Oliver

Immediately, I took a tiny step back away from the woman, and Killian shot a glance towards me that was half-annoyed and half-hurt.

“Just...hear me out?” he asked, his voice low and urgent. “Meet her. That’s all I’m asking you to do.”

As much as my instincts were screaming at me to protect the pack from this unknown woman—this unknown omega —I couldn’t find it in me to deny the sliver of hope in Killian’s eyes. I knew that this was something that he had hoped for, prayed for, despite how rare omegas were. There was every chance we would never be picked by an omega, period , let alone find a scent-match—a mate.

The glitter in Killian’s green eyes said that he thought he had found exactly that, though, and I couldn’t break his heart. I couldn’t...not after everything we’d been through as a pack.

I turned to face the woman, sighing and forcing my entire body to relax, shoving down my wolf so my shift wasn’t flickering at the edges of my consciousness. I couldn’t deny that she smelled fucking amazing . Even the tiny hit of her scent I had gotten from Killian’s clothes and skin was enough to make my head spin, and my instincts roared even louder as I approached the woman and stretched out my hand to shake hers.

“Hi. Sorry about this. I’m Oliver. That’s Emmett, and you’ve already met Killian.” I offered her a stiff smile, relieved when she relaxed a little and reached out to shake my hand as well. Her grip was firm despite her small stature, and I looked her up and down as she held my hand steady.

Her dark hair was long and loose around her shoulders, and she wore a tiny little black slip of a dress, which hugged her curves and shoved her breasts up until they were practically spilling out over the top. The hem of the dress barely brushed the tops of her thighs, and if I were behind her, her bending over even a few inches would have bared her panties to me...

If she were wearing any.

The thought made my mouth dry up, especially when I leaned close and got an unadulterated hit of her scent—vanilla and tart and fucking mouthwatering .

I couldn’t stop the low rumble of a growl that escaped me—surprising the shit out of me—and I leaned closer, breathing her in. I gripped her hand tighter, and to her credit, she didn’t flinch away from me. She looked up at me with warm brown eyes that flashed silver at me, signaling her wolf’s submission, and my eyes fluttered a little as her scent wormed its way deeper into my nose.

I felt her hand twitch in mine, and her entire body stiffened a little as her nostrils flared, too. Her pupils expanded, and her lips—swollen and red and kiss-bitten—parted as she let out a tiny little whimper.

She likes your scent, too.

My cock twitched, starting to fill, and that, more than anything, jolted me out of my haze. I swayed back, breaking our handshake and letting out a gruff sound as one of my bare feet slid on the carpet, nearly knocking me on my ass. I barely managed to save myself, and when I glanced over my shoulder, Killian was grinning like a lunatic, looking between me and the girl with a wholly satisfied expression on his face.

“You, um...don’t need to be sorry.” The girl’s voice was low and even huskier than it had been when she spoke before, and when I turned my attention back to her, she was shuffling back and forth on her feet, looking a little sheepish despite the flush in her cheeks and the shine of arousal in her eyes. “I’m Lilah. Killian and I just met at...um...”

“The club. Fracture,” Killian supplied.

“Right.” She nodded a little dazedly and clasped her hands together in front of her. “We met at Fracture, and...um.” Her color deepened, making my instincts roar as the distinct tang of arousal colored her scent. At my side, Emmett let out another low, possessive growl, and her eyes flicked over to him, just for a second, before they returned to my face. “Killian said that I needed to come here to meet you? Insisted, really.”

I sighed and forced myself to take a big step back, creating space between myself and this omega despite my every instinct begging me to do the exact opposite. My wolf growled in my mind, anxious to pin Lilah’s wolf to the ground and win her submission, fair and square.

“That sounds right,” I said. I ran my hand through my hair, undoubtedly mussing it, and glanced at Emmett. He was staring at the omega, his expression hungrier than I had ever seen it, and I knew that I needed to de-escalate this situation immediately.

“Why don’t we go into the kitchen?” I suggested, taking another step away. The air was a little clearer a few feet away from the omega, allowing me to make decisions quickly. “Clearly, we need to sit down and have a conversation. All of us.”

