Chapter 26

Los Angeles

December 2024

Travis

“You were right,” Blake Gordon murmured as Cameron climbed out of the pool. “I’m going to keep my eye on this one. Keep pushing him, but I think from now on, he needs to train with my boys as well.”

I smiled. Blake was exactly what Cameron needed, a tough coach who’d trained many Olympic divers, the man to impress if someone wanted to be on the team.

And Cameron wanted to be on that team with every breath in him.

“You’ll still be his coach,” Blake added. “You’ve brought him this far. I wouldn’t take that away from you. And you’ve obviously taught him a lot.” His eyes twinkled. “If any more potential diving medalists catch your eye, let me know.”

“You’ve got it.”

We shook, and Blake went over to talk to a young man who’d walked into the pool area. I grabbed Cameron’s towel and held it out to him.

“Well?”

I laughed. “You did it. He wants you to train with his team.”

Cameron let out a whoop so loud all heads turned in his direction.

“Awesome!”

I ruffled his damp curls. “Now hit the shower, and then I’ll buy you lunch.” My phone vibrated in the pocket of my shorts, and I removed it. I grinned. “It’s Randy.” I clicked on Answer . “Happy Holidays, Mr. Bowman. How’s it hanging?”

Randy’s chuckle filled my ear. “Eight inches off the floor as usual. I’m not disturbing you, am I?”

“You’re good,” I assured him. “Just finishing up a coaching session with Cameron.”

He snickered. “Oh, is that what you’re calling it these days?”

“Is there a point to this call? I’ve got a diver with a rumbling belly to feed.”

“I need to know if you’d be up for a reunion of sorts.”

I listened as he outlined his plan, and my smile morphed into a grin. “Count me in.” I glanced at Cameron. “Do I get to bring a guest again?”

“You mean Cameron? Sure. Okay, I’ve got to go. We’ll talk soon, all right?”

“You know it.” I disconnected, then met Cameron’s inquisitive glance. “Randy’s invited us to spend Spring Break with him.”

Cameron’s face lit up. “Cool. What’s the temperature like in Lake Tahoe around then?”

I smirked. “I don’t think we’ll be spending much time swimming in the lake, put it that way.” I pointed toward the locker room. “Shower. Now.”

He grinned. “Sure thing, Coach.” He walked away from me, and I didn’t miss the way his head turned when a guy strolled toward the diving platform. Their glances of mutual appreciation told me plenty.

I grinned. Cameron had no shortage of guys wanting to warm his sheets.

Then the guy looked at me, his gaze drifting lower for a fraction of a second before he gave me a warm, inviting smile.

I’ve still got it.

And judging by the way he licked his lips, I was going to get it.

I love my life.
