in love with each other and with Sebastian.

Kenzie was happier than she could ever remember being. She’d found more confidence in the last year than she ever knew she’d possessed, and it reflected in both her personal and professional lives.

Kenzie now managed Sweet Treats . Annie had promoted her about six months ago, saying it was time for retirement and she couldn’t think of anyone she’d rather run things for her than Kenzie. The new position came with a pay raise, not that she really needed it since her men wouldn’t hear of her helping with bills.

She was an active member of Little Hearts Club again and had made so many new friends over the last year. River was still her bestest best friend, though. That would never change. As she thought their name, Kenzie scanned the room for her friend, finding them watching the door with a smirk on their face that said they knew something no one else knew.

Kenzie started to scramble down off her Daddy’s back, intent on getting the tea, but Daddy firmed his grip and wouldn’t let her go. Kenzie wiggled and squirmed, then tried asking politely to be let down, but all that got her was plucked from Daddy’s back by Papi.

“Hold on, princess,” Papi told her as he set her down on her feet.

“You can go play with your friends in just a second,” Daddy added.

“We just need to discuss something super-fast first,” Papi clarified.

“Okaaaaay.” They’d already gone over all the rules on the way here. What else could they need to discuss?

Even as Kenzie had the thought, her Daddy dropped to one knee and began speaking, “One year ago, I saw you again and it hit me like a ton of bricks that I would never stop loving you.”

Kenzie’s hands trembled as she watched Papi also go to one knee and speak, “One year ago today, I saw you for the first time and knew with certainty that you were meant to be ours.”

Both men reached in their pockets and pulled out ring boxes. Kenzie’s hands flew to her mouth, even as tears streamed from her eyes.

“Will you marry us?” the men said in unison.

Kenzie’s voice wasn’t working so all she could do was nod with all the enthusiasm she couldn’t seem to voice. Papi took her left hand and slit a ring with half an onyx heart surrounded by embedded pink diamonds in a gold band.

Once Papi’s ring was in place, Daddy took her hand and slipped a ring that mirrored Papi’s on her hand except this one had half a white diamond heart. When put together, they formed a ying-yang heart with the interlocking gold bands embedded with pink diamond hearts. It was the most beautiful thing Kenzie had ever seen.

Her men gathered her into their arms and took turns kissing the life out of her as the entire club burst out in cheers and applause. One year ago, her heart had been shattered, but these two men had pieced it back together into something as beautiful and unique as the rings they’d just slipped on her finger. It was amazing what one year and a leap of faith could do for a girl.