I fixed Killian with a glare that didn’t deter the smug smile on his face even a little, then turned on my heel and walked out of the room. I walked right past the dining table and made my way into the kitchen, pulling out the kettle and swallowing hard as I filled it and set it on the stove to start boiling.

I heard Killian and Emmett talking in low voices—Killian more than Emmett, as per usual— and the feminine ring of Lilah’s voice as she responded in the other room. Then, there was the scrape of the dining chairs against the tile as the three of them, presumably, settled at the table to wait for me. It was familiar; when we needed to discuss things as a pack, this was generally how we did it.

But we had never discussed an omega before, not after everything that happened with Jack. Even getting registered with the state had been a choice we’d made mostly to appease Killian, and here he was, bringing one home with him and declaring that she was our scent-match, our mate .

My cock throbbed in my pants, and I reached down to adjust it so that it was lying a little more comfortably against my leg, gritting my teeth when my fingers brushed up against the beginning swell of my knot. That made me pause, too; my knot had only swollen a few times before in my life, and never when I wasn’t actively having sex.

The fact that my body was reacting so readily to the scent of this omega meant she was dangerous.

Or it means that Killian is right, and she’s your scent-match. He’s impulsive, but he’s not stupid. He had to have brought her home for a reason.

I ignored the voice of “reason” inside of my head. There was no way—it was too unlikely.

We were all going to sit down and discuss why Killian had brought her home. I was going to apologize profusely to this poor woman who he’d essentially kidnapped, and then I was going to order her an Uber and send her on her way so that she could return to her life, and we could go back to ours. It was the only thing to do.

We’d known that finding an omega would be a long stretch back when our pack was whole, and now...well, it was even less likely. I wasn’t even sure if bonding with an omega was something I wanted , let alone if it was what was best for the pack.

Fuck . I couldn’t think about that right now. I had a pack to wrangle and a woman to apologize to.

The kettle on the stove whistled, and secure in my course of action, I grabbed the box of tea from its shelf and poured boiling water into four mugs. The familiar process calmed me even more than having a plan did, and I set them on a tray before carrying everything into the dining room.

When I walked in, Lilah was sitting at the head of the table, with Killian and Emmett sitting on either side of her. Emmett was a respectful distance away, still staring at Lilah like she was an oasis in the desert. On the other hand, Killian was pressed right up against her, as close as he could possibly be without her sitting directly in his lap. My instincts hummed in satisfaction at seeing the two of them together like that, and I scowled, setting the tray of mugs down a little harder than necessary.

“I didn’t know how you like your tea, Lilah,” I said gruffly. I opened the box and retrieved chamomile tea for Emmett and myself and lemon tea for Killian, then looked up at Lilah expectantly.

She was looking at me with her brow furrowed, and after a moment, she shook her head. “Pick one for me?”

My cock throbbed , and I stifled a groan as I nodded my head in a short jerk and pulled out another bag of chamomile for her as well.

Calm the fuck down. She is not yours. She is not . She can’t be. It would be fucking wrong.

Once the tea was done steeping, I carried the cups over and sat next to Emmett. I lifted my cup and took a burning sip. Ordinarily, I waited for tea to cool a little before I drank it, but this time, I wanted the scalding sensation. It helped to clear my head of the mixture of arousal and confusion that flooded me every time I looked at Lilah.

I cleared my throat as I set down the cup and focused on the woman in question. “What happened tonight, Lilah?”

My voice was harsher than I wanted it to be, and Lilah flinched a little, her hands tightening on her cup. Killian immediately reached for her, putting his hand on top of her knee—I presumed—under the table, and she relaxed a little before she let out a shaky breath.

“I just turned twenty-one today,” she explained. Killian looked a little surprised at her admission, which made me want to sigh in exasperation all over again. Hadn’t he asked her even the simplest details about herself?

“I...” Her voice trembled a little, and her throat bobbed with a swallow before she continued. “I presented as an omega. It was an enormous surprise, of course, so my friend Eddie and I decided to go out and celebrate.”

Three identical growls ripped from myself and my packmates at the mention of the male name, and Lilah looked between the three of us for a moment, her brow furrowed in confusion.

After a second, though, her face relaxed, and she offered each of us a small, sweet smile in turn. “Eddie is a woman—Edina. We’ve known each other for years,” she said. There was a hint of amusement in her voice, and I hated myself for how I relaxed at the knowledge that she hadn’t been out with a man when Killian had stumbled on her.

“Anyway,” she continued. “I wasn’t drinking—I wanted to have fun, but I’m not stupid. I went onto the floor to dance and lost Eddie somewhere in the crowd. I...” Her cheeks pinked slightly, and her sweet scent soured a little—was she embarrassed? “I knew it was probably a little stupid to be surrounded by alphas when my scent was coming on, and I was getting ready to go find Eddie when...”

She glanced at Killian, and I guessed what had happened. He had seen a beautiful woman and gone to dance with her, and then her scent had hit him like a freight train.

“And then?” I prompted.

Lilah’s color deepened, and she looked at Killian, her knuckles whiting as her expression softened a little. A glint entered her pretty eyes, and a smirk spread across Killian’s face. His forearm flexed slightly, and his voice was low and husky when he spoke to her. “Go on, baby girl. Tell Ollie what happened.”

Baby girl?

They had known each other all of an hour, and he already had a pet name for her?

This could be bad. This was bad. I had never seen Killian get so attached to a woman so quickly.

I swallowed, and Lilah’s cheeks flushed further as she turned her attention back to me. Her scent bloomed, and I swallowed hard against the growl that wanted to escape as it reached me. Her scent was deeper and richer than it had been before, warm with arousal, and my cock twitched, begging for me to touch it—for her to touch it. With her hands, those pretty tits of hers, those gorgeous lips...

God, no . We couldn’t do this. We couldn’t .

“We...ah, fooled around a little bit,” Lilah continued in a whisper, pulling me out of my increasingly anxious and aroused thoughts. “Um. Killian said that he wanted me to meet you. That it was important. So...here I am.”

She lifted her cup and took a sip, and I sat back in my chair as I worked through her story again. It was simple—too simple. There had to be something that she was leaving out. Why on Earth would she willingly agree to come to a strange place with an alpha she had never met before, especially if she was as new of an omega as she claimed?

“Happy birthday,” Emmett blurted out, breaking the heavy silence.

I looked over at my normally stoic packmate, surprised that he had spoken up at all. He looked dazed, his cheeks flushed as Lilah looked at him.

She smiled and patted him on the back of his hand. “Thank you. I don’t really celebrate my birthday, so today was...nice.”

“Are you sure that’s all that happened?” I managed, my voice tight.

Lilah’s brow furrowed. “What else would have happened?” she asked, confused.

Killian flashed me a smirk, then lifted one hand to cup Lilah’s chin, pulling her attention to him. “What do I smell like to you, Lilah?” he asked.

Her eyes widened a little, and Emmett and I both leaned closer as her tongue, pink and wet, darted out along her lower lip. Her scent was heavy in the air, making it impossible to look away.

Killian’s eyes lowered to her mouth for a second before he focused on her eyes again, seemingly determined to make his point clear.

“I...don’t know,” Lilah whispered.

Killian shook his head and pressed a little closer, looming over her as his eyes flashed gold. “Don’t lie, baby girl,” he growled. His grip tightened on her chin a little, but not enough to hurt her. I was sure of that; I was watching like a hawk.

She let out a tiny whimper, and Emmett rumbled again low in his throat at the sound. Killian didn’t let her turn away from him, though. He lowered his face so that his lips brushed over hers before whispering, “What do you smell?”

Lilah let out another needy sound and then said, “You smell like you’re fucking mine .”

Emmett’s growl couldn’t be ignored this time. In a flash, he was on his feet, and then his hands were around Lilah’s neck, cupping either side as he lowered his face to bury it in her neck. Lilah let out a soft gasp, then moaned when Killian pressed his lips against hers in a desperate kiss.

Emmett stroked her neck, pressing his lips to her shoulder, and I watched—helpless and painfully aroused—as Emmett’s teeth flashed out.

Then, he sank them into her shoulder.
